Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Xie Ning grabbed a pair of clean medical gloves and slapped them hard against the red-haired kid’s chest. ”Put them on. Don’t let me catch you chatting with Yu Tianfeng again. From now on, stay far away from him.”

”If I see you looking for him again, I’ll beat you every single time. Got it?”

Abbot nodded vigorously. He wouldn’t dare say he didn’t understand at a time like this.

”I can’t stand treacherous little schemers like you. It’s ’friend’ this and ’friend’ that, but to you, friends are just something to be sold out.”

”You cozy up when there’s something to gain, then sell them out the second there isn’t!” Xie Ning kicked him and ordered coldly, ”Get to it. Heal him, then get lost!”

Abbot knew he had seriously offended the Sixth-rank powerhouse this time. Not daring to waste another word, he ducked his head, shuffled past her, and hurried over to the semi-conscious Yu Xiaofei.

He had just finished putting on the gloves when he saw Xie Ning sauntering over, making him so nervous that his hands started to shake.

Xie Ning, holding a Metal Knife, tapped it stylishly against Abbot’s back. A wide smile spread across her face. ”Heal him properly, kid. Don’t try pulling any more tricks. I see right through your petty little schemes, understand?”

”I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare.” How could Abbot possibly pull any more stunts in front of this powerhouse?

He was scared half to death!

He had almost lost half his life just now. How could he possibly dare to try anything now?

Besides, out of respect for Yu Tianfeng, he hadn’t wanted to make things difficult for the little girl in the first place.

It was mainly because Mr. Li Weide had personally made the request, and he couldn’t refuse him.

Things have ended up in this state. Mr. Li Weide himself is probably regretting it quite a bit.

They were here to befriend a powerhouse, not to make an enemy!

Who knew how this apocalypse would evolve? After all, having a Sixth-rank Superpower User as a friend would be an extra guarantee for the future.

But now, it was all ruined...

Abbot took a deep breath, put on the medical gloves with trembling hands, and took Yu Xiaofei’s right hand.

A steady stream of superpower energy began to flow.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Su Xiyue, who was holding Yu Xiaofei’s other hand, suddenly had a flicker of light in her eyes. She stared at Yu Xiaofei’s body with a peculiar expression.

Xie Ning had her entire spiritual power focused on Abbot while simultaneously monitoring Li Weide, Wang Gangfei, and the others behind her, so she missed the strange look on her younger sister’s face.

However, Lin Yiyi, who stood beside them and had watched the entire spectacular show from start to finish, was paying attention not only to Xie Ning but also to Yu Xiaofei and Su Xiyue.

Noticing Su Xiyue’s expression, she furrowed her brow slightly.

Although she didn’t know what was up with Su Xiyue, it gave her a strange feeling.

Lin Yiyi felt on edge, and a sense of unease inexplicably sprouted within her.

Half an hour later, Abbot, his face a little pale, carefully turned his head to glance at Xie Ning.

Xie Ning had already had someone bring over a small stool and was personally sitting beside the poor sap Abbot, supervising his work.

Seeing the kid’s sickly complexion, she couldn’t help but sneer in disgust. ”You need to train more, you know? I could take down eighty weakling Healing Ability Users like you with three punches.”

As she spoke, she gave Abbot a light pat. The red-haired kid fell to the ground with a THUD.

Doctor Fang could barely look. He silently turned away and went back to his own business.

Having claimed she could take down eighty Healing Ability Users with three punches—a boast that rolled off her tongue without a second thought—and finished tormenting the red-haired pretty boy, Xie Ning rose expressionlessly and turned to Doctor Fang.

Doctor Fang didn’t even need her to say a word. He quickly called a few young nurses over to carry Yu Xiaofei to the treatment room next door.

”Don’t worry, the little girl will be fine. It’s mainly due to malnutrition. She just needs more protein, like eggs, milk...” Doctor Fang trailed off, suddenly remembering that these things were now scarce resources. He couldn’t help but sigh.

”Just have her eat more,” he amended. ”The child is resilient. She’ll get better after a while. Make sure she gets plenty of rest and doesn’t get too tired.”

”Thank you, Doctor, thank you.” Yu Xiaofei’s mother thanked him over and over, her eyes brimming with tears. She then turned, grabbed Xie Ning’s hand, and said haltingly, ”Ms. Yueyue, thank you so, so much. I don’t even know what to say.”

”Ms. Yueyue, Yueyue, I... I don’t have any special skills, but I’m a hard worker. I can do anything. If there’s ever anything you need done, just say the word. I can do it, really. This old lady has plenty of strength! I mean it.”

Xie Ning looked the woman with her chapped skin and dark-complexioned face up and down, then suddenly asked, ”How’s your cooking?”

...

Yu Tianfeng walked out of the laboratory. Just as he took off his sweat-drenched white coat, two base personnel hurried over, carrying a long, rectangular glass container. ”Dr. Yu, Dr. Xie and the others ask that you join them in the conference room.”

Yu Tianfeng washed his hands several times with soap. Only after disinfecting them did he pull out a clean handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his brow. ”What’s happened?”

As he spoke, he sized up the glass container they were carrying in. ”What’s wrong with this person?”

Inside the container lay a base patrolman, his eyes shut tight, apparently in a deep coma.

”The situation is pretty bad.” Wei Zhengtong came running from the room next door, clutching a few folders. He glanced at the glass container. ”Get him into the lab and seal it up first.”

”Xiao Yu, come here, quick.” Wei Zhengtong beckoned to him. ”Command just sent over a few people. We’ve extracted different toxin samples from them. You need to come take a look.”

”This sandstorm has been blowing for three to five days without stopping. Today, someone suddenly collapsed out in it.”

Yu Tianfeng froze. He had been in the lab for two days and was completely unaware the situation with the sandstorm had changed.

”Dr. Wei, are you saying the sandstorm contains toxins?”

”We can’t be certain yet whether the sandstorm is the problem or if it’s something else,” a white-haired elder spoke up.

”We need to conduct further research to understand what’s really going on.”

”What’s the word from Dr. Xie?”

”He’s still in the sealed lab and hasn’t come out. Everyone, let’s head into the meeting. We need to share what we know and compare notes.”

At the same time, a base patrolman burst into Gu Chen’s office, rushing inside. ”Captain, the Secretary-General sent someone. Everyone is to assemble in the conference room.”

Gu Chen had just been about to ask his girlfriend to grab a bite to eat, but as usual, something came up.

Naturally, he was in a foul mood.

He hadn’t seen his girlfriend for two whole days, yet work just kept piling up.

”What now?”

”It looks like we’ve received an urgent distress call from Gushang Base.”

Gu Chen paused for a moment. Just as he was heading out, he saw Lu Wei and Zhai Ruobai hurrying over.

”To the main conference room.” Gu Chen rubbed his forehead. ”And by the way, find out if the disciplinary action for Yang Yiling has come down yet.”
