Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”Master, why have you stopped the workers? The place is all cleaned up, and the designer is coming to view it tomorrow.”

Harper Johnson looked at Arthur Yates’s face, asking with an expression of confusion.

”Incapable of accomplishing anything, but proficient at spoiling things.”

Arthur Yates sneered coldly, turned around, and walked back into the study.

Evelyn followed behind and walked into the study with Arthur Yates.

”Father, why not demolish it? What happened?”

Her eyes were filled with confusion. Clearing out this small space for the future baby’s children’s room really wasn’t a big deal. Why isn’t it possible now?

”Evelyn, you should focus on keeping Joshua Hughes’s heart closer to you. If his heart is with you, even if you want to break my bones, it’s not a problem. But if his heart isn’t with you, then don’t act rashly, or else you’ll just humiliate yourself.”

With so many workers outside just now, he didn’t want to say much, causing Evelyn to lose face and also making himself look bad.

His daughter, although pregnant with the dragon’s offspring, still couldn’t exalt herself through her child.

His thinking seemed to have been too simplistic.

”Master, what are you talking about? Our Evelyn is already pregnant. How can Joshua Hughes’s heart not be with her?”

Harper Johnson had just walked in behind them and heard Arthur Yates’s words, asking anxiously.

”In any case, don’t make a fuss before the wedding is held.”

Arthur Yates’s narrow eyes were dim and dull, and his voice was like a gust of cold wind blowing through.

”Father, why on earth aren’t you demolishing it today? I must know. Did Joshua say so?”

Evelyn stepped forward, holding onto Arthur Yates’s desk with both hands, trembling with anxiety and anger.

”It’s not impossible to demolish it, but if you tear down that building, you’d have to move back home. Are you willing to do that? Do you want to end it like this and return home?”

Arthur Yates was provoking his daughter. At this point, only by fueling her anger towards Avery Jane could he remove Avery Jane more quickly.

It seemed that woman really couldn’t remain by Joshua Hughes’s side. Her danger was gradually deepening, and her influence on Joshua Hughes was becoming more severe.

”Impossible, Joshua would never do that...”

Evelyn’s face turned pale in an instant, biting her lip and desperately holding back the urge to rush to the Imperial Garden and tear Avery Jane’s face to shreds.

”Evelyn, don’t be anxious, don’t get upset, you’re still pregnant.”

Harper Johnson looked at her daughter’s face with concern, walked over to support her, and helped her sit on the study’s sofa, pouring her a cup of hot water.

Right now, her daughter’s health was most important. If anything happened to this child, all would have been for nothing.

”It’s okay, I will stand up for you. Very soon, within a few days, that vile woman will surely come to Hughes Castle, and when that time comes, you can deal with her as you please. That’s your territory.”

Harper Johnson assured with absolute confidence. She knew that Joshua Hughes’s mother would definitely manage this situation because she was afraid of the secrets in her hands.

——————————————Dividing Line————————————————

Maybe it was due to the morning’s commotion, or maybe she was too heartbroken, but she actually fell asleep.

Yet her eyes and lashes were still wet. Just how much did she love that man who had passed away?

Crying for him even in her dreams?

Joshua Hughes withdrew his gaze from her face, his slender fingers massaging his brow, his expression suppressed with heartache and frustration...

He didn’t want to lose his temper with her, didn’t want to keep scaring her, but he was just too easily provoked by her.

He couldn’t calm down upon hearing her say that she and Wenyard Cooper were mutually in love. Hearing that, any man would definitely be unable to remain calm.

He admitted that he was nearly going crazy. She said she also wanted to do it with Wenyard Cooper, she also desired it, yet she always resisted him, never willing.

Nanny Collins reminded at the door in a lowered voice.

”Young master, Madam Hughes has come and is in the courtyard, do you want to see her?”

Nanny Collins’s voice was already gruff, and when lowered in this room, it sounded like coarse sandpaper grinding against metal, sending shivers down one’s spine.

”Let her wait outside.”

What was this woman doing here again?

Joshua Hughes slightly furrowed his long, commanding eyebrows, gently stroked the still-sleeping Avery Jane’s hair, softly closed the door and walked out.

”Joshua, I need to talk to you.”

Grace Roe was the same as ever, with her elegant dress. From the color to the style, to the accessories, there was not a single flaw to be found.

The only thing that elicited regret was her complexion, which didn’t seem too good; the delicate makeup couldn’t hide the faint tiredness on her face and the subtle shadows under her eyes.

”Have you done something wrong again, Madam Hughes? Your spirit doesn’t seem well; are you burdened by guilt?”

Joshua Hughes looked at her coldly, his voice carrying a hint of sarcasm.

”But perhaps I’m overthinking, you’ve never had a conscience...”

”Joshua, must you talk to me this way? I am your mother.”

Grace Roe looked at her eldest son, exhausted. Because she had wronged him too much, even speaking in front of him made her feel powerless.

”Say what you have to say quickly, once you’ve said it, leave. You’re not welcome here.”

Joshua Hughes stood there, without any intention of inviting her in to sit down, while Grace forced herself to calm down.

”Joshua, I want you to stay at the Hughes Castle today; it’s a tradition no one can break. My biggest concession is that you can bring that woman from outside back, but after Evelyn gives birth, she must leave.”

She couldn’t explain to Joshua her true dilemmas; these things would forever be buried in her heart.

Anyway, her son already hated her enough, a little more hatred wouldn’t matter as long as he could live well.

”What a joke, since when does the Hughes Family listen to you? Although you have close ties with the Hughes men, that doesn’t mean anything. Why on earth should I listen to you, dear mother?”

Joshua Hughes gazed coldly at the woman in front of him, thinking: what does she count for?

Did she think everyone in the world was like his kind and gentle father?

Letting her deceive, letting her take whatever she wanted?

He wasn’t; he was Joshua Hughes, whose blood had turned cold since the age of six...

”Joshua, you will agree.”

Grace Roe watched her tall son, who looked so much like his father.

But while his father had gentleness, he was filled with dominance, like a king reigning over the world, making people have to submit.

But today she couldn’t submit; she had to make him return to the Hughes Family.

”You can leave now. It’s truly ridiculous for you to bring this up today. Do you still think you are my mother?”

Joshua Hughes’s words were like arrows dipped in poison, shooting directly at Grace Roe.

”I hold five percent of the Hughes Clan’s shares; you know that was your father’s betrothal gift to me. But do you know how that five percent came about? It was a reward from your grandfather to your father when he won his first academic prize, as he was outstanding enough; it was unprecedented in the Hughes Clan, it was your father’s honor. If you don’t return today, then tomorrow I will go to a lawyer to make a gift of the shares, I will give that five percent to your uncle, and I believe you wouldn’t like to see that.”

Grace Roe slowly recounted; she never liked to bring up past matters, because they were all painful.

The decision she made back then seemed wrong no matter what, but today maybe she would make a mistake again?

Looking at her son’s piercingly cold gaze, he stared at her like a bloodthirsty beast, threatening to tear her to pieces.

”You truly disgust me.”

Joshua Hughes said coldly, without a trace of affection or warmth, as if the person in front of him was simply air. Then he turned and walked back to the small building.

”Remember, Joshua, you must move back today.”

Grace Roe knew he wouldn’t defy her.

Because to him, his father was as lofty as the sky, and he wouldn’t want to see his father’s honor fall into someone else’s hands, so in this fight, she had already won.

But this time she had completely lost her son. Perhaps she had always thought that although Joshua Hughes ignored her, he still had feelings for her, even if just a little bit. But this time she saw only coldness, numbness, and disdain in his eyes.

Joshua Hughes felt nauseous, sick to his core; he had never experienced such a feeling before. He staggered and stumbled back up to the second floor, urgently pulling open the room door, seeing the little girl still in a deep slumber, lying there as serene as a white lotus in spring, pure and warm.

He lay down next to her, gently embracing her, as if only thus could his nearly nauseated stomach find some consolation. Her petite body seemed to fit his tall and robust frame as if made just for him.

”I won’t let you go. If I have to return to Inferno, then please accompany me into the Inferno as well.”

Joshua Hughes whispered softly in her ear, his arms gradually tightening around her, as if clutching the world’s most precious gem, not wanting to let go.

The faint, dew-like floral scent emanating from her body wrapped around him with every steady breath in slumber, calming his mind slowly.
