Chapter 989: Chapter 776: Ship of Greed

No response, only the furious spray of machine guns.

But Huai Shi’s figure suddenly dissolved into the twisted rain curtain, as if melting into the darkness, becoming incredibly elusive. He pulled the trigger towards those encircling enemies.

The deadly grenades scattered in all directions, metallic seeds falling to the ground, blossoming into fleeting fiery flowers. The scorching wind lifted the rain curtain, causing the hazy vapors to ripple between heaven and earth.

In the deafening roar, everything seemed to become distant.

Crying faces and blood were no longer visible.

One could deceive oneself, pretending that what happened was merely a dream. He was just having a nightmare, and went out for a run after waking up...

But death continued to rise.

In this silence, the Stigma of the Soloist silently mourned.

Huai Shi expressionless, pulled the trigger.

But the crisp sound did not come forth. He pulled it again, hearing only the sound of breakage within the gun chamber.

He lowered his head to look at the grenade launcher in his hand, seeing the dent marks from bullet impacts on the gun body, and the sound of internal parts falling apart. Regretfully, he discarded it to the side and continued forward.

As he passed by the struggling figures, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handgun.

Bang! Bang bang!

No other sound was heard.

Quiet.

A thick fog had unknowingly started to cover everything around. Huai Shi paused in place, surveying his surroundings.

At some point... he had already fallen deep into the hunting ground.

Deathly silence.

Behind him, the air suddenly opened into a large hole, followed by bullets heated to red-hot that pushed sounds far behind.

Huai Shi’s figure disappeared, reappearing dozens of meters away.

It was only then that the delayed boom of the anti-material sniper rifle arrived, leaving a deep pit on the ground and causing stones to scatter.

All around, within the thin rain and fog, a dozen figures slowly emerged.

At the forefront of Huai Shi, an alluring figure emerged from the mist. The black Yingzhou long dress was drenched by the rain, and the peony depicted with insect dye on it became even more flamboyant.

”What a coincidence, Mr. Huaizhi.”

Once the croupier of Empire Casino, Izumoto Renge tilted her head, smiling at Huai Shi, ”We meet again.”

In the long silence, Huai Shi softly sighed, ”So it turns out it was Chiba that turned traitor?”

”No, actually it was commissioned by Boss Tobio.”

Izumoto Renge shrugged, ”You Huaizhi Gang were too much trouble, so he hired us specifically to deal with you.”

”Spoken nicely, I almost believed it.”

Huai Shi said, ”Ms. Izumoto, could you please find a better excuse next time you’re trying to sow discord?”

Izumoto Renge laughed, ”Just saying it casually. Wouldn’t it be even better if it worked by any chance?”

Huai Shi did not laugh, simply looked at them silently and sighed, ”I initially thought the Chiba meeting had some bottom line...”

”What the employer thinks has nothing to do with us; we’re just responsible for executing orders.”

Accompanied by Izumoto Renge’s words, other murderous figures gradually closed in, sealing off the escape route for Huai Shi inch by inch.

From Izumoto Renge’s sleeve, slender lock chains and the contours of curved, menacing sickle blades slowly emerged, conveying the employer’s orders to Huai Shi:

”—You’re too much trouble, Huai Zhisu People, you must be dealt with here.”

Bounty hunters from the Tomb of the Homeless·[Ship of Greed] drew their weapons, inching closer, enveloped by a killing intent.

Brief silence.

Huai Shi remained silent, looked down at the handgun in his hand, and suddenly asked, ”By the way, compared to the Eye of Nightmare, which of your teams is more badass?”

No response.

Izumoto Renge remained expressionless, silent, only her eyes slightly lifted.

Compared to the colossal entity like the Eye of Nightmare, groups within the Tomb of the Homeless that could be mentioned in the same breath were remarkably few. Even though the Ship of Greed was somewhat famous, it still couldn’t be compared to those war legions able to partake in battles across worlds.

If anything, it couldn’t even match one percent of it.

And Huai Shi, as if having gotten his answer, sighed in relief.

”...that’s good then.”

He smiled in relief, letting go of the handgun, ”If you were more powerful than the Eye of Nightmare, I might not be able to finish killing you all.”

Murderous intent surfaced in Izumoto Renge’s eyes.

Soon after, she felt a shiver of dread.

Because faster than her, was Huai Shi.

Already, he was right in front of her!

A longsword, covered in brilliant flames, manifested from the void. With the advance of Yu Step, it sliced a straight trajectory through the air, swept horizontally towards her neck!

Faster than expected!

More terrifying than the scenes previously witnessed or the gathered information!

Even though she was already somewhat prepared, she was still startled by the terrifying speed, even forgetting to retreat. Instinctively, she raised the sickle blade, the slender iron chains crisscrossing in mid-air, forming a net to block the front.

Then within that moment so brief it could not be described with words, everything fell apart.

A devastating slash!

The sharp sword edge and sickle blade clashed, sparks flying everywhere.

In that fleeting pause, she saw Huai Shi’s eyes, pitch black, like an abyss.

But immediately, his figure disappeared from the spot.

Just as suddenly as he came.

A bullet from afar grazed by Izumoto Renge’s temple and into the ground, the resounding boom spread. This was the crucial shot that saved her.

Then, the sound of blood spraying erupted.

Right beside Izumoto Renge, someone who hadn’t reacted stood frozen in place, vacantly turning their gaze to the figure that somehow appeared behind them.

From his sword blade, blood slowly dripped.

Then, accompanied by a smooth scraping sound, a headless skull fell to the ground, soaking into a muddy pool, stained with a tinge of crimson in the mire.

Through the geyser of blood gushing from the headless corpse, Izumoto saw Huai Shi’s smile, filled with such pity.

”Since we’ve already met forthrightly, let me introduce myself too.” He said, ”Apart from the name Huai Zhisu, you can also call me Huai Shi.”

—Beheading King of Jinling, Huai Shi!

From his hand, the Blade of Resent stretched inch by inch, the curse’s ferocity spreading to all directions.

”Now, let’s begin...”

At his feet, iris flowers quietly bloomed, emitting a fragrant scent.

And he disappeared again, suddenly advancing, crossing tens of meters in an instant, appearing before another person.

The Blade of Resent swept across with a low hum, the drummer accelerating, only seeing an iron gleam flash, nearly severing at the waist.

But amidst the intense pain, the person did not panic; the spraying blood suddenly solidified, in the air forming hands that clamped onto Huai Shi.

His hands gripped the Blade of Resent’s edge, heedless of life’s energy being drained, suddenly opening his mouth to bite at Huai Shi’s neck, his canines protruding.

Vampire!

A booming roar erupted.

Right behind Huai Shi, a massive figure bizarrely appeared, the iron hammer in its hand aimed at Huai Shi’s head, scorching source fluctuations emanating from the hammer, causing the air around Huai Shi to solidify instantly, leaving no room for struggle.

Then, the solidified air shattered, in a flash, crisscrossing iron gleams intersected in the void, blood spraying.

Huai Shi had already stepped out from between two corpses.

Cold rainwater evaporated from his shoulders, slowly rising.

—Overload State Triple Dragon Xiang!

The curses that couldn’t invade his body surrounded him, easily torn apart with his breath.

From the far end, a Sublimator suddenly screamed, stumbled back, eyes bulging, as if suffocating, struggling to clutch his throat, spitting out blood in huge gulps.

The clotted blood hit the ground and swiftly sprouted fluff, countless spores spreading.

Before he fell to the ground, his consciousness plunged into the Rotting Dream, his shell under the toxic source turned into a wax figure, slowly melting.

Only a multitude of malignant spores scattered in the air.

Carrying the scent of flowers and grass, so fragrant.

”Is that it?” Huai Shi looked up, smiling wryly at Izumoto Renge in the distance: ”Your group seems really not up to par...”

He stepped forward, the air behind him trembled, and a breach appeared again.

Sniper attack!

But this time, he had already pinpointed the direction the bullet came from, crossing with the Yu Step, then pulling out The Fly King from his bag, pulling the trigger behind him.

The Alchemy Bullet shot into the void, sparking a burst of fire in the deepest part of the mist.

”The fifth one...”

Huai Shi counted softly, and then, the remaining seven enemies had already launched an ambush.

The ground shook suddenly, cracking open, serpent-like sword blades emerged from within, swimming like sharks, stabbing upwards at Huai Shi.

The Hammer of Sorrow appeared in Huai Shi’s hands, the tail flame’s intense light bursting forth, slamming down.

The cracked ground soared suddenly, countless evaporating blood gases gushing from the fissures, the broken sword blade already deeply embedded into the soil.

Izumoto Renge’s chain and sickle had already rushed towards him.

From the sleeve of her long dress, dozens of chains flew out, tightly wrapping around Huai Shi, countless white snake phantoms emerged, pulling him into the air.

Then, she saw, between Huai Shi’s splayed fingers, the colossal iron hammer vanished, sparks bursting, The Sorrow of Index shot out from the thick smoke, abruptly contracting, extending up the chains, shattering Izumoto’s control, tightly constricting, crushing the blood-enriched white snake shikigami into pieces.

Izumoto stared blankly at Huai Shi, and Huai Shi also looked at him.

The runaway sickle blade fell from the air, landing in his hand, forcibly controlled and subdued by the Hand of Confinement, slicing open another throat in his hand.

Blood spraying, the sound of a head hitting the ground so dull.

Throughout, his expression remained calm, as if simply weeding the ground or pulling out a harmful poisonous flower.

So calm it was frightening.

Looking at her.

”The ninth one.” He said, ”Don’t be afraid, it will be over soon.”

The nightmare has begun.
