Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 896: The Eruption of Fear, Lin Yuʼs Arrangement

Lin Yu had no intention of doing anything to make his teammates ”lose emotional control.”

For one, Fu Luo was in the group, and Lin Yu still had to be cautious around him. The identity of Old Yao was ultimately not like the Director, who held extremely high credibility in Fu Luoʼs eyes.

As a friend of a friend and a benefactor who had helped him once, Old Yao and Fu Luo still had some distance between them.

His appearance had no obvious flaws, but if one really scrutinized it, it certainly wouldnʼt hold up perfectly.

If he actually made Fu Luo suspicious of him, the loss would outweigh the gain. After all, Lin Yu had already taken a tour around these ruins and knew there would be plenty of opportunities for him to shine.

For another...

Lin Yu was also quite confident that none of these people had particularly good emotional control.

Although they were all trying their best to stay calm right now... the more one tried to suppress their emotions, the easier it was to snap and lose control all at once at some point.

Especially in such a high-pressure environment. It was incredibly difficult for people to overcome their own ”instincts.”

”Emotion” was also a form of instinct.

Most people didnʼt truly understand their own brains, their own thoughts, or their own emotions, nor could they control their thoughts and feelings.

After all, emotions were influenced by hormones. That was only human nature.

Especially negative emotions!

Forget haunted houses or solo nighttime expeditions into the wilderness. Even just lying in bed after watching a horror movie, how many people could truly slam the brakes on their own thoughts when telling themselves ”donʼt be scared” and ”donʼt think about the horror movie plot”?

Even if some people were bold enough that fear wasnʼt much of an issue for them...

What about anger, sadness, or frustration?

Very few people were born fearless, optimistic, positive, and level-headed, able to instantly return to a calm state the moment any emotion arose.

That wasnʼt a person. That was a monster.

Of course, even though emotions were determined by hormones, they were still relatively ”subjective” things, and it was possible to achieve relative stability through training methods.

Lin Yu happened to know a thing or two about that.

But... precisely because he knew about it, he understood just how difficult it was to actually put into practice.

Even just being able to act without being disrupted by emotions when they arose already counted as a remarkable person, someone rare even among players.

Let alone being able to fully master and control oneʼs emotions!

Moreover, in daily life, apart from those who cultivated the Dao, very few people actually trained in this area!

After all, Lin Yu had originally searched the internet for a large number of meditation and psychological suggestion methods in order to ensure his performance quality wouldnʼt be affected by emotions, and he began training day after day. These exercises were mixed into his daily performance practice.

And even so, Lin Yu felt that he had persisted for many years before seeing modest results.

In short...

Lin Yu knew that even if he did nothing at all, these guys wouldnʼt be able to hold themselves together.

King Vulture and Kitty didnʼt seem like the type to be very calm and collected, and as for Fu Luo, he knew him like the back of his hand.

Especially when Fu Luo had just asked if he could speak. Lin Yu already knew it was mostly settled. Fu Luo had definitely reached the point where he felt he was about to lose it.

And when Kitty and King Vulture immediately followed up with their own remarks, that further confirmed it.

”You two, what did you eat this morning?” After King Vulture finished her explanation, Kitty asked out of nowhere, then answered her own question, ”I had eggs benedict this morning.”

”Why are you bringing that up? Isnʼt that completely irrelevant?”

King Vulture asked, confused.

Fu Luo came to Kittyʼs rescue: ”We should talk about completely irrelevant topics. I had spicy soup and fried dough twists this morning. That spicy soup is really something else, you all should try it. Though I originally wanted to eat pan-fried buns. I told my mom about it the night before, but she forgot to mix the filling, so I could only go out and buy fried dough twists instead... Speaking of which, after this dungeon is over, when I get home tonight, I should still be able to eat pan-fried buns.”

Kitty opened her mouth, then said, ”Thatʼs nice. Iʼve never been to Henan Province, and Iʼve never had spicy soup. If I get the chance, I might go try it.”

”Iʼve never had eggs benedict either,” Fu Luo rubbed his nose, ”but Iʼve seen it in movies. It looked pretty tasty.”

King Vulture said, ”I donʼt even know what that is. Is it some kind of foreign birdʼs egg?”

”Itʼs just chicken eggs, made in a foreign style,” Kitty paused, then suddenly let out a helpless chuckle, ”Actually, itʼs not that good. After eating it, I went and had a bowl of pork chop noodles instead.”

”Pork chop noodles are delicious. You need that energy to teach your students after eating.”

Hearing Kittyʼs words, King Vulture nodded: ”I know what pork chop noodles are.”

”Oh, you actually know about pork chop noodles? I thought they didnʼt have those outside the area.”

Kitty said, surprised.

King Vulture twitched the corner of her mouth: ”I have been to the Jiangzhehu region for travel before... though itʼs true that I didnʼt have it in Haicheng. I had it in Sucheng.”

”People from Sucheng donʼt make pork chop noodles with enough flavor.”

Kitty shook her head and said disdainfully.

”You Haicheng folks sure have a strong sense of superiority.”

King Vultureʼs mouth twitched even more.

Kitty looked at King Vulture with a strange expression: ”Youʼve got it wrong, Iʼm from Sucheng. I just teach in Haicheng.”

This stunned King Vulture for a moment, then she slowly nodded and spoke: ”Sorry, my mistake. Thatʼs on me.”

Fu Luo raised his hand: ”No matter what, I love Henan Province. Our provinceʼs braised noodles are the best!”

Lin Yu gave a thumbs up: ”Braised noodles are the way to go.”

”Oh right, Old Yao, what did you eat today?”

Seeing Lin Yu finally join the conversation, Fu Luo quickly asked.

He seemed quite worried that this silent Old Yao might develop some negative emotion like hostility or fear.

Lin Yu shook his head and said, ”I havenʼt eaten yet. I was too nervous to eat... The Tycoon had high hopes for me this time, sending a newcomer who just joined the organization not long ago to train in this dungeon. If I screwed up, thatʼd be the end of me.”

”Of course, I also need to thank everyone. I actually already screwed up once. I got dragged away and killed by a monster right at the start. How embarrassing,” Lin Yu laughed self-deprecatingly, ”Luckily everyone saved me.”

”Donʼt say such distant things. Weʼre all brothers here,” Fu Luo waved his hand grandly, ”Have we almost walked out of their detection range?”

The few of them chatted as they walked, already nearing the position of the large gate.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly...

But only Lin Yu knew. All three of them had already reached their limits.

After all, from just a moment ago, everyoneʼs gazes had been deliberately avoiding certain ”things” near this building.

Those were...

corpses.

The bodies of researchers wearing white lab coats.

Although most of them had long since aged with time, one could still tell from the condition of their broken bones and twisted postures... that their deaths had been horrifying.

This was also why Lin Yu could confirm that they definitely wouldnʼt pass the guards smoothly.

”Crack!”

As Fu Luo accidentally stepped on and snapped a finger bone on the ground while talking, that sound of bone breaking, something recorded deep in human DNA, completely shattered the three peopleʼs spirits that had been putting on a show of ease while being actually stretched taut.

”BZZZT!”

The ”giant” behind them let out a sharp alarm sound.

”Thatʼs right!”

Lin Yu put on a terrified expression on his face, but in his heart, he was immensely gratified.

If these three could still maintain their composure under these circumstances...

”Wouldnʼt all my effort dragging these corpses from all over to arrange them here have been wasted?”
