Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

”Captain Gu, I’ll apologize to Miss Xie on Jeri’s behalf right now. We admit defeat! Could you please ask Captain Xie to stop? If this goes on, Jeri will end up with brain damage, won’t he?”

Gu Chen blinked. ”It’s not that exaggerated, is it? We’re all Superpower Users, not ordinary people.”

”Are Gold Ability Users’ defenses really this weak?”

”Exactly. Gold Ability Users are known worldwide as versatile Superpower Users, capable of both offense and defense.”

”Mr. Li Weide, please don’t panic. Why don’t you contact a few more Healing Ability Users to come over?” Lu Wei suggested politely. ”After all, they’re just external injuries. Treating them shouldn’t be a big problem.”

Everyone: ...

Xie Ning finished her brutal assault on his head. She straightened her posture, let out a long breath, and drew all the surging Gold Element power from around her back into her body.

”Exchange complete.” Xie Ning turned her head, waved at Gu Chen. ”I’m off.”

Everyone could hardly bear to look at the ”corpse” half-slumped on the ground.

Jeri’s black-and-blue, swollen face probably didn’t look much better than the rotting corpses outside...

When a Healing Ability User from Country A rushed over and saw Jeri in this state, they couldn’t help but jump in fright.

”What happened here?”

Wang Gangfei couldn’t help but roar at them, ”What are you staring at! Hurry up and heal him!”

”Captain Xie, please wait.”

Xie Ning stopped in her tracks, turned, and looked at Li Weide with a beaming smile. ”What? The A Country Branch of the Global Superpower Academy wants to continue this ’exchange’ with us? Cres.”

”Yep, yep, I’m here.” Cres raised his hand and sprinted to her side. ”Who’s next?”

Li Weide: ...

’With this attitude, there’s just no way to keep communicating with them.’

”Captain Xie, perhaps I should just get straight to the point.” Li Weide smoothed his expression, hurried in front of Xie Ning, and said in a low voice, ”Our Global Superpower Academy is actually very sincere in its invitation for Captain Xie to join.”

”Not interested.”

Li Weide choked, nearly unable to catch his breath.

”You could at least listen to the terms we’re offering! Don’t be so quick to refuse!”

Cres stepped between the two, put his hands on his hips, and shouted, ”Weren’t you here for a sparring exchange? You’re trying to poach our leader! Hey, you’ve got some nerve!”

”Oh, my God,” Yuan clamored from behind his young master. ”How can the Global Superpower Academy poach someone right to their face? If they poach our captain, what will become of us?”

”Exactly! What will become of us? We’ll be begging on the streets! And you, with your flapping gums, just want to poach our captain. If our captain leaves, what do we do? Live on air? Just wait to die?”

Li Weide: ...

Everyone: ...

’What’s with them? Can’t they survive without their Captain Xie?’

’So what good is this team of the old, weak, and useless? Besides eating, all they can do is shout, right?’

”How outrageous!” Yuan straightened his back, stood behind his young master, and said with an indignant expression, ”What you’re doing is so inhumane! How can you poach someone to their face, doing something so shameless and improper?”

”Just get lost!” Cres waved his hand dismissively, clearly displeased. ”Stop daydreaming about poaching our captain all day long. What kind of wishful thinking is that?”

Amidst the clamor, Li Weide managed to force out a sentence, ”We can continue to negotiate...”

”Negotiate, my ass!”

”Are all of you in the Starfire Team useless trash? What, you can’t survive without your captain?” the muscle-bound man cursed with a look of displeasure. ”Shameless fools!”

He spoke broken Country C, and everyone strained to understand him.

Even so, Cres and the others understood. Their faces filled with anger as they glared at the muscle-bound man. ”What did you say?”

”You punk, say that again!”

”Feeling pretty pleased with yourself, huh? Who are you calling useless trash?” Cres roared.

”At most, we’re just salted fish! Not useless trash!” Housekeeper Yuan nodded emphatically behind his young master and roared.

Everyone: ...

Song Shijun slapped his forehead and couldn’t help but turn away.

’I can’t listen to this anymore.’

Xie Ning, expressionless, gave a light cough. ”Everyone, stop arguing.”

”What does ’salted fish’ mean?” the muscle-bound man asked Li Weide, beads of anxious sweat forming on his forehead. ”Mr. Li Weide, are they cursing us?!”

”You useless trash!” Yuan shouted angrily. ”What’s with that broken Country C of yours? Just stop talking! You don’t even understand ’salted fish,’ so we’re clearly not on the same wavelength! Shut up.”

”Mr. Li Weide.” The muscle-bound man already had trouble understanding Country C’s language. With Yuan rattling off such a long string of words, he didn’t understand a single thing...

”You, shut up!” Li Weide’s head was already throbbing. He didn’t want to waste any more time talking nonsense with this big oaf.

”Captain Xie Ning, regarding the matter of joining, we can sit down and discuss the details. For example, we could also accept your salted fish... oh, no, all the Superpower Users of the Starfire Team. We’d give them the same excellent treatment. Wouldn’t that kill two birds with one stone?”

”Didn’t I already tell you I’m not interested?” Xie Ning waved her hand impatiently. ”Stop blabbering.”

’In her past life, in order to learn skills and speed up the advancement of her superpower, she had desperately wanted to join this Superpower Academy.’

’Now, she could extract Crystal Cores to create Energy Balls. She had her own unique system for Cultivation and replenishment. She no longer needed the Superpower Academy’s instruction.’

’Heck, if she wanted, if she just asked, the base’s high command would be lining up to personally deliver precious training videos into her hands.’

’Why would she need to go to all the trouble of joining this so-called academy?’

’Hilarious.’

Xie Ning smiled as she looked at them, but her gaze was icy and resolute, filled with an indescribable mockery.

’As the saying goes, there’s no need to gild the lily.’

’When she had nothing, she would remember a lifeline tossed her way for the rest of her life.’

’But now, she didn’t need a thing.’

”What can you give me?” Xie Ning waved her hand dismissively. ”Supplies? Medical care? Or something else? Energy Supplement Potions? Advanced Crystal Cores? Superior equipment or rare resources? Sorry, but I don’t need any of it.”

”Since you don’t want to continue this ’exchange,’ then let’s leave it at that. We’re leaving.”

Cres snorted. ”Don’t follow us again.”

’Such annoying people.’

’Always trying to poach our captain, day in and day out.’

’This time it’s even more ridiculous. They even wanted to poach us ’salted fish’ just to fill a quota.’

’Aren’t they just trying to bait the captain into taking the hook?’

’If we all went to that what’s-it-called Superpower Academy, wouldn’t the Starfire Team be torn apart?’

’No way!’

’The Starfire Team is the number one team at the base now. How could we let ourselves be poached just like that?’

’It would be so undignified!’

Gu Chen, Lu Wei, and the others smiled, and smiled, and smiled again at Li Weide and Wang Gangfei, then turned and followed.

”Could those smiles be any faker?” Wang Gangfei fumed.

”Mr. Li Weide, what should we do now? That Xie Ning, she absolutely refuses to listen to our persuasion.”

Li Weide took a deep breath. ”We were a bit too hasty. No need to rush. Time will prove everything.”
