Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 498: Chapter 472: Truly Admire Her

With someone who is already exhausted, desperate, and emotionally out of control, there’s no point in talking sense; they won’t be able to hear it.

Right now, Qian is using empathy to express her understanding, aiming to relieve the psychological pressure.

When someone has reached their limit, what they want to hear is someone else’s acknowledgment. At this moment, just agree with whatever they say.

”Your family situation is truly unfortunate, but I sympathize with you the most. You’re a woman, and it’s not easy for you. Do you have kids? You’ve left them behind, rushing around for your brother’s issues. It’s really difficult for you.”

”Isn’t it just, though? I lost my husband two years ago, and my in-law’s family kicked me out. I could only return to my parents’ home. Thankfully, my brother didn’t mind and gave me food. Now that my brother is like this, can I just ignore it? Sister, my brother is not a bad person, he’s not...”

The woman shed tears, and her emotions seemed not as agitated as before.

”Alas, we’re all unfortunate, weren’t we? How badly did your brother hurt the person?” Qian asked.

”He didn’t injure any internal organs, but they keep insisting that we compensate. How can our family have any money? Our mother has been paralyzed for many years, and my siblings work during the day and care for her at night. All our money goes towards her medical care... Yet they insist on suing us!”

Truly, there’s always a pitiful side to hateful people. Qian realized that this person, who wanted Liao Fugui to pull some strings, isn’t wealthy or powerful; they’re just one of the impoverished masses.

Jia Xiufang was scared and felt sad hearing the other person speak, crying sobbingly.

”Dear sister, why do you put yourself through this? My family also has a paralyzed mother. I know it’s not easy to care for someone!”

”You do?”

”How wouldn’t I know? My mom has been paralyzed for so many years, and my brother and I take turns taking care of her. But my brother isn’t like yours; he’s not filial. It’s just me. Paralyzed patients aren’t aware of their bowel or urination needs, and you have to turn them frequently to prevent bedsores. It sounds easy, but doing it is life-draining...”

Jia Xiufang’s words resonated with the woman. They both took care of sick people and knew the hardships involved.

Qian quickly and aptly intervened, ”So, Auntie, calm down. Let’s talk it over nicely. Whatever difficulties you have, we can help. We’re all just struggling, aren’t we?”

The woman visibly wavered, her hand holding the knife relaxing, tears rolling down her face as she looks towards Liao Fugui.

”It’s truly my first time doing something like this. I’m really out of options...”

”Aren’t solutions thought up by people? Come, tell me about it, and I’ll help you. I’m a psychologist. I have connections and the capacity to lend a hand with your family’s situation. Don’t be so tense; it’s alright, just relax...”

Qian began to guide the woman’s thoughts.

Liao Fugui understood Qian’s intention and cooperated with her approach, saying, ”When one is in difficulty, help comes from everywhere. Just say the word if you’re in trouble.”

”Please help my family; I’ll kneel to you!” The middle-aged woman put down the knife and knelt on the ground once again, covering her face as she weeped.

Qian reached out to pull her mom back, letting Jia Xiufang stay away from the scene. She hugged the woman, gently patting her back to soothe her.

”Everything will pass; trust me, everything will be alright, don’t be afraid.”

”What will I do...” The woman continued to cry helplessly. Qian gestured to her mother, ”Mom, go make some soup. It seems this aunt hasn’t eaten in a while either.”

”But you—” Jia Xiufang was worried about her daughter, although this woman was pitiful, she had just pointed a knife at her daughter!

”I’m fine, trust my expertise.”

Qian told her mother, then unobtrusively kicked the knife on the ground into the sofa crevice, making it vanish, which helped ease the woman’s emotions.

”I’m psychologist Chen Xiaoqian. Would you like to share your troubles with me?”

Liao Fugui was in awe watching Qian sit on the sofa, counseling the woman. This girl’s professionalism was truly admirable; from defusing a hostage crisis to professional psychological consultation, not a single word was wasted.

Liao Fugui could see now that what Qian was conducting is known in psychology as cognitive therapy. By altering the person’s fixed cognition, her current irritable, depressed, and anxious emotions could be transformed.

Cognitive therapy is extremely common in psychotherapy and applicable to various conditions like anorexia nervosa, alcohol dependence, social phobia, and even certain sexual dysfunctions.

This highly professional conversation technique can also guide negative emotions. Liao Fugui’s expertise lies in forensic psychiatry, leaning towards law and psychology. While he has a method for assessing mental health and psychological diseases, he doesn’t compare to Qian in terms of clinical experience.

Hence, seeing Qian expertly and seamlessly provide cognitive therapy while releasing the woman’s emotions, Liao Fugui couldn’t help but be greatly impressed by Qian. He couldn’t even chime in, watching Qian lead the woman to wail, shedding all hostility, first expressing agreement to gain trust, then flawlessly transitioning into cognitive therapy—truly strong.

Qian’s therapy took just under two hours, and after the woman cried, she was no longer the same as when she arrived.

”Thank you, Mr Chen. I don’t feel as bad now. The trouble I caused you earlier... Perhaps you should have someone take me away; I’m willing to accept re-education.”

”It’s no big deal, no need to bother the officers. I’ll give you my phone number. If you’re troubled in the future, you can call me, and we can arrange a time to talk. Auntie, there’s no problem that can’t be solved; take things easy.”

Qian wrote down her phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to the woman. The woman was moved to tears, bowing repeatedly to Qian before turning away.

”May I ask which school you’re from, Mr Chen, and where you work? Could you also leave me your contact information? When I encounter related issues in my job going forward, we could exchange ideas.”

Qian glanced at Liao Fugui and responded indifferently, ”No, we’re not the same kind. I’m just money-driven, reeking of copper. In the future, I’ll disrupt the market pricing for psychological consultation; I’ll dominate and oppress, doing whatever I wish. I’m not a good person. A high-minded person like you should draw a clear line from me. You go be the righteous official, and I’ll earn my money. We’ll stay out of each other’s way. Bye!”

Jia Xiufang brought over freshly cooked soup, ”Where is she?”

”Everyone went back to their homes; she’s returned!” Qian took Jia Xiufang home, while Liao Fugui watched her back, filled with doubt.

Why would anyone describe themselves with such venom?

This young lady is really interesting. He had just witnessed all that she did. She wasn’t the person she described herself to be—she’s a psychologist with a heart full of love. He truly admired her.
