Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Xie Ning shot her an amused glance. ”A kid is a kid. How can you accomplish anything important when you’re so impatient?”

Lin Yiyi gritted her teeth. ”I’m not a kid anymore!”

Xie Ning ignored her, taking Su Xiyue by the hand and starting to walk. ”Where is your classmate?”

”I settled the mother and daughter in the lobby over here earlier. We can go straight over and see them.”

”Okay, don’t worry. We’ll figure out the situation after we take a look. There’s nothing that can’t be solved.”

”Xie Ning, did you not understand what I said? Yu Xiaofei is critically ill! What is the meaning of this?”

Lin Yiyi trotted after them, trying to grab Su Xiyue’s hand. ”Yueyue, we were deskmates and best friends for a year and a half! Are you just going to let your cousin treat me like this?”

”I was just talking to her. Was that polite?” Lin Yiyi was about to explode with anger. This felt awful.

’What is Xie Ning doing?’

’Is she completely ignoring me?!’

’And Su Xiyue isn’t helping me at all. Some deskmate and friend she is. She’s changed. Everyone’s changed.’

’It’s only been a little over a year, but nothing is the same as it was before.’

”If she’s critically ill, shouldn’t we be going to see her?” Xie Ning turned, frowning at Lin Yiyi, who had repeatedly tried to stop her and Su Xiyue.

”Lin Yiyi, I should be asking you what you mean. What are you trying to do by blocking our way over and over? You haven’t done something to feel guilty about, have you?”

Lin Yiyi was absolutely livid!

She couldn’t believe that Xie Ning would slander her like this right in front of Su Xiyue.

’She’s such a cold and heartless woman.’

’Not like Xu Yu and Zhuang Lei. Even when the rest of the Swift Leopard Team had their issues with me, they were at least a little more polite, since they saw me as just a kid.’

’I’m young, so I should have special privileges, right?’

’But Xie Ning... she doesn’t seem to want to give me any face at all. She’s completely impervious to reason.’

Su Xiyue glanced back at the fuming Lin Yiyi and thought she seemed rather... pushy and shortsighted, in a way that was hard to describe.

Sighing, Su Xiyue opened her mouth but didn’t say anything.

’After all, Lin Yiyi is still young. In front of my experienced cousin, she has nowhere to hide.’

’All her convoluted schemes are laid bare before my cousin, and she doesn’t even realize it.’

Su Xiyue pointed ahead. ”Sis, they’re right there. Let’s go have a look.”

Xie Ning nodded and led Su Xiyue straight ahead.

Many people were sitting or standing in the sofa area. When some Superpower Users saw Xie Ning approach, they quickly stood up, nodding respectfully in greeting.

”Captain Xie.”

”Hello, Captain Xie.”

”Captain Xie, if you need anything, just say the word.”

Everyone was beaming as they looked at her, and many came forward to exchange a few pleasantries.

Most of them were very tactful, worried that being overly enthusiastic would make them seem insincere in front of Xie Ning.

A few chattered endlessly beside her, but they were soon pulled aside by others with more sense to keep them from blocking the way.

”Captain Xie, are you here on business?”

”Visiting a friend,” Xie Ning replied with a faint nod, pointing to a corner of the sofa area.

”Oh, oh.” Everyone turned to look, whispering and asking each other questions as all eyes fell on Yu Xiaofei and her mother.

So it turned out that the backer for this mother and daughter, who had suddenly appeared two days ago, was none other than Captain Xie of the Starfire Team.

No wonder!

The person in charge of Zone A had been so attentive to the pair these past two days, even telling everyone not to disturb them. It seemed there was a reason for it all.

Yu Xiaofei’s mother was squatting beside her daughter, clutching her hand tightly, oblivious to everything happening around her.

She didn’t know that all the curious gazes in the room were now fixed on her and her daughter.

She was gently wiping her daughter’s brow with a damp towel, occasionally reaching out to touch her forehead.

”Ma’am,” Su Xiyue called out in a clear voice.

Yu Xiaofei’s mother seemed not to have heard, still squatting in front of her daughter, her gaze tense.

Seeing this, Lin Yiyi hurried forward and tugged on Yu Xiaofei’s mother’s arm. ”Ma’am, we’re here to see you.”

”Oh, it’s Yiyi.” Yu Xiaofei’s mother quickly stood up, a grateful look in her eyes.

”And Su Xiyue is here too. She brought her cousin.” Lin Yiyi bit her lip slightly and said softly, ”Ma’am, you remember, right? Your classmate Su Xiyue, the one who brought you out of A-3 two days ago.”

Xie Ning shot a glance at Lin Yiyi, the corner of her mouth lifting into a faint, mocking curve.

’Lin Yiyi and her petty little schemes.’

’Deliberately mentioning ”two days ago” in front of Yu Xiaofei’s mother. Her intention is too obvious.’

’Isn’t she just trying to remind Yu Xiaofei’s mother that Yueyue irresponsibly dumped them here after rescuing them from A-3, only coming to visit two days later?’

’Such a petty trick. So obvious.’

’This girl is full of schemes, and she insists on treating everyone but herself like an idiot.’

’Does she really think no one else has a brain?’

Xie Ning shook her head, having no desire to deal with the girl. She stepped forward and said directly to Yu Xiaofei’s mother, ”You must be Xiao Fei’s mother, right? I’m Su Xiyue’s cousin, Xie Ning.”

”Hello, hello.” Yu Xiaofei’s mother seemed a bit dazed, but she maintained her decorum and took the initiative to shake Xie Ning’s hand.

”Thank you, young lady. If Yueyue and the others hadn’t brought us out of A-3, what happened to us would have been even more...”

Yu Xiaofei’s mother choked up as she spoke. ”I’m so sorry, we haven’t been able to come and thank you properly. It’s just that Xiao Fei’s condition has worsened.”

”Don’t say that, Xiao Fei’s mother.” Xie Ning glanced at the tall, thin girl curled up in the corner of the sofa.

With just one look, she could tell the girl’s complexion was extremely poor.

Su Xiyue squatted down beside Yu Xiaofei, took her hand, and called out softly, ”Xiao Fei, Xiao Fei.”

Yu Xiaofei’s eyes were tightly shut, and she answered with a faint mumble.

”She’s been like this the whole time,” Yu Xiaofei’s mother said, wiping her tears and shaking her head. ”She drifts in and out of consciousness. For two days, she’s had a persistent low-grade fever that won’t go away.”

”Have you given her any medicine?”

Yu Xiaofei’s mother shook her head. ”Earlier, Yueyue found a young man who brought a Healing Ability User to check on Xiao Fei.”

”Yes, I heard about that. Did she not get better afterward?”

”No, Xiao Fei woke up that night, and her condition had clearly improved,” Yu Xiaofei’s mother said urgently. ”But for some reason, by early the next morning, she was delirious again and had started running a low fever.”

”She hasn’t shown any improvement since. Sometimes she even talks nonsense.”

Xie Ning glanced at Su Xiyue. ”A Healing Ability User from Country A?”

”Mhm, a friend of Tianfeng’s. They were laughing and joking around. They seemed very close,” Su Xiyue said, fiddling with her fingers.
