Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Gu Yifan Has Kidney Deficiency? The Socially Fearless Chen Dongmei

”Director Gu, your son has already had a full-body examination. According to the report, all his bodily functions are normal!”

The balding, middle-aged doctor, Director He, flipped through the report as he spoke to Gu Jiaguo.

”Hm?”

”Didn’t they say he jump— ahem, fell from the roof of the fourth or fifth floor?”

”From that high up, and he’s completely fine?”

Gu Jiaguo asked, surprised.

By now, he already knew the ”full story” behind the incident. Everyone was convinced that Gu Yifan had jumped because his love confession had been rejected.

As for what Gu Yifan had said at the school assembly, everyone thought it was just a final, stubborn denial.

So they had all subconsciously ignored it.

”Yes, I find it a bit strange as well!”

”Logically, after falling from such a height, he should have sustained at least some injuries, even if an air cushion broke his fall.”

”But the report clearly shows that Classmate Gu is completely uninjured!”

Director He confirmed with a nod.

”Oh.”

Gu Jiaguo relaxed after receiving a definitive answer.

’As long as he’s okay, that’s all that matters. We can deal with the whole jumping-off-a-building thing later!’

”Phew...”

It wasn’t just him. Beside them, Gu Yifan’s mother, Chen Dongmei, also let out a huge sigh of relief.

”As long as he’s okay, as long as he’s okay!”

She patted her chest, a great weight finally lifted from her heart.

Beside them, Su Qinghe also felt her own anxieties ease.

If Gu Yifan had actually been hurt, her guilt would have been even greater.

”However...”

Just then, Director He suddenly spoke up, his tone hesitant.

That single word from the doctor—”however”—made everyone in the room tense up again.

”Hm?”

Gu Jiaguo furrowed his brow. He looked at Director He and said, ”Director He, if you have something to say, just say it.”

”Well...”

Hearing Gu Jiaguo’s words, Director He glanced at Gu Yifan, hesitated for a moment, then walked over to Gu Jiaguo and whispered in his ear, ”Um... the report shows that all of Xiaogu’s bodily functions are normal, it’s just that... his kidneys seem a bit deficient lately...”

”But, Director Gu, you don’t need to be too concerned! It’s quite normal for a young man. He just needs to eat some restorative foods to build his strength back up, and he’ll be fine!”

Gu Jiaguo: ”...”

His voice was so low that no one else in the hospital room heard him except for Gu Jiaguo.

Seeing this, the others in the room looked at the two men curiously, but felt it wasn’t their place to ask what was said.

’Kidney deficiency???’

At that moment, Gu Jiaguo was utterly speechless.

On the surface, however, his expression remained placid.

He turned his head, gave his son a long, hard look, and then said flatly, ”Alright, I understand.”

Gu Yifan saw Director He look at him, and then his own father looked at him too.

His dad’s especially meaningful gaze left him completely bewildered.

’What’s that supposed to mean?’

’Don’t tell me he’s about to reveal I’m not his biological son. That would be such a soap opera cliché, wouldn’t it?’

’That can’t be right!’

’I remember we confirmed our blood relationship during a family health check in my past life!’

For a moment, Gu Yifan couldn’t make heads or tails of it.

After a few more words, Director He tactfully took his leave with the medical staff.

The teachers from his school also departed after offering a few pleasantries and words of concern on behalf of the institution, leaving a fruit basket behind.

In the end, only Gu Yifan, his mom and dad, and Su Qinghe were left in the hospital room.

At that point, the couple, Gu Jiaguo and Chen Dongmei, finally noticed Su Qinghe sitting silently in the corner.

Although her head was bowed, she had a gentle and tranquil air about her that was very pleasant.

’This girl is very nice!’

The couple exchanged a look, and Chen Dongmei asked Gu Yifan, ”Son, and this is...?”

”Oh, I forgot to introduce you. This is Su Qinghe. She’s my classmate.”

Gu Yifan said casually, munching on the apple Su Qinghe had peeled for him earlier.

”Hello, sir. Hello, ma’am.”

Su Qinghe looked up, her face blushing, and greeted Gu Yifan’s parents.

The moment she looked up, her exquisitely beautiful face was revealed.

The pure tranquility in her eyes, in particular, was so captivating it made one want to protect her.

Chen Dongmei’s eyes lit up.

”Xiaosu, hello, hello!”

”Such a lovely girl!”

Chen Dongmei said with a beaming smile.

Su Qinghe’s already rosy cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red.

”Xiaosu, thank you so much for taking care of Yifan for us earlier!”

Chen Dongmei said with a smile, taking Su Qinghe’s small hand in hers.

”Ah?”

At her words, Su Qinghe was momentarily at a loss for what to say.

’After all, she was the reason Gu Yifan got into this mess in the first place.’

”Ahem.”

Gu Yifan, seeing Su Qinghe’s discomfort, coughed and spoke up to rescue her. ”Mom, uh, I’m fine now. I should be able to get discharged, right?”

”Oh, that’s right!”

”I just forgot to ask the doctor if you could be discharged!”

Chen Dongmei suddenly remembered and slapped her thigh.

”I’ll go ask the doctor.”

Gu Jiaguo, who was standing to the side, glanced at his son and spoke up.

”Okay, Old Gu, go ask the doctor.”

”If he can be discharged, go ahead and handle the paperwork while you’re at it!”

Chen Dongmei said to her husband.

”Alright!”

”I’m off. You all can talk.”

Gu Jiaguo nodded, and with that, he turned and walked out of the room.

”So, Xiaosu, what do your parents do?”

”You should come over to our house sometime!”

...

In the moments that followed, Gu Yifan’s mother’s enthusiasm left Su Qinghe completely flustered.

She kept her head down the entire time, her face flushed, not knowing what to say.

”Mom, are you running a background check on her? That’s enough!”

Gu Yifan said to his mother helplessly.

”You little brat, if you don’t know how to talk, then shut your mouth! No one will think you’re mute!”

”What ’background check’? Don’t make it sound so unpleasant, honestly!”

”Go on, shoo! Go stand in a corner somewhere!”

Chen Dongmei shot him an irritated glare.

After saying that, she turned back to Su Qinghe with a beaming smile and said, ”Xiaosu, let’s just ignore him and continue our chat!”

The way her attitude switched was faster than flipping a page in a book.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

’My mom is great in every way, but sometimes the things that come out of her mouth are just astounding!’

Su Qinghe stole a glance at him, and seeing his frustrated expression, she found it rather amusing.

Before long, the two of them were chatting away like old friends.

A young girl like Su Qinghe was no match for his mother.

In no time at all, she had revealed almost everything about herself.

She’d told her everything short of the color of her underwear!

When she learned that Su Qinghe was all alone in the world, Chen Dongmei’s maternal instincts instantly kicked in, and her heart ached for the girl.

She held Su Qinghe’s hand, insisting on adopting her as a goddaughter.

This gave Gu Yifan a huge fright!
