Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

That’s right, this was the main point. He Shuping and the others, who were a bit slow on the uptake, finally realized.

If there was nothing fishy about this, why did Song Kexin feel the need to give them a heads-up?

Saving people was a good deed, especially since it was Su Xiyue’s classmate and friend.

In their current situation, it was perfectly understandable to lend a hand for something that required little effort.

But why did Song Kexin have such a guilty look on her face?

Song Youzhi, who knew his daughter’s unreliability best, asked with a stern face, ”If you were really doing a good deed, what’s there to be guilty about? Did you do half the job and then abandon them?”

Song Kexin was speechless. ”Dad, am I that awful? We just arranged for them to stay in the Superpower Users’ rest area for the time being.”

”You know how it is, the Superpower Users over there are all assigned to small, fixed cubicles. Sometimes, several people have to squeeze into one room.”

”Get to the point.” Xie Ning could tell something was off, but the girl kept hemming and hawing, refusing to say what really happened.

”The point is, Sis, you know Lin Yiyi, right? The situation was urgent the day before yesterday, and we couldn’t bring them back here directly, so we temporarily placed Yu Xiaofei and her mother with them.”

Before Xie Ning could say anything, Song Youzhi couldn’t help but cry out, ”What? That bunch from the Swift Leopard Team? How did you get mixed up with them?”

Song Youyi couldn’t help but ask, ”Didn’t you say before that the Swift Leopard Team had broken up? Why are you still calling them the Swift Leopard Team?”

”Right, right, there’s no Swift Leopard Team anymore. I mean the former members of the Swift Leopard Team, Lin Yiyi and her group.”

Song Kexin swallowed hard, secretly glancing at the expressionless Xie Ning. A wave of guilt washed over her.

”Did you think I would criticize you for randomly picking people up, and then when Lin Yiyi enthusiastically offered to take over caring for the mother and daughter, you just went with the flow and agreed?”

Song Kexin shrank back.

”Have you considered why Lin Yiyi would be so proactive and kind-hearted?”

”We did!” Song Kexin nodded quickly. ”We won’t have too much contact with her.”

”How can you not have contact?” Song Youzhi said, annoyed. ”Are you stupid? The only reason that Lin Yiyi took on the responsibility of caring for them is to get closer to you! What is she really after?”

”I, I’ve thought about it myself, and I think... I think she just really wants to join us.”

”What?” Song You’ai jumped to her feet, waving her hands frantically. ”No way, absolutely not. If she joins, wouldn’t Xu Yu and Zhuang Lei come along too?”

The thought of Xu Yu’s ”Holy Mother” face made Song You’ai shudder for no reason.

That girl is way too dramatic, and she and Kexin don’t even get along. If we really let her in, how could we go on with our lives?

”Auntie, what are you talking about!” Song Kexin stomped her foot. ”How could I be that stupid? Of course I wouldn’t promise her anything.”

”You’re not stupid? You’re just...” Song Youzhi paced around the sofa, his hands behind his back as he shook his head repeatedly. ”That Lin Yiyi saw that you two sisters are soft-hearted and easy to talk to, so she’s approaching you step by step.”

It was a good thing this foolish child told them about it beforehand. Otherwise, with daily contact, they might have actually let them infiltrate the Starfire Team step by step.

The thought that this might actually happen made Song Youzhi feel as disgusted as if he’d swallowed a fly.

”That’s impossible, Dad!” Song Kexin shook her head frantically. ”I never even considered letting Yueyue have any more contact with Lin Yiyi. We haven’t gone over there for the past two days.”

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone in the room turned to stare at her as if she were an idiot.

Song Kexin’s face flushed. ”Wh-what? You’re making me nervous, staring at me like that.”

Song Youzhi stepped forward and patted her head. ”Oh, give me a break. This is why it’s so unreliable when you kids try to handle things.”

”Since you were saving them, how could you just dump them on Lin Yiyi halfway through and then ignore whether they live or die?”

This is no joke.

If it were someone more petty, you might have made an enemy.

Su Xiyue took off her headphones and said with a serious expression, ”Big Sis said we shouldn’t get close to Lin Yiyi. So we didn’t dare go back.”

”Besides, Lin Yiyi was being unusually enthusiastic about it. It was obvious she was trying to lure me into a trap.”

”I’m deliberately avoiding her. She won’t be able to hold back and will definitely come looking for us first.”

”When that happens, all of you will be here, so I won’t have to deal with her by myself.”

Everyone looked at each other in surprise.

Xie Ning’s eyes curved into a smile.

Song Youxuan was a bit surprised. She reached out and ruffled her daughter’s hair. ”Wow, you really thought it all through, didn’t you?”

”Mhm.” Su Xiyue nodded. ”And we asked Tianfeng to talk to the person in charge of Zone A. They won’t kick Yu Xiaofei and her mother out.”

”Lin Yiyi can’t do anything to them in broad daylight with everyone watching.”

”So for now, we’ll just let them recover in the rest area’s main lobby.” As Su Xiyue spoke, her little brow furrowed in thought. ”It’s just... I haven’t figured out what to do with them next.”

She couldn’t help but lower her little head. ”Is this going to be a lot of trouble?”

Xie Ning came forward and stroked her sister’s head. ”What trouble? It’s a trivial matter.”

Song Youzhi kept his stern expression. ”You two... although you acted a bit recklessly, at least you knew enough to report back to the family.”

”From now on, whenever something happens, you need to report it early, just like today. Don’t hide things.”

Song Kexin scratched her head. ”Yueyue said Lin Yiyi would come looking for us, but it’s been two days and she hasn’t shown up. She’s more patient than I thought.”

He Shuping picked up her basket of vegetables and pursed her lips. ”I don’t think it’s that she hasn’t come. I think she can’t get in at all!”

”Oh, right.” Song Kexin stuck out her tongue.

The electronic access gates along the way were all very secure. Lin Yiyi probably couldn’t even get past the first one.

”So, what do we do now?”

Xie Ning thought for a moment. ”I’ll go with you to see what Xiao Yu has to say.”

Su Xiyue’s eyes lit up. ”Tianfeng said that, um, our classmate Yu Xiaofei is malnourished and suffering from exposure, so her bodily functions are declining or something. Um, and she has a low-grade fever, but it shouldn’t be a big deal. Normally, it would just be like a common cold.”

”But right now, medicine is a bit tight, so most sick people can’t get proper treatment.”

”But Tianfeng... he helped us find a Healing Ability User from Country A to take a look at Xiao Fei.”

”Xiao Fei should be doing a bit better these past two days.” Su Xiyue added meekly, ”I didn’t dare go see her.”

”It’s okay.” Xie Ning smiled at her. ”Big Sis will go with you.”

Su Xiyue nodded repeatedly, her face beaming with a smile.

”You get a pass this time.” Song Youzhi continued his lecture with a stern face. ”From now on, you have to tell us immediately whenever anything happens.”
