Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1796: Chapter 1791: Vulgar Fear (4)

Looking for you?

The corner of the party was silent.

Staring at Fu Qian, at that moment, the expressions on the faces of the three people, Butters among them, were indescribably complex.

Knock, knock, knock!

However, the knocking continued, and the person outside was even trying to twist the doorknob.

”You—”

Under another wave of psychological pressure, one of the two assistants, a man with a prominent hump on his nose, finally couldn’t help but speak to Fu Qian.

”Double milk, double sugar, are you sure you don’t want it?”

But the outside voices abruptly cut off his urge to express himself in the next moment.

”If I guessed right, they are looking for me.”

Facing the three pairs of suddenly wide-open eyes, Fu Qian looked as though he had guessed correctly.

”Shall I grab a drink before we chat?”

In the next second, he politely sought the trio’s opinion first.

Click!

Seeing that Butters and the other two remained silent, Fu Qian took their non-response as agreement, walked up, and opened the door.

Sure enough, it was that previously hotly dressed girl suggesting he have a drink.

Though she was leaning against the side with an unhappy expression, she held a coffee cup.

Faced with his special request, she had actually remembered and tried to fulfill it.

You could even see the milk was added as requested.

”Thanks, of course, I want it.”

Thankful for the thoughtful beverage, Fu Qian expressed his gratitude immediately.

”Not bad!”

And after taking a sip, he sincerely gave a positive review.

...

”What are you guys doing in there?”

The drinks in charge, whose name was still unknown, still didn’t seem very happy.

Sniffing slightly, she peered past Fu Qian’s shoulder, trying to figure out what the few inside were up to.

”Thank you, Salma, want to come in and join us?”

At this moment, it was the high-nosed gentleman who had previously been interrupted who first adjusted his mood, smiling widely and greeting her.

”Sorry, I’m really not interested in what four men are doing behind a locked door.”

Unfortunately, this invitation only dampened Salma’s enthusiasm.

Seeing that the few people were just standing around chatting idly, her interest waned, and she had no intention of stepping further inside.

”If you get bored, you can come find me.”

Even as she was leaving, she threw a flirtatious wink at Fu Qian, her tone suggestive.

”Thanks, but in theory, since I’m drinking this, I should be the least likely to feel bored, right?”

Accepting the sentiment, Fu Qian unabashedly raised his paper cup, displaying his quirky persona.

”Alright then, suit yourself... Mr. Wolf.”

Clearly not accustomed to such a nonchalant response, Salma nonetheless didn’t dwell on it, simply turned, and walked away.

Though her parting title sounded a bit overly formal.

Not a close acquaintance, yet seemingly familiar with his affairs; as for the source...

Fu Qian glanced at the now calm Butters, casually relocking the door.

...

”Do you know Salma?”

When Fu Qian returned to his spot, even Butters temporarily forgot the trouble he stirred up, puzzled by the earlier interlude.

”I don’t know her, just initially mentioned outside that I didn’t want a drink... but it seems she knows me?”

Shaking his head, Fu Qian responded honestly, ending with an intentional undertone.

”...Salma is rarely so diligent.”

Sure enough, Butters instinctively avoided eye contact, yet still casually remarked.

”Should we return to the main issue?”

Seeing the conversation veer off topic, the high-nosed gentleman who invited Salma coldly reminded them, his smile disappearing completely.

”Yes... This time, you must help me, I really don’t want to go to jail... Besides, it was that guy who provoked first!”

His words jolted Butters awake, who then grabbed Fu Qian by the shirt, almost growling.

”Don’t rush.”

Faced with this urgent plea, and the previous consistent behavior, Fu Qian, sipping a mouthful, finally turned his gaze ”sharp”.

”Where is the person?”

...

”Below.”

Assuming a serious demeanor in a second, the audience seemed a bit uncomfortable; Butters, on the other hand, responded swiftly like clinging to a lifeline.

”And the action took place here?”

Nodding, Fu Qian didn’t mind the curt response.

Though this was already the ground floor, he had roughly observed the house layout before entering, not hard to notice one side had an entrance to an old-style basement with external access.

Even this room’s far-end wall housed a side door leading in that direction.

In this overly lively night, it would undoubtedly be an ideal spot for avoiding detection.

However, a spontaneous conflict among young people shouldn’t have warranted specifically meeting in such a place.

So, more likely, it was a temporary hideout post-incident.

And this room that the four were in, while it seemed normal enough, the informed parties were unlikely to leave a crime scene exposed there and deliberately lock themselves elsewhere for a confidential meeting, right?

”Yes, that guy fell right there.”

The effective demeanor was indeed contagious, even the high-nosed guy pointed to a corner of the room as he spoke.

”I see. But I have a question — Butters doesn’t want to go to jail, so why did you all get involved? Could it be a gang beating?”

Instead of observing details up close, Fu Qian became more interested in the one responding to him.

”That’s not your concern. You just need to know we also don’t want to see Butters get arrested.”

Sadly, the latter wasn’t so cooperative, merely responding somewhat stiffly.

”And Butters trusts this, got it.”

Nodding, Fu Qian summed up the information received, then drained his cup of coffee.

”Let’s go check it out downstairs first then.”

...

”Originally, it was locked, we pried it open earlier...”

In the darkness, the white-painted hatch was carefully lifted, revealing steps below, as Butters softly explained.

”Be careful, there’s no light down there.”

”Understood.”

Watching the three who showed no intent of following him down, Fu Qian displayed the composure of a top Scavenger, stepping deep inside, finally switching on his flashlight.

The brightness was indeed subpar, yet the space wasn’t large and mostly cluttered with various items.

And a form that appeared quite burly lay curled in a twisted posture amidst a shocking red puddle beneath.

With a coat wrapping its head.

The prop was genuinely well-made.

Under the gaze of the three behind, Fu Qian showed no sign of retreat, stepping forward to squat down and examine the gruesome scene, inwardly admiring.

As a blood expert, even in an ordinary human body, such close proximity with this volume was enough to make some judgments.

Whether on the basement floor or the coat, the bloodiness was alarming, but not real blood.

This undoubtedly increased the likelihood of the second possibility, everything was just a meticulously arranged prank, though—

Fu Qian continued placing his hand on the ”corpse”, waiting a few seconds, nodding slightly.

Whether Butters and the others realized it or not, this one was real.
