Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 499: Chapter 473: Twins from the Same Milk

Home is where one feels comfortable.

Qian was sipping the heartwarming soup her mom made and watching her mom’s daily routine of scolding her late-returning brother. It gave her a sense of security.

”You little scoundrel! Why didn’t you come home after school? Where did you wander off to? You still know how to come back!” Jia Xiufang kicked her son’s backside as Chen Zilong dodged and tried to explain.

”The teacher kept us late, Sis, you’re back! Help me! Mom’s having a menopausal fit and hitting her obedient son again!”

”A tree that doesn’t get trimmed won’t grow straight. Long, Mom’s doing it for your own good.” Qian replied gently, while adjusting her glasses with a slightly mischievous gesture.

It had been a while since she watched this scene, it really felt like home.

Warm soup, a nagging mom, a mischievous brother, home was truly wonderful.

”Learn from your sister! When will you become sensible? Roaming all over instead of coming home after school, are you hanging out with those idle, bad kids from outside again?”

”No, Mom, really, I just played at the arcade for a while after school. I went alone, didn’t go with anyone—ah!”

Chen Zilong screamed as Jia Xiufang took off her slipper and hit his shoulder.

”I’ll teach you to behave! Going to the arcade! You got money now, huh? Feeling bold, huh?!”

”I won’t go again, Sis, sis, save me!” Chen Zilong tried to hide behind Qian, but Jia Xiufang yelled angrily.

”Stay there! I’m only going to hit you a few times. If you dare to run, I’ll switch to the feather duster and beat you to death!”

Chen Zilong didn’t dare run, obediently letting Mom vent.

Qian drank half a bowl of soup, feeling warm inside, then put down the bowl and spoke earnestly.

”Long, don’t blame Mom. She was just threatened with a knife to her neck, scared out of her wits. As the only man in the house, if you don’t come back, Mom gets the fright of her life.”

”Isn’t that right? The knife was right here on my neck, gosh, scared me to death~” Thinking about it still made Jia Xiufang tremble with fear, almost went to meet the Lord.

”What happened? Mom, tell me! Are you okay? Did you get hurt?” Chen Zilong’s cheeky smile disappeared, replaced by a tense and serious look.

”Consider yourself a little scoundrel with a hint of filial duty, caring about your mom. I’m fine, thanks to your sister, here’s what happened...”

Jia Xiufang eagerly recounted the events, shocking Chen Zilong enough to reach out and touch Jia Xiufang’s neck, discovering nothing but chubby double chins, finally relieved.

Sitting there pale, took him a while to recover, ”Mom, you’re so bold, if Sis told you to run, wouldn’t it be fine? Sis, your skills at handling the situation have improved, saving middle-aged women in distress effortlessly!”

”Expecting you to achieve anything is hopeless!” Jia Xiufang complained about her son.

Chen Zilong pondered for a moment, stood, and headed outside.

”Where are you going?” Jia Xiufang asked.

”I’m going to find that bookworm next door—ah, Sis, I didn’t mean you!” Chen Zilong narrowly dodged the chopsticks Qian threw at him.

How could he forget that there was a ”bookworm” at home too?

”I meant Liao Yunchang! Mom usually gets along with him well, how did he cause such trouble?”

”Get back here! Don’t make a fool of yourself! This isn’t his fault. If you stir up trouble, how will Mom get along in the neighborhood?” Qian reprimanded the youthful troublemaker.

Though she didn’t like Liao Fugui, this wasn’t on him.

While Qian was scolding and teaching her brother, the doorbell rang, Jia Xiufang went to answer it.

A middle-aged man who resembled Liao Fugui stood outside, with glasses thicker than bottle bottoms, just older, with more wrinkles, yet one could see he was handsome in his youth. He reached out to Jia Xiufang, apologetically saying.

”Oh sister, sorry to trouble you. I just got off work and heard about this, must have scared you?”

”I’m fine, you’re too kind, I wasn’t hurt.”

Liao Fugui stood by his father, holding two boxes of milk bought from the downstairs supermarket to comfort Jia Xiufang.

Jia Xiufang wanted to invite them in, but Mr. Liao declined, seeing the dining table in the living room, realizing they were having a meal, didn’t want to interrupt, and kept apologizing at the door.

Chen Zilong whispered to Qian, ”Sis, do you think this old man has taken a liking to Mom? Always showing attention. Yesterday he even brought a watermelon over, said he couldn’t finish it, watermelons are so expensive now, yet he gave it away, I think he has an ulterior motive.”

”That can’t be?” Qian took another look, oh wow, these two middle-aged people did seem quite engrossed in conversation, her eyes accidentally catching sight of Liao Fugui by his father’s side.

Her mouth twitched, she really didn’t want such a brother.

So she whispered in her brother’s ear.

”Long, when you have nothing to do, you should...”

Better keep Mr. Liao away from her mom, who still kept a graceful demeanor and wasn’t short of suitors despite being a bit chubby and loquacious, among middle-aged women, she still had some charm, otherwise how could she have given birth to such a beauty like Qian?

Liao Fugui watched Qian interacting with Chen Zilong, her eyes sparkled mischievously, seemingly plotting some prank, and when Chen Zilong asked her something, she playfully tapped him on the head.

Like a mischievous big sister, contrasting with the super professional psychologist image she had earlier.

After Jia Xiufang finished chatting with Mr. Liao, after a round of pleasantries and pushing back and forth, Mr. Liao finally managed to hand over the items to Jia Xiufang and left with Liao Fugui. The house became quiet again.

”Look at Uncle Liao, so polite, really, bringing stuff like that, even though I wasn’t scared—why wasn’t it walnut milk?”

Qian wanted to laugh, her mom from the beginning had wanted those things, just had to play coy for a bit.

The family finally settled down to eat, Jia Xiufang as the current head of the household had a few words to say about today’s incident.

”Qian, Long, today’s event came and went without danger, did you learn anything?”

Chen Zilong, holding chopsticks, thought for a moment, ”Mom, you like walnut milk, I’ll find a place to swap a box tomorrow.”

Jia Xiufang hit his head with chopsticks in frustration, ”All you think about is food! What I meant is, this incident made me see clearly, in times of war, brothers fight together, families stick together, the bond between siblings surpasses all, you two should support each other, if anyone faces difficulty, the other must step up. Those siblings there, running around for each other, how touching!”

”Pfft!” Qian nearly spat her soup.

Jia Xiufang, you’ve missed the point, haven’t you?
