Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 867: The True Monster

Starting from Chlorpromazineʼs ”ninja technique,” everyone except Fu Luo shifted their moves from lethal ”attacks” to ”movement restrictions.”

Mud materialized out of thin air, forming low, staggered earthen walls that created numerous obstacles within the already sealed airship interior.

King Vulture slit his own wrist with a serpent-fang dagger, and the dripping blood transformed into crimson venomous snakes that slithered around the earthen walls, lying in wait to constrict the shadowy figure.

Fern, meanwhile, produced two chains and repeatedly attempted to directly seal off the form darting between the earthen walls.

Nineteen, for his part, kept hurling one [Slow Potion] after another—those bottles shattered on the ground, and the volatile mixture that rose and evaporated would often instantly drag down the movement of the misty figure.

Kitty wasnʼt idle either, holding a reusable scroll to restore stamina and heal the other players.

Apart from Fu Luo, who was preparing his ultimate move, and the military otaku who had already collapsed, everyone was pulling out all the stops to restrict the monsterʼs movements.

But Fu Luo, eyes tightly shut, seemingly preparing some grand ultimate, clutched a ”button” while his heart raced in utter panic.

”Damn! Damn! Damn!”

Nineteen, for his part, kept hurling one [Slow Potion] after another—those bottles shattered on the ground, and the volatile reagent that rose and evaporated would often instantly drag down the movement of the misty figure.

Sure, after this trip to Sleepless City, he had managed to acquire some ”high-end” [Items] thanks to his reputation—one of which did possess devastating destructive power.

But for Fu Luo...

That [Item], once used, would blow up the entire ”airship” whether it hit its target or not!

The button he was holding right now was the detonation switch for that [Item].

It was Truth Corporationʼs most cutting-edge technology—an experimental bomb called [Endless Madness]. It contained ”extreme joy” and ”extreme sorrow,” two emotions extracted from tens of thousands of psychiatric patients and compressed to the absolute limit, sealed together.

Once activated, it would trigger ”emotional annihilation,” causing a violent explosion—one that made no distinction between friend and foe.

So now, Fu Luo was trapped in an agonizing dilemma.

”Could it really come down to mutually assured destruction?”

He stared intently at the battle, hoping the monster would suddenly be utterly crushed in this fight centered on ”restricting its movement.”

And just as Fu Luo was wrestling with his decision...

Suddenly, Fernʼs chains locked onto the figure within the water mist!

”Whoosh!”

At the same time, Nineteenʼs three potions smashed onto the creature as well.

”Now!” King Vulture shouted. ”Strike now—Lord Furbollo!”

Hearing King Vultureʼs cry, Fu Luo instinctively responded.

”Got it!”

He raised his hand, but the button in his grasp refused to be pressed.

However...

Just as Fu Luo raised his hand.

”Whoosh—!”

The water mist suddenly dispersed, and a layer of white flame erupted from the ”monster” wrapped in chains.

”So thatʼs ʼFear Flameʼ! Impressive, as expected of a master famed throughout Sleepless City!”

Nineteen marveled as he watched the monster on the ground rolling around, silently howling in agony, and his gaze toward Fu Luo grew tinged with a bit more awe.

Fu Luo, watching the same scene, was equally dumbfounded.

Why did this thing suddenly combust on its own?

Was it some kind of mechanic?

But he quickly composed his expression and said calmly, ”That should be settled.”

Soon, the white flames slowly died down.

The water mist on the ground recondensed, though much thinner than before.

Everyone looked back into the mist and saw a monster whose facial features only rose and fell slightly, like a faceless being.

”So this is your true form?”

Nineteen stared at the faceless figure and asked coldly.

”Yes... As expected of otherworldly travelers heading to the Sixth Island. Your auras may not be strong, but your tricks are by no means weak, one and all.”

The faceless figure sat cross-legged and spoke in a hoarse voice: ”But... since things have come to this, I think we can discuss a cooperation.”

”Cooperation?”

Fu Luo gnashed his teeth. ”You killed my friend, stole his identity, and you still want to discuss cooperation with me?”

”Donʼt worry, heʼs fine. I just hid him away—thatʼs my bargaining chip,” the faceless figure said, his tone cold and stern. ”I noticed that you outsiders have split into three factions... So, as long as I reach the island safely, Iʼll return that man to you intact. What do you say?”

King Vulture sneered: ”You still want to get on the island? A life for a life—hand over Old Yao, and we might just spare your miserable existence.”

But Fu Luo held a different opinion.

He ignored King Vultureʼs words and looked at the faceless figure.

”Fine, I agree—once weʼre on the island, you hand Old Yao over to me, and I let you go.”

”But, Lord Furbollo...”

King Vulture sounded anxious, but Fu Luo simply shook his head.

”Old Yao matters far more than this monster... For me, guaranteeing your safety is more important than ʼcompleting our mission.ʼ”

”After all, even if we fail, the matter of the inheritance isnʼt set in stone. The organizations behind us will naturally cover for us... So what matters is that we all survive.”

The faceless figure chuckled upon hearing this. ”What a touching speech... Lord Furbollo.”

Then, he turned toward Nineteen.

”So, youʼd like to make a deal with us too?”

Nineteen said with keen interest.

”Of course. You want the inheritance on the Sixth Island—I can refrain from competing with you. I only want one ʼpendantʼ from it.”

”Thatʼs not for me to decide,” Nineteen shrugged and looked at Chlorpromazine. ”What do you think?”

”A pendant, huh... Fine.”

Chlorpromazine replied after a moment of deliberation.

Then, the faceless figure turned to the military otaku, who had just regained consciousness, and Fern.

”Lastly, the two of you... Iʼve already learned some of your secrets—if you let me go, Iʼll keep them for you.”

Fern looked at the faceless figure and asked thoughtfully, ”How do I know youʼre not bluffing me?”

The faceless figure raised a finger and made an ”OK” sign.

Fernʼs expression shifted slightly. ”You really do have some tricks up your sleeve.”

As for the military otaku, he didnʼt question the faceless figure at all. He just stared at him, and after a long pause, spoke slowly.

”I want to talk to you alone.”

”Of course.”

The faceless figure...

Or rather, Lin Yu, disguised as a faceless figure through [False Face], looked at the genuine Misty Islands native monster who had infiltrated the ”Player” ranks, and said with a smile.

”We should have plenty of common ground to discuss.”

With that, he slowly rose to his feet and looked at the other players.

”I hope you all can give him and me a bit of private space.”

Before the other players could object, Lin Yu manipulated the [Prayer Water Necklace] once more, conjuring a water mist that seemed just like the fog of the Misty Islands, cutting off everyoneʼs view.
