Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”Why didn’t you turn on the lights?” She took off her shoes and changed into slippers at the entrance.

”Is your dad feeling better?” Alexander King gave her a deep look, his eyes carrying faint bluish shadows, indicating she hadn’t slept well either.

”Much better now. Oh, there’s something I need to tell you. I’m going to the company to help my dad because his heart hasn’t been doing well lately. I might often be away from home, and I might not be able to cook for you during this period. How about we hire a maid?”

She used to think of this home as a world for just the two of them; even adding one more person made her uncomfortable. Now she no longer thought this way. There was no ’world for two’; his tenderness and thoughtfulness were all fake.

He didn’t even bother to fulfill his marital duties with her.

It wasn’t that he was giving her time to adjust; it was that he had never thought of wanting her, not even to go through the motions.

Thinking about all this made her feel like the lowest kind of woman, given away for free, yet no one wanted her.

Even though she didn’t often go out to social gatherings, nor had she dated before, it didn’t mean she was an idiot.

”Nora, do you have something on your mind lately?” He couldn’t help but ask.

Nora looked back at him and said calmly, ”Nothing much, it’s just that my dad’s heart isn’t well lately. It might be because of company matters stressing him out, so I’m just a bit worried.”

”If there’s anything you need help with, just let me know. We are husband and wife.”

Alexander King knew very well what was troubling his father-in-law, but what if Nora asked him for help?

After all, the King Clan had better leverage, and coming up with so much cash at once would certainly be a significant issue for her father.

What if Nora really asked him? He looked at her clean face and couldn’t help but wonder if he’d soften and agree.

”It’s okay, this is something I can handle. Thank you, I’m going to rest.” Nora said lightly, her face still carrying a faint smile.

Alexander felt things were the same, yet different. She didn’t even sit beside him to talk, and she said she could handle it.

Wasn’t his wife like a noblewoman from ancient times? How could she handle those deceitful businessmen?

He increasingly found her incomprehensible. Had he not noticed her before, or did she hide herself so well that she only now began to reveal it?

Looking at her tightly closed door, his deep and sharp gaze felt like a knife, wanting to cut open the door and see what the woman inside was doing.

Could she sleep peacefully on such a restless night?

The phone ring broke the night’s silence. His slender fingers gracefully slid across the phone screen. ”Liet, you haven’t come to see me for days. Are you very busy? I miss you like crazy.”

The woman’s coquettish voice, usually arousing, felt excessively pretentious in the quiet of the night.

”You shouldn’t be calling at this time.”

This woman was indeed daring, forgetting her place. His cold tone was clear enough even over the phone for Jade Willow to sense his displeasure.

”No, Liet, I just miss you, miss you everywhere.”

She meant it; he had spoiled her.

Hearing her old female classmates talk about the event at the reunion made her realize their boyfriends or husbands were quick compared to Alexander.

Her man was one in a million, in every way.

Such a quiet night made her desperately miss every night he came over, where he could easily drive her to madness, begging for mercy.

”Don’t call again.” Coldly hanging up the phone, he realized she was standing by her door.

The large white robe dragged long across the floor, making her appear even more petite and delicate.

”I just came out to get a glass of water.”

Nora looked into Alexander’s deep eyes staring at her, deep like an ocean, making her lose her bearings. She was just a traveler lost at sea.

Avoiding his eyes, she walked to the kitchen counter, picked up a cup, poured herself a glass of water, and returned to her room.

Alexander looked at the phone. How much had she heard?

Would she overthink it?

A thought suddenly leaped into his mind without warning, like a sudden clap of thunder during startling, exploding in his mind. When did he start caring about how she thought of him?

In previous sleepless nights, she would curl up in the corner of the sofa with a book, but on such a sleepless night, he couldn’t calm his mind.

His wife must be an exceptionally determined person; something must have happened.

Until the sky gradually brightened, his mind, as if glued, was filled with only one thought.
