Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 483: Chapter 457: On the Verge of Uncovering the Truth

”What did you say? Your brother’s fiancée is a woman with a very bad temper?” Qian keenly picked up on the keywords.

Liu Li nodded, ”Yeah, that’s what Zeng said, and my brother mentioned it when he called me before. He said she had a bad temper and warned me not to provoke her if I ever met her.”

But unfortunately, before meeting her, his brother encountered an accident, and there were no more updates on that woman afterward.

If not for Zheng Xu’s authoritative investigation, Qian would have suspected that Liu Li and the Hu Meijing mentioned by Salamander might not be the same person she interacted with.

The information obtained from Liu Li made Qian feel something; she didn’t linger. She found an excuse to bid farewell to Liu Li and headed straight to Hu Meijing’s kindergarten.

The timing was perfect as the children were having their nap. Qian explained her purpose and soon met Hu MeiJing.

”Am I disturbing you?”

”Not at all, I just happen to have some free time. Mr Chen, why did you suddenly come by? Has Chu Xuan’s condition worsened?” Hu Meijing’s hair was tied with a colorful handkerchief, her long braid hanging down, giving her a particularly gentle appearance.

”No, it’s just that I happened to pass by here, thought of you working here, and decided to drop by. Actually, I have a favor to ask.”

”Feel free to say what it is. Chu Xuan’s situation has really improved after receiving your treatment. I don’t even know how to thank you. You refuse to take money.”

Qian thought to herself, if she dared to take the money, her teacher would probably nag her for a long time; that old lady sure could be nagging.

”It’s like this, my fiancé’s birthday is coming up soon. I want to give him a gift made by myself. I noticed the little yarn doll on the teacher’s shelf and would like to ask you if you could teach me how to make it?”

Hu Meijing’s brows relaxed, revealing a serene smile.

”This is not a big matter, so that’s what it is. You start with a circular cast-on, then...”

Qian couldn’t understand a word she said; it felt like an ancient script. She was fine with thinking, but anything involving handiwork, she was quite weak at. She pretended to understand, nodding along with Hu Meijing’s explanation.

”...without increasing or decreasing, 25 single crochets will complete it. If you can’t remember, I can write it down for you, and you can call me when you are making it.”

Hu Meijing found paper and a pen, writing while explaining. Qian pretended to comprehend while she thought of ways to glean useful information from Hu Meijing, casually responding.

”This puppy is so cute.”

While writing, Hu Meijing suddenly looked up at Qian and said very seriously.

”This is not a dog; it’s a wolf. When you buy the eyes, explain to the button seller that you need ones like mine, like wolf eyes.”

”Wolf?”

”Yeah... I only crochet this kind; I call it Lone Wolf. Don’t you think the finished toy looks particularly aloof and unyielding, even though it’s a wolf, it has a different kind of tenderness?”

”...Why is it Lone Wolf and not another type of wolf?” Qian asked, her eyes fixed on Hu Meijing.

Hu Meijing, unfazed, continued writing, seemingly unaffected. ”It’s just Lone Wolf. I like Lone Wolf, I like...”

Qian was startled. Based on her experience, if Hu Meijing had done that kind of thing to Lone Wolf, theoretically, she should avoid the name Lone Wolf, so why did she naturally say it?

To test her, Qian decided to increase the stakes.

”Actually, the reason I want to make this to give to my fiancé is because he has a good friend nicknamed Lone Wolf.”

”Really, that’s great, this gift would be perfect.”

Hu Meijing looked up, giving Qian a genuine smile.

Qian stared at her intently, trying to see if there was any sign of guilt in her eyes.

But there was none; it was a clear gaze.

Even the most cunning people, skilled at concealing emotions, still reveal traces when in front of Qian. However, the feeling Hu Meijing gave was that she sought nothing else, even more at peace than Qian.

”My boyfriend’s friend is called Lone Wolf. What do you think of the name Lone Wolf?” Qian was more forthright now. If Hu Meijing showed no emotional fluctuation at this point, it indicated a real problem.

”It sounds quite unruly, it’s an interesting name,” Hu Meijing sincerely said, handing the paper to Qian.

”Meijing, I’ve got something on Sunday. Can you cover my shift?” A flamboyant-looking female teacher approached.

”But I had plans to go to my godmother’s place for dinner on Sunday,” Hu Meijing hesitantly replied.

”I know you’re the best, please~”

The female teacher seemed polite but was obviously forceful, clearly a repeat tactic used to swap shifts with Hu Meijing.

”She’s unavailable, find someone else,” Qian interjected.

”Who are you?” The female teacher challenged Qian, unyielding, knowing that Hu Meijing was the kindest teacher in the kindergarten, making it easier to ask favors from her.

”I’m a student of her godmother. She’s busy on Sunday, don’t bother her anymore.”

The female teacher left reluctantly, murmuring to herself, while Hu Meijing apologized with a smile to Qian, ”Sorry for the trouble.”

”If you don’t like something, just refuse it. You’re so unwilling; why do you compromise?” Qian asked.

”It’s just my personality, I don’t like arguing with people. If I can tolerate something, I do; there’s nothing wrong with that... tolerate a step and the horizon broadens, retreat a step and the space widens...” Hu Meijing had a painful stab in her heart as she spoke.

Her eyes seemed to have their own consciousness, as two lines of tears silently fell from her eyes.

”I’m sorry, Mr Chen, I’m not feeling well... I need to go sit for a while,” Hu Meijing apologized to Qian, wiping her tears.

”It’s okay, I’ve disturbed you, you take care, I’ll head back.”

Qian didn’t miss her tears; those tears were more a reflex than an expression.

It wasn’t a thought Hu Meijing conjured herself, someone must have intensely influenced her, and most likely, that person was Lone Wolf.

Leaving Hu Meijing’s school, Qian returned to the hotel, summarizing the gathered information. A conclusion began to form.

Hu Meijing wasn’t pretending; she really had forgotten about the Lone Wolf incident. Her personality had changed significantly, but subconsciously, she remembered Lone Wolf.

She made crochet toys named Lone Wolf; when she said she liked Lone Wolf, the affection emitted was genuinely not feigned.

Her memories hid due to painful events, but her subconscious never forgot what she once loved.

If Hu Meijing had lost her memory, what kind of psychological problem would cause such reactions? Several disorders quickly ran through Qian’s mind.

Exclude multiple personality disorders, exclude schizophrenia, exclude...

Right then, her phone screen flashed; she grabbed it, Zheng Xu’s number bouncing on the screen.

At this time, what does Zheng Xu want to ask?
