Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

”You just said Yu Tianfeng found a Healer from Country A to treat your classmate?”

Su Xiyue nodded hurriedly, answering earnestly, ”Tianfeng seems to know that Healing Ability User very well. They’re probably friends.”

Xie Ning blinked. ”I haven’t seen Yu Tianfeng around these past two days.”

”He got dragged to the medical bay to help. He’s been spinning like a top every day, super busy.”

Xie Ning nodded. It wasn’t that she was petty, but they had just recently slapped the face of the Global Superpower Academy’s A Country Branch. For a Healing Ability User from Country A to suddenly appear now... ’It felt strange,’ she thought, ’a bit too deliberate.’

”Let’s go, Yueyue. We’ll go check on your classmate.”

”Yay!” Su Xiyue swung Xie Ning’s hand, walking happily toward the door.

”I’ll go with...” Before Song Kexin could finish, her father shut her down with a merciless swat.

”Go where? You’re not even as smart as Yueyue. You nearly led your sister astray.” Song Youzhi yelled at her. ”Stay home and help your grandma make dumplings. Stop hopping all over the place all day and never being home.”

Song Kexin: ???

Xie Ning pushed the door open and left, just in time to make eye contact with an excited Ji Taixian who was running in.

”Hi, Ms. Ning!” Ji Taixian’s whole body tensed up as he stood at attention and shouted.

Xie Ning, expressionless, led Su Xiyue—who was covering her mouth to hide her giggles—out the door. Ji Taixian slowly relaxed his expression, grinning as he carried a basin inside.

”Xinxin, look what delicious... thing I brought for you.” Ji Taixian’s voice trailed off. Mainly, it was because he met the eyes of Xinxin’s father—eyes as big as bronze bells—and his bravado couldn’t help but deflate.

Song Kexin clutched her head and rushed forward, grabbing Ji Taixian and dragging him toward the kitchen. ”My dad wants you to help Grandma make dumplings.”

”Oh, Grandma! I’ll help make them!”

The two of them dove headfirst into the kitchen, and immediately, a series of CRASHES and BANGS could be heard.

The old lady’s robust voice echoed out, ”Aiyo! What are you two doing in here? Just making a mess! Out, out, get out!”

Xie Ning led Su Xiyue on a stroll. Everyone they passed greeted them with a smile, showing the most sincere and friendly attitude.

”Big Sis, what should I say when I see Lin Yiyi?” Su Xiyue asked in a low voice. ”Mm, I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my intuition.”

”Back in school, I never thought there was anything weird about Lin Yiyi, but ever since... we ran into her at the base.”

Su Xiyue’s voice paused, and she couldn’t help but sigh. ”I don’t know if it’s my imagination, but it feels like she’s changed so much.”

”Or maybe... every one of us has changed a lot since the apocalypse,” Su Xiyue murmured. ”Big Sis, do you know what I mean?”

Xie Ning nodded and squeezed Su Xiyue’s hand. ”You have to trust your ability. Since you can communicate with animals after the apocalypse, it means your spiritual power is definitely beyond that of an ordinary person.”

”People with strong spiritual power, how should I put it... they have a certain degree of perception when it comes to danger.”

”So, this feeling of yours might not be wrong at all.”

”It’s not that Lin Yiyi has changed too much since the apocalypse. It’s that she, as a person, is dangerous. You’ve sensed it subconsciously, so you don’t want to get close to her.”

It was a moment of epiphany for Su Xiyue. She nodded with a serious expression. ”Big Sis, I think you’re right.”

”Then, later... is it okay if I don’t talk to Lin Yiyi?” Su Xiyue said softly. ”Would that be rude?”

Xie Ning reached out and patted the girl’s head. ”You kids think too much. In the future, if there’s someone you don’t want to deal with, just don’t deal with them. You don’t have to overthink it.”

Xie Ning clenched her fists. ”As long as we’re strong enough, we can avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble for ourselves.”

Su Xiyue nodded emphatically. ”Okay.”

The two sisters walked down the glass corridor, swiping through several electronic security doors, and finally arrived at the upper level.

”Look, Yueyue.” Xie Ning gently tugged Su Xiyue’s hand.

Su Xiyue had already seen it.

Through the glass of the electronic security door, a familiar, thin figure was negotiating with the two patrol guards standing watch.

The electronic door was well soundproofed. From the other side, they couldn’t hear what Lin Yiyi was saying, only see her agitated expression, looking like she was desperate to grab one of the soldiers’ sleeves.

”Miss, we’ve already explained it to you. Why won’t you listen? We can’t just let anyone through here. You must have the access code.”

”Or if you can pass the facial scan, then go through yourself.”

How could Lin Yiyi possibly pass the facial scan?

She was seething with frustration, her expression flickering between anger and gloom.

Xie Ning led her sister through the electronic security door. After the two glass panels slid open automatically, they heard Lin Yiyi shouting, ”I’m the deskmate of Captain Xie from the Starfire Team’s sister, okay? I have something urgent to discuss with my deskmate. Can you please not block my way? If you keep stopping me, someone is really going to die!”

Xie Ning calmly watched the anxious Lin Yiyi, looking her up and down. ”Someone’s going to die? A human life is at stake, you know. That’s a major issue.”

Lin Yiyi’s tugging motion stopped abruptly, and she whipped her head around.

She saw Xie Ning, dressed in a casual sweatshirt, standing at the entrance holding Su Xiyue’s hand. A mocking smile was on her face as she stared coolly at her.

This teasing attitude caused the anger that Lin Yiyi had just barely managed to suppress to explode, rushing straight to her head.

She bit her lip, holding back again and again, and ruthlessly suppressed the fury in her heart. She took a quick step forward. ”Yueyue, what took you so long? Hurry, come with me and see. That Yu Xiaofei is about to die.”

”Die? How could he be dying??” Su Xiyue, who originally hadn’t wanted to speak with Lin Yiyi, was thrown into a panic by her shout.

’Impossible!’

’The day before yesterday, she and Ms. Ke Xin had watched the Healer from Country A treat Yu Xiaofei. He was already able to open his eyes back then.’

’Although his body was still very weak, after two days of recuperation, his condition couldn’t have possibly gotten worse, unless...’

’The Healer is the problem!’

’But he’s Tianfeng’s friend, isn’t he?’

’How could Tianfeng possibly befriend a problematic Healer?’

”Why don’t you believe me?” Lin Yiyi stomped her feet repeatedly and took a deep breath. ”Just come with me and you’ll see.”

Seeing her step forward to grab Su Xiyue’s hand, the experienced Xie Ning blocked her with a faint smile. ”Lead the way. We’ll go have a look together.”

Lin Yiyi’s outstretched hand was blocked, and she resentfully pulled it back, clenching it into a fist at her side.

She summoned her courage to look up at Xie Ning, trying to meet her abyss-like, dark, shining eyes. ”Captain Xie, do you have some sort of problem with me? You can just say it. You don’t have to be so cautiously on guard against me.”

”I was Su Xiyue’s deskmate for a year and a half. No matter how you look at it, we’re acquaintances. There’s no need for this.”

”Every time you see me, you have this attitude. Don’t you think that’s a problem?”

”Yes, you’re a High-level superpower user, but what right do you have to look down on people?”
