Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”What’s gotten into you? Why did you ruin my card?”

Avery Jane forcefully broke free from his grip, intending to pick up the card thrown on the ground.

This time, she was truly angry.

It felt like the things that belonged to her were becoming fewer and fewer. This card had been with her for many years, since her school days, and now it was effortlessly broken by him.

Her voice carried a hint of anger, and there seemed to be a small flame flickering in her eyes, blazing brightly.

”I’ll get you a new one if it’s ruined. Whatever you like, I’ll give you,” Joshua Hughes said, holding her tightly as he whispered in her ear.

”Lunatic, you’re a lunatic!”

Avery Jane was trembling with anger, tears slowly welling up in her eyes. Sometimes, life was just like this.

The thing you want is right at your feet. You can bend down and pick it up, but even when it’s so close, you can’t reach it.

Like the happiness always within her reach, she almost caught it, but it vanished in an instant...

Her body was slowly becoming rigid, her thorns began to grow out one by one again. When he held her tightly, those invisible thorns hurt him unbearably, yet he was reluctant to let go.

Over these long years, she seemed to be what he truly wanted to possess.

”Avery Jane, don’t resist me. Be good, I can give you everything.”

He held her even tighter, afraid she would disappear just like that.

The secretary carried a tray with two cups of coffee. Even if she was unwilling to serve that woman, rules had to be followed. Those who could enter the president’s office were all distinguished guests, naturally not to be neglected.

”Avery Jane, don’t think about running away, alright?”

Joshua whispered into her neck, her hair carried a faint fragrance, intoxicating him.

”President Hughes, your coffee...” The secretary pushed open the door, and this scene made her blush and speechless.

Avery Jane, held in his arms, was stunned by the sudden noise.

She forcefully pushed away the man, feeling ashamed beyond words. This man didn’t consider her dignity or face at all.

He was a shameless man, ever since she came to find him last time when he greeted her with just a towel. She should have known no man should be so audacious as to be disheveled in the office, except for one so arrogant.

This damn fool!

Joshua turned around and glared at the secretary, ”If you can’t do your job, go learn properly from the concierge department. Don’t you know you need to knock?”

Transfer her?

The secretary was terrified, her face changed color. She had sacrificed so much to get close to Joshua. If she was sent back without even trying, it would be harder to see him again.

”I’m sorry, President Hughes, I’ll make sure to pay attention next time.” The secretary’s eyes welled up with tears, speaking cautiously, looking truly pitiful.

”Forget it.”

Avery Jane glanced at Joshua Hughes. But can the secretary really be blamed?

It was him who wanted to take advantage of her in the office. She should thank this secretary, for if she hadn’t barged in at that moment, he might have devoured her completely.

”Get out.”

A simple and powerful command, the secretary hurried out as if granted a pardon, secretly thinking, even pleading wouldn’t work. One day, I’ll replace you, her ambition growing in the shadows.

”Let’s go, let’s have dinner.”

The sky had already darkened, and if he kept entangling with her like this, they wouldn’t have dinner tonight, which would surely upset him.

Joshua Hughes smiled wryly as he walked out of the office with Avery Jane in his arms.

Nora Thompson chose a place that was quite elegant. What Joshua Hughes didn’t expect was Nora didn’t come alone; she was accompanied by Abel Chase.

Two bookish types, no matter how high their intelligence, the business world was still a bit too realistic for them. Theories stemmed from practice, but in order to educate, the practical experiences could only showcase their brightness and beauty.

All the clandestine transactions and things that can’t see the light won’t appear in the books.

So, theories come from practice, but theories can’t always be applied to practice.

Nora’s cleverness was not in how beautifully she handled her cases, but in her understanding of the divide between theory and practice, hence her humble inquiries.
