The Lovely Heiress Is Actually A God Beast

Capítulo 1396: Chapter 1396: Why Give Him Money?

Seeing him remain silent, Little Taotie continued to add salt to the wound: “Even if it’s only a suspicion without evidence that you’re the one who put the maggots, that’s enough for him to take it out on you by not paying you.”

Chef Wu: “…”

The little one’s reasoning was too sound to refute.

There was indeed such a possibility.

When the customers made a fuss over the maggots, the young girl wouldn’t be able to handle it; the real boss would have to step in at that time.

The boss certainly wouldn’t believe that no one was causing trouble. After all, the store had been open for so many years, and not even a small fly had ever appeared on a plate before, let alone maggots. The boss would definitely suspect the three people involved: the Head Chef, the Chef, and the waiter.

The three suspects would not receive any severance pay from the boss, whether or not they had done it.

Greed had clouded Chef Wu’s mind, but now it finally started to clear, and he gradually calmed down.

He slumped powerlessly into the chair, feeling utterly drained.

“It was me.”

The voice was quiet, but the rest area was silent enough for it to be clearly heard.

Little Taotie spread his small hands: “See, I didn’t wrongly accuse you. You look so ugly shouting about your innocence.”

Someone who lies is indeed ugly.

Little Taotie pointed to a camera in the room: “Everything that just happened has been recorded, and you’ve confessed. I will report all this to the real boss and let him handle you.”

Chef Wu nodded in resignation.

…

The boss hurried over after receiving the surveillance video recording. He entered the break room, and Little Taotie stepped out, leaving the room for him and Chef Wu.

The boss and Chef Wu sat facing each other; at first, neither spoke.

The boss took something wrapped in old newspaper out of his bag and handed it over.

Chef Wu wondered, “What is it?”

“See for yourself.” The boss’s tone was not pleasant.

Chef Wu pursed his lips, his eyes dodging guiltily, not daring to meet the boss’s gaze.

He slowly unwrapped the old newspaper and saw what was inside.

It was money.

Stacks and stacks of thick money.

By the looks of it, about ninety thousand.

It should be the ninety thousand severance pay.

He incredulously looked up at the boss, “This is…”

The boss made a hush gesture, “Don’t speak. I don’t want to hear your voice.”

“This is the severance pay you wanted, and I’m giving it to you now; you can leave.”

The boss stood up, intending to open the door and leave.

Chef Wu shouted, “Why are you giving it to me! Why don’t you call the police and have me arrested? I’ve already confessed; you can call the police and have me arrested! Why are you still giving me money, why are you still giving me——”

“You disregard old times, but I’m not like you. We’ve known each other for six years; I don’t want to send you in and ruin your future. But I also don’t wish to associate with you anymore. You should leave. From now on, we are no longer friends, just strangers. If we see each other on the road, let’s pretend we don’t know each other.”

The boss left and closed the door.

Chef Wu looked at the closed door, then at the money in his hand, and finally broke down, crying in shame.

Chef Wu left, and the boss gave him some dignity by telling the other employees that Chef Wu had to rush back due to a family emergency.

But the perceptive Head Chef could guess a thing or two.

It’s too much of a coincidence for Wu to leave right after the maggot incident happened.

There’s only one possibility, that Chef Wu was the one who placed the maggots.

Chef Wu took the ninety thousand with him and, despite feeling guilty, did not turn down the money. This left Little Taotie a bit unsatisfied.

Little Taotie ate the fruit candy brought by the boss and mumbled unhappily, “Why give him money?”
