Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”No, there are too many people here.”

Avery Jane lowered her head, her hair falling messily around her cheeks, making her small face appear as lustrous as jade, exuding an alluring sheen.

”They won’t appear, they can’t see us.”

Joshua Hughes took hold of her small hand. She was sitting on the edge of the pool, hesitating to get in, but now she had become much more obedient and didn’t sit as far away from him.

”No.”

Avery still shook her head. She didn’t want to.

How frightening it was; he was a man without restraint, and if she entangled with him like that in the water, she would surely end up being exhausted by him, unable to even walk afterward.

”Come over here and help me relax.”

He didn’t want to force her today, since today she didn’t feel like soaking.

Joshua Hughes closed his eyes, his thin lips parted, ordering her softly.

His head leaned against the side of the pool, and Avery moved a little closer, her delicate white-as-orchid fingers gently pressed on his temples, slowly massaging.

Her fingers were cool and soft, and when they touched his head, it felt incredibly comfortable.

Her fingers moved slowly, making him feel as though he had relaxed from a whole day’s fatigue.

How long had it been since he felt this way, so long it seemed he hadn’t felt this relaxed in his entire life.

Perhaps it was when he was very young, sitting on his father’s shoulders watching the leaves in this courtyard, that he felt such relaxation and peace.

Her hands were very clean, devoid of any scent tainted by the materialistic world, much like his father’s.

Time passed slowly and leisurely, the courtyard was quiet, with leaves rustling as the wind blew: ”Avery, tell me about your past.”

His deep voice carried a magnetic quality, even more charming in the night like this.

”My past? My past is a disaster movie, Mr. Hughes, you wouldn’t be interested in hearing it.”

Avery’s gaze became distant.

When she was fifteen, her last remaining relative, her father, fell ill with a terrible disease. Although he always drank and reminisced about the past, even though he didn’t care for her and wasn’t a responsible father, there were more times when she took care of him.

But he was her father, after all, and when there was no savings at home, she heard that she could try medicine testing, and that way, she could make a lot of money every month.

That day, under such a night, she sat at the entrance of the Wenyard Laboratory.

She waited, trembling all over, until she saw a man dressed in white come out. She gathered all her strength to stand up, her legs numb from that winter cold.

”Sir, do you still need someone for the medicine testing? I can do it, I’m very healthy.”

She seemed to have mustered all the courage she had, standing in front of the gentle and refined man, speaking with her head raised.

She was even smaller then, that year she was fifteen.

”Of course, we need it. Let’s go inside first, the wind is too strong here.”

Avery would always remember the scene when Lucas Yates first brought her to his laboratory.

He handed her a cup of hot milk and brought two delicious cakes, carefully asking why she wanted to become a subject for medicine testing.

At that time, she told him everything, and the gentle man smiled and said, ”Avery, of course, there’s no problem. Send your father to the affiliated hospital of our school, don’t worry about anything.”

Later she found out that Lucas Yates had only given her vitamins; she had not become a test subject.

Although the medicine had undergone tens of thousands of experiments on animals before human testing, using it on humans still held various unknown possibilities.

So Lucas Yates never let her consume it.

In fact, she didn’t take vitamins for long either, and her only relative died.

When she knew nothing, Lucas Yates helped her arrange her father’s funeral, even buying a nice burial plot for her parents, and buried them together.

Later, as she grew up, that elegant and sophisticated man told her under the setting sun, ”Avery, I can’t wait any longer, will you be my girlfriend?”

Her world only had him; he was the sky above her head.

Of course, she was happy to nod, the young little Avery, looking at Lucas Yates as he slowly approached and pressed a kiss on her forehead.
