Chapter 971: Chapter 757: Arrangements

”It’s going to rain, everyone take care.”

In front of the dilapidated door of the mutual aid association, the middle-aged man patiently handed out umbrellas, reminding the attendees, ”It’s pretty chaotic outside lately. If you have no time, don’t come here... If necessary, you can temporarily stay here. There are still many beds available.”

”Oh no, Doctor of God City, you’ve already been taking care of so many patients, it’s very tiring for you.” The participants waved their hands in unison, ”It’s better not to cause trouble.”

”It’s alright, it’s just one more bed.”

God City’s doctor smiled warmly, standing in the drizzle watching the elderly and children leave.

After a while, as he was about to turn back, he heard a distant voice, hurried footsteps.

Stumbling in the mud.

The middle-aged woman hoarsely cried out, her tangled hair stuck to her face, and her prematurely aged visage full of panic: ”Doctor of God City, is Doctor of God City here? I beg you, save him, save my child!”

She carefully lifted the child she was holding, revealing the raincoat made of plastic bags on her body.

In the woman’s arms, the child, probably twelve, had already lost consciousness in the high fever, his face burning red, twisted and rigid, covered in blisters.

The emaciated limbs were horribly deformed, large patches of skin peeled off, continuously seeping blood underneath, some areas already torn from friction along the way; mucus oozed out.

”Progressive ossifying myopathy...” God City’s doctor frowned, ”Showing signs of fever should have gone to the hospital, why so late?”

”I... I lost my job, and I finally found a job in Fushimi Ward recently... I just went out for a while, I just went out for a while...”

The disheveled woman incoherently explained, pulled up from the ground by God City’s doctor.

”Don’t talk anymore, let’s prepare for surgery right away, time is critical—nurse! Is the nurse here!?”

Quickly, the nurse and assistant emerged from the door, clutching the child, hurriedly preparing for the emergency surgery.

God City’s doctor paused momentarily, turned back to the stunned woman and softly said, ”The prospects aren’t good, prepare yourself.”

The woman stood confounded, in the rain, the joy on her face gradually washed away like sand, and the remaining obscure contour no longer indicated any expression.

After a long while, she squatted powerlessly on the ground, emitting a sharp wail.

”Don’t be afraid, everyone will soon be saved.”

God City, with his back to her, softly said, ”Soon, there will be no more suffering.”

In the silence, only the woman’s hoarse cries remained.

In the distance, on the rooftop, the rain violently lashed at the black raincoat.

Liu DongLi silently ate dry food, mouthful by mouthful, calmly swallowing the last crumbs.

Overlooking without a sound.

Remaining silent.

”Is it raining?”

In the ward, Tobio lazy and leaning back on the bed, lifted his eyes to glance outside the window, ”The plum rain season has arrived. Every year around this time it’s sticky and uncomfortable, my limbs ache unbearably. Seems I’ve truly grown old.”

Originally, this would be the time to say something about always being in one’s prime with an undying blade, but Huai Shi thought for a moment, examined the wrinkles on his face, and couldn’t help but agree with a nod.

”Hmm.”

When one gets old, it’s time to retire quickly and give up their place.

You’re already lying in the hospital; why not hand over the position of Alliance President to me and let me experience the thrill of everyone’s turn to be the president coming to my house today?

After waiting for quite a while and realizing Huai Shi could only muster a ”hmm” and stared straight at him, full of anticipation, Tobio just wanted to roll his eyes.

”I’ve waited my whole life to finally become the president of the alliance, and I plan to hold onto it until I die, Huaizhi-kun, don’t entertain such fantasies, okay?”

”That’s hard to say, something unexpected always happens.”

Huai Shi pondered for a moment, earnestly advised, ”You’re getting older, it’s wise to arrange things for the future early—the responsibility of the alliance should be handed over to talented young people like me.”

”Young people should work harder and dream less.”

Tobio, uninterested in his suggestion, touched his pocket and found he was wearing a patient’s gown, then pointed at the bedside cabinet, signaling Huai Shi to open it.

After opening it, he discovered a heavy gun inside.

Huai Shi paused, gazing at the gun, then at Tobio.

What is the significance? Is the old man asking me to help him end it?

With that peculiar gaze, Huai Shi felt a chill, making Tobio infuriated, thinking: this damn brat always fantasizes about taking out the boss and ascending himself!

”If you keep it up, I’ll have Mr. Tenda come in and send you off!”

Repeatedly rubbed the wrong way, Tobio’s demeanor turned angry: ”The thing beside the gun, help me take it out.”

It was a key, labeled with a room number.

Tobio held it in his hand, contemplating for a long time, shook his head with a sigh, and tossed it to Huai Shi.

”What’s this?”

”Something prepared years ago, but as I aged, my courage diminished, never got to use it,” Tobio shook his head in reminiscence, ”speaking of arranging things for the future, better safe than sorry, I’ll give you this, just in case.”

Huai Shi originally had a lot of jokes, yet Tobio’s serious demeanor startled him.

”Is the situation really this grave?”

”You’ve been busy with your Huaizhi Gang’s territory these past two days, haven’t you?” Tobio thought for a moment, then said, ”The Yamada Group, it was wiped out this morning.”

Huai Shi frowned.

He recalled the old man he had once dealt with.

Shrewd and competent, cautious in his dealings, a slick operator in the Alliance, he had once ruthlessly tricked him during the settlement of the Tiger King Group’s inheritance.

Now suddenly wiped out, just dead like that...

While Huai Shi was organizing his territory in the past two days, wars between the Alliance and other gangs had already ignited with fervor. Although a full-scale war hadn’t broken out yet, localized conflicts were constant, with vendettas, assassinations, attacks, and reprisals occurring frequently.

Nowadays, the streets rarely show any people idly wandering, all afraid of getting caught up in the Iron King Party’s retaliation.

”What about the aftermath?” Huai Shi asked.

”Akasaki has already taken care of it, no need to worry.”

Tobio said, ”Since you’re keen on setting up a refuge in the Tanbo Inner Circle, then do it well. If there are victims, I’ll have them sent there. This upheaval... might just be your opportunity.”

It was under the high pressure of the Order of Nothingness that Huai Shi rapidly rocketed upwards, but his foundation remained unstable. If Huai Shi could really seize this opportunity to gather the hearts of the people, becoming the next president might not be just idle talk.

Huai Shi lowered his head to look at the key in his hand, realizing after hearing Tobio’s arrangements that the old man was indeed grooming him as his successor.

He couldn’t help but feel a bit moved.

He said, ”I won’t stay long, once this matter ends, I might not stay.”

”It’s always a way out, isn’t it?”

Tobio didn’t care for Huai Shi’s concealed matters, waved his hand: ”Just focus on your own work, don’t think too much, if you screw up, maybe I’ll be the first to issue a kill order on you.”

Huai Shi bid farewell, stood up, ready to leave, but before departing, he couldn’t help but turn back to ask: ”Liu... ahem, did Lihua say anything before leaving? Something left for me?”

”How would I know?”

Tobio glanced at him with a strange expression: ”Although I’ve never meddled in the young folks’ clingy affairs, you kid better not be too presumptuous.”

The real Lihua is still safely staying at the Border.

You all, don’t ruin her Feng Ping... Otherwise, how can she get married in the future?

Not to mention the feeling of disdain conveyed completely through his gaze.

Huai Shi chuckled, bid farewell, and left.

In the once-again silent hospital room, Tobio sighed.

After a moment of contemplation, the old man suddenly raised his eyes: ”Mr. Tenda, please pass me the phone.”

.

.

After leaving Kahara hospital, Ueno drove slowly through the torrential rain.

Even with the wipers on, it was still hard to see due to the rain washing over. Having deliberately chosen secluded paths, there were hardly any vehicles on the empty streets.

It felt like traversing a world submerged by floods.

But in a rare moment of respite, Huai Shi suddenly raised his head.

In the external storm, the Steel Crow hovering in the sky spotted a strange figure soaring through the air like a ghost.

In just an instant of observation, a tendril resembling a woman’s hair shot out from the shadow, piercing the Raven’s eye from hundreds of meters away, tearing its form.

In the blink of an eye, the Raven was reborn inside the Dream Cage through the return of Source Substance, angrily cawing with impotent rage.

”Ueno, brake—”

As he spoke, Huai Shi saw that bizarre shadow descending from the sky.

Under the flickering street lights of the storm, it abruptly landed on the highway, countless twisted, hair-like extensions protruding from its body, writhing chaotically.

Suddenly, beneath those squirming long hairs, a multitude of eyes opened wide, directly staring at Huai Shi who was rapidly approaching from over a kilometer away.

Evil light burst forth!

Attack!

Under the intense stimulation of Death Perception, Huai Shi stretched his arm, abruptly twisted the steering wheel.

The heavy sedan skidded in the rain, erratically steering, wobbling before crashing into the wall, half plowing through the gate, into a shop long closed.

The sound of collapse was unending.

As if it were sliced by a thousand sharp blades, the rear half of the car struck by the evil light instantly fell apart.

Huai Shi, kicking Ueno out of the soon-to-explode car, tore open the door, stepping over the burning gasoline toward the figure approaching through the post-storm rain.

Under the cover of countless hair-like tendrils, those vile eyes kept opening and closing, glaring fixedly at Huai Shi.

The hoarse voice seemed to emanate from the vibration of the rainwater.

”Huai Zhisu People?”

Huai Shi just nodded, not even able to respond before sensing Death Perception suddenly erupt. After a tremor under his feet, a sharp strand of pitch-black hair broke through the ground’s constraints to entangle him.

As he dodged, he saw the writhing hair abruptly constrict, and between the strands, a cold eye slowly opened, an evil, intent gaze meeting his face.
