Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1769: Chapter 1764: Peace Brings Freedom

”Fu...”

Regarding Fu Qian’s suggestion, Professor Ah Kai, who had already gained quite a bit, naturally had no objections.

After bidding farewell to this new talent from the Benevolence Institute, Fu Qian had no intention of reporting to the Heaven’s Commencement Institute to make his presence known, opting instead to return directly to the laboratory to enjoy a moment of quiet.

Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, when you’re in this position, matters always come looking for you; it’s not something you can avoid just by wanting to take a break.

Though the reason behind this unexpected visit... is difficult to guess.

Not far from where Jia Keke had kept watch last time, a somewhat familiar figure sat idly, only jumping up when I was within three meters.

Veil’s problematic younger sister, Riet.

It’s not too strange that she hadn’t left yet, but what was she doing here?

Her gaze even had a hint of not knowing how to greet me.

”Hello there.”

The academic leader, of course, didn’t mind these minor issues; Fu Qian nodded slightly, greeting first, even gesturing with his left hand.

”Completely healed?”

The sisters came to the Academy originally for this very hand.

And Professor Lisa’s skills were trustworthy.

”All better...”

Fu Qian’s approachable manner rendered young Riet unsure of how to respond, so she simply nodded lightly.

”That’s good, would you like to sit in my laboratory?”

Though not isolated, the design of this place made casual passersby rare.

Whatever her mindset, Riet definitely came here on purpose.

”...Wouldn’t that be an intrusion?”

Not expecting such hospitality, Riet cautiously asked.

”Yes, I was originally planning to be idle for a while.”

As he spoke, Fu Qian had already walked ahead.

...

”It’s very nicely arranged, generous and comfortable, quite a different style from Professor Lisa’s.”

Although rattled by Fu Qian’s overly candid response, Riet eventually followed.

”I doubted it a bit when my sister mentioned it before.”

And as soon as she entered, she displayed her growth, praising the laboratory’s arrangement.

”You’re too kind. So your sister has visited?”

Fu Qian, true to his word, plopped into his seat, exuding leisurely idleness.

”No, she only heard about it from your research assistant.”

Yet it was this stance that seemed to put Riet at ease, making her chuckle softly.

”Oh?”

The research assistant naturally referred to Miss Liushuang, and her words seemed to carry a bit of implication.

”Has your sister joined the Swordsmanship Department?”

Fu Qian nodded slightly, asking casually.

”Not really... Some professors felt her talent was okay and suggested she stay to audit for a while.”

Talking about this, Riet seemed genuinely happy, reminiscent of previous discussions in the hotel.

Back then, she candidly explained that one reason for coming for treatment was that it might offer an opportunity for Veil.

Seeing her current joy, her previous words were indeed sincere.

”Additionally, Veil also told me that last time, when Professor Fu took her to the Sword Pavilion, it was when she met the mentors of the Swordsmanship Department... Though she hadn’t gained much insight.”

”In any case, we’re very grateful for all your assistance.”

With those words, Riet’s demeanor turned solemn as she offered a respectful bow.

...

”A minor effort; ultimately, it’s her own destiny.”

Fu Qian was unsurprised by Riet’s statement, waving his hand with a detachment beyond worldly concerns.

Is Sword Intent something easily comprehended?

Even when informed that Veil had been recognized, Fu Qian never considered her to have achieved some astonishing enlightenment at the Sword Pavilion.

The purpose of bringing her to the Sword Pavilion was merely to offer a possibility, with Sword Intent being as elusive and rare as hitting the jackpot; ”entering the Sword Pavilion itself” was part of the opportunity.

I’m confident Veil will seize this rare chance, but whether her performance will catch the attention or appreciation of the Swordsmanship Department’s mentors is up to her.

Currently, things are already quite promising for Veil.

This also explains Riet’s initial hesitation about how to address me.

Having heard of her sister’s experiences, she was probably uncertain whether to use ”Old Professor Fu” or ”Professor Fu.”

”I’m sure it seems simple to you, but I wouldn’t take it for granted... I used to be quite foolish.”

Self-deprecatingly shaking her head, Riet showed significant resolve, even critiquing herself aloud.

”Whether the one saving you did so easily, it doesn’t change the fact that you’d be dead otherwise, nor does it affect the debt you owe...”

”Truly, I’m very grateful. Without you, I can only imagine the difference from reality in such a scenario.”

”In fact, my sister also wanted to express her gratitude, but unfortunately, we heard you had already left.”

The once rebellious girl finally sighed, sitting beside him.

...

”But you still came here.”

Not doubting Riet’s realization, Fu Qian glanced towards the door.

”I just really have nothing to do...”

Blushing due to his action, Riet candidly admitted her idling.

”My sister has been approved to stay at the Academy, and I’m allowed to stay with her, so when she goes to the Institute, I wander around... Would Professor Fu mind if I inform my sister?”

Clearly, Riet understood her position well, making no requests for advice but carefully confirming with Fu Qian.

”I don’t mind.”

”That’s great.”

Nevertheless, the young one’s enthusiasm was infectious; Riet, brimming with excitement, politely moved aside.

Despite the world’s communication devices being crude and costly, sending a little text isn’t an issue.

”Professor Fu.”

Soon, she returned with a somewhat odd expression.

”Miss Ji wants to confirm with you if it’s convenient to come to the Swordsmanship Department now?”

”Convenient.”

Fu Qian, saying so, was already standing up.

Contacting Veil and receiving a message from the research assistant was unsurprising to him.

Miss Liushuang informed Veil of his absence, so how could Veil not notify her upon his return?

Though the reason wasn’t stated, it was clear something was bettered with his involvement there.

If it weren’t so, Miss Liushuang wouldn’t have asked if he wanted to go.

As for what precisely, judging by the time, it might just be the Night Watchman rewards coming to light.
