Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

’He knew it. These old fossils just weren’t used to the new ideas and policies he’d brought back from his studies in Country A.

They just loved following the same old beaten path.

Never using their brains for anything!

What era was it now? Did they still think this was the age of millet and rifles?

They were always so rigid and conventional, sticking to the old ways, never changing a thing, and refusing to accept new things or ideas.

And they called themselves a special operations team! It was precisely because of these old, decrepit ideas that their hands were always tied, leaving them unable to do anything right.

In some advanced regions now, even warfare was just a matter of moving a finger or saying a word. They had combat Mechas handle everything.

But them? They spent all day studying impractical strategies and tactics, and even ridiculously pored over *The Art of War*.

What damn use was that piece of junk? It was all just rotten, feudal rubbish.

Does modern society need this stuff?

Take the system A Country People have, for example. Their free mechanism is very effective. You don’t need to worry about a thing; freedom is enough.

In Country A, if the masses dared to resist those with guns like this, they would’ve been shot to pieces long ago.

These troublesome commoners, all talk and no action. When trouble actually starts, they’re useless.

If you’re so tough, why don’t you go fight the zombies on the city walls?

People from Country C were real experts at pitting classes against each other.’ A hint of ridicule flashed in Yang Yiling’s eyes.

’He couldn’t stand this kind of political maneuvering from the people of Country C.

Especially people like Gu Chen. He had been so close to resolving this chaotic situation, about to quell the conflict and have everything settled.

But then, that shameless bastard Gu Chen and his crew had to stick their noses in, showing up to steal his credit.

It was the same thing last time at the Tongjiang Tunnel.

His men were on the verge of victory, but then Gu Chen showed up with a group of people, claiming to be ”cleaning up the mess,” and ended up taking all of his subordinates away.

And the worst part was, they’d pinned the blame on him, Yang Yiling, for incompetent command and strategic failure. They’d laid the deaths of all the sacrificed brothers at his feet, making it seem like he’d killed them himself!

It was infuriating!

Even now, just thinking about it, Yang Yiling still couldn’t get over it.

”Captain Yang, calm down, calm down.” Seeing the dark look on his face and his prolonged silence, Assistant Hu hurried over to smooth things over.

”Captain Gu and his men are here to handle the problem. This can’t be allowed to escalate,” Assistant Hu said in a low voice. ”The repercussions are too severe, and it’s deeply hurting the feelings of the masses.”

’To be honest, his heart had just been about to leap out of his chest.

If it weren’t for Mr. Yang’s sake, he would have loved to tear into this Yang Yiling in front of him.

What kind of damn mess was this? Was there anyone who stirred up trouble like him?

Before, it was just the masses complaining that Superpower Users got better treatment than ordinary people. They just wanted to talk to the people in charge.

How should he put it? This kind of envy and jealousy was only human nature.

All they needed to do was talk a little and calm the crowd down, right?

But no, Yang Yiling, the one who’d returned from abroad, always had to argue with them about Country A’s system of management.

Every time there was a disagreement in theory or command, he would start spouting all that nonsense, giving everyone a headache. It made you want to punch him.

Captain Gu usually didn’t bother with Yang Yiling. If he hadn’t dragged them over this time, Gu Chen and his team wouldn’t have wanted to meet with Yang Yiling at all.

Now that the two of them had met, it was like sparks flying. They couldn’t stand the sight of each other.

Fortunately, Gu Chen continued to ignore the bull-like Yang Yiling and turned to give orders to the people behind him, ”Pull apart everyone who’s fighting. If you can’t pull them apart, cuff them together.”

Wang Bingwu and the others were well-trained. Without needing any further orders from Gu Chen, they moved forward on their own and completely separated the two sides.

A few troublemakers tried to keep fighting, but Zhai Ruobai doused them from head to toe with a ball of water, cooling them off completely...

After dousing the man, Zhai Ruobai looked at him with a grin. ”Feeling a bit more clear-headed now?”

”Stand straight!” Wang Bingwu grabbed a member of Group B, dragged him aside like a chick, and tossed him. ”You had plenty of energy for fighting just now. What’s wrong, slumping over like you haven’t eaten?”

”You were all so eager to fight, weren’t you? What’s the matter now? Can’t even lift your heads?”

No one dared to make a sound, each of them lowering their heads.

”Who started it?” Gu Chen asked in a cold voice.

Everyone immediately pointed at the other side, like a flock of angry roosters, without a moment’s hesitation.

”You people in management have the nerve to point at us?!” A young man, unable to contain his anger, cursed loudly, ”It was clearly you guys who rushed in and started hitting people indiscriminately! And now you have the nerve to point at us? What are you pointing at?”

They were a group of hot-blooded youths. One person shouted and many others chimed in, and the scene immediately grew noisy again.

”All of you, shut up!” Gu Chen’s cold voice instantly suppressed everyone’s defiant arrogance.

Although the ordinary people didn’t understand why, they inexplicably felt that this young captain had a very oppressive aura.

The many Superpower Users, however, could clearly feel the powerful pressure a High-level Superpower User was exerting on the ordinary Superpower Users.

”Captain, I... I want to report them! They started it, it was them! They hit first.” From the crowd, a middle-aged woman weakly raised her hand and shouted, ”We didn’t even know what was happening.”

”That’s right! It was the management who led the patrol team in and started the fight.”

”And now they dare to turn around and blame us for fighting back? Do they think we common folk are easy to bully?”

”You call yourselves common folk? When you were fighting the patrol team just now, I saw that every single one of you was remarkably agile. Not a single one of you is ordinary,” Yang Yiling sneered.

”You shut up,” Zhai Ruobai snapped at him irritably.

”Why should I shut up?” Yang Yiling’s face instantly flushed red, as if he had been humiliated by Zhai Ruobai, and he wore a furious expression.

”Zhai Ruobai, do you know who you’re talking to? With that attitude of yours...”

”Shut up, Young Master Yang,” Gu Chen cut him off impatiently, gesturing at the scene before them. ”How are you going to clean up this mess?”

”Who told you to take matters into your own hands and bring the patrol team here to beat people up?”

”What did I do wrong?” Yang Yiling glared at Gu Chen, his face full of anger. ”I admit, we originally just came here to mediate. But who knew that as soon as we walked in, we’d see them swarming together, clearly looking to cause trouble.”

”You, mediate? You mediate by bringing a gang of people and threatening to use your superpower on them?” Zhai Ruobai looked at him with utter disdain and sneered. ”Why are you still pretending? You just brought people here for absolute suppression, to show off your power.”

”Zhai Ruobai, what did you say?!” Yang Yiling flew into a rage out of shame, wishing he could charge forward and fight a life-or-death battle with this annoying loudmouth.

Gu Chen pushed aside the charging Yang Yiling and turned to order the others, ”Go get a count of the injured and send them all to the medical bay.”

”You will take full responsibility for this incident!”
