Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Song Shijun and the others’ jaws dropped. It took them a moment before they could exclaim, ”What?”

Song Shijun even jumped to his feet. ”Who would’ve thought! Wow.”

”That’s just too amazing.”

”Yeah, seriously! What’s the principle behind it? How can you compress the exterior of a twenty-cubic-meter space into one cubic meter?”

Xie Ning blinked. ”How would simpletons like you possibly understand? Even I don’t know!”

Shijun pouted. ”Sis, is that Dimensional Space useful?”

”What do you think?” Captain Xie smiled and decided to humble-brag again. ”I have two Dimensional Spaces. One is mainly for storing all sorts of fish, shrimp, crabs, and other aquatic products.”

”The other I use as a warehouse for my personal ’shop,’ where I can store any equipment, tools, and so on that I find worthy.”

This time, it wasn’t just Shijun Baby who was left speechless with his mouth hanging open; everyone else was completely dumbfounded as well.

”Silly brother, do you even need to ask?” Song Kexin slapped Song Shijun on his big head.

”Of course it’s useful! And it’s a three-dimensional Dimensional Space that’s completely transparent, with a 360-degree view and no blind spots!”

Song Kexin was practically drooling. ”Twenty cubic meters can hold so, so many fish, shrimp, and crabs. I’m craving fried prawns now.”

”Eat, eat, eat, eat, eat! All you think about all day is eating!” Song Youzhi grumbled at his daughter.

Xie Ning burst out laughing. ”Alright, alright. If you’ve got nothing better to do, go do your homework. And later, make sure you all train your superpowers properly. Your progress has stagnated lately. Aren’t you worried? Get to it.”

Song Shijun silently shut his mouth and grabbed a book, pretending to read.

Xie Ning, however, picked up Little Spider—who was lying on its back, staring blankly at the ceiling—and ambled toward the kitchen. ”Aunt Cen.”

”Oh, yes! I’ll start on the congee in a little bit.” Cen Yun turned to her with a smile, wiping her hands on her apron.

”There’s no rush. Rest a bit before you start. Two buckets should be about enough,” Xie Ning said with a smile.

”Okay, okay.” Cen Yun nodded repeatedly.

”Or I can come help you with it in a bit.”

Cen Yun quickly waved her hands, smiling. ”I’m not tired, Captain Xie. This little bit of work is nothing compared to what I used to do. It’s a breeze. You don’t have to be so formal with me.”

”I can handle it. There’s no need for you to help.”

Xie Ning felt a little embarrassed by how formal Aunt Cen was being, so she quickly changed the subject. ”How is Xiao Fei doing? Is her appetite okay? Make sure she eats her meals and drinks her milk every day.”

”Yes, yes, she’s eating. Her appetite has started to improve recently,” Cen Yun said, her face lighting up. ”I really have to thank you all, Captain Xie. You take such wonderful care of Xiao Fei.”

”Not at all. Xiao Fei and our Yueyue are classmates. Don’t be such a stranger by talking about ’taking care’ of her; it’s what we should do. From now on, Aunt Cen, just call me by my name.”

Cen Yun secretly wiped away a tear. In all her time since the apocalypse began, she had rarely been shown such kindness.

’Captain Xie made it sound simple, but in this world, there was no such thing as what one ”should” or ”shouldn’t” do.’

’It was all because everyone in the Starfire Team, from top to bottom, was kind-hearted. Cen Yun understood this well.’

’In an era where people couldn’t even fill their stomachs, forget a mere classmate—even blood relatives might turn on each other for a mouthful of food.’

Cen Yun was secretly thankful that she and her daughter had been able to meet teammates like these in their lifetime.

When the others saw the young woman leave, they all secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Song Kexin stuck out her tongue. ”My sister is a Devil of a coach.”

Song Shijun nodded in profound agreement. ”She’s the one who whipped us all into shape!”

”Alright, stop wasting your time here. Get to it. Your sister’s right to tell you to practice your superpowers more. This apocalypse is unpredictable; who knows when you’ll be needed on the front lines again.”

”Agh!” the two siblings groaned in unison.

Song You’ai had to stifle a laugh watching them. She stepped forward to mediate. ”Alright, alright, just let the two little ones rest for a bit. They can train later.”

”Eldest Sis, don’t be so protective of them. We all know what these two little rascals are like. If you don’t kick them, they don’t move. You have to give them a few kicks to get them going!”

”Dad!” Song Kexin wailed. ”When have I ever been lazy with my training? My superpower is improving really fast now! Sis even praised me for it before!”

Song Shijun shot her a sideways glance. ”When did Sis ever praise you? Has she?”

”Of course she did! It was when we were having a private sister-to-sister chat!” Song Kexin lifted her chin and huffed. ”My sis said my talent is superb and my aptitude is outstanding! That I’m a once-in-a-generation talent!”

”Really?” Song Youzhi gave his daughter a skeptical look.

’Those words didn’t sound like something his eldest niece would say!’

Song You’ai burst into laughter. ”Ah, Xinxin, no wonder you’ve been so confident lately. So you’re the one with the second-best innate talent on our team.”

”Exactly! That’s just how my sis praised me.” Song Kexin wagged a finger, looking smug. ”Let me tell you, when it comes to practicing superpowers, diligence is one thing, but what really matters is talent!”
