Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 893: A Special Ruin

Since Lin Yu had put on a show of being completely clueless after being knocked out by the monster, Fu Luo gave him a rough explanation of everything that had happened during that time.

”So thatʼs how it is. Weʼre already on the Sixth Island now, and we need to head to the ʼruinsʼ to search for clues about the Cursed Statues and the inheritance, right?”

As Lin Yu was summarizing, the group had already set foot back on the road toward the ruins.

”Thatʼs right.”

Fu Luo nodded, feeling gratified that Old Yao had managed to snap out of his daze and immediately clear his head enough to understand the explanation in one go.

He couldnʼt help but feel a bit sentimental—sure enough, people who could be friends with Lin Yu... might have lower education levels, but none of them were stupid.

And the ”Old Yao” before him not only understood the situation and kept up with the pace, but could even offer his own insights right away.

”Great, once we reach the ruins and find those Cursed Statues, we should be able to send out the coordinates directly,” Lin Yu remarked with feeling. ”After all... according to your analysis, Furbollo, that ʼFreudʼsʼ inheritance should be in those ruins, right?”

Although the various organizations had set the minimum requirement for those entering the Sixth Island to simply sending back the coordinates, in practice, everyone still preferred to make their positions as precise as possible.

Even... if they could directly grab the ”inheritance” and complete the task to exit the dungeon, that would be the best outcome!

But that was also the tricky part—after all, in this dungeon, whether from the Psychological Society, Order... no matter which organization the players came from, their clear conditions were all exactly the same.

Finding the inheritance—if the ”Cursed Statues” fell into the other sideʼs hands, then theyʼd all just be temporarily trapped on this island.

”No rush on sending the coordinates. After all, Iʼm not certain itʼs really in the ruins.”

Fu Luo nodded as he spoke.

Lin Yu laughed. ”I trust your judgment and instincts, Furbollo—since you say it might be in the ruins, then I feel like... it probably really is in the ruins.”

”Besides, ʼruinsʼ and ʼinheritanceʼ both have that ʼleft behindʼ vibe, so theyʼre practically family. If it were me, Iʼd bury it there too!”

Lin Yu analyzed with a completely straight face, and Fu Luo couldnʼt help but let out a helpless chuckle.

Even King Vulture couldnʼt resist ribbing him: ”What kind of analysis method is that?!”

And as the group chatted and laughed, the trees around them began to thin out.

Soon...

An upward sloping path appeared before them.

And at the end of that slope...

A sprawling collection of abandoned buildings covered in withered vegetation was scattered haphazardly across a low mountain.

”This should be the ruins of the Sixth Islandʼs predecessor civilization,” Fu Luo said in a low voice. ”Looking at those architectural styles, this ruin doesnʼt seem to be a residential area or anything like that.”

”Itʼs probably a place similar to a ʼresearch institute and shelter.ʼ I bought some advanced guide materials on the Misty Islands,” Lin Yu said casually. ”They mentioned... that the buildings on the Sixth Island seem to be a research institute from the predecessor civilization... and after the Cataclysm hit the Misty Islands, it was converted into a shelter.”

”Is that so.”

Fu Luo said in surprise, looking at the buildings again.

The stories were generally not too tall, and many of the buildings had peculiar shapes—not the usual square, flat concrete-box houses commonly seen across the Misty Islands.

A high-domed hall, a small building with some kind of receiver, a glass house wrapped in metal fencing...

Overall, it truly did carry an air of ”academia and research.”

”Itʼs really quite special,” King Vulture also remarked with admiration. ”No wonder Jiangʼan Hall sent you over. It seems Old Yao really does have some extraordinary qualities.”

Lin Yu shook his head and spoke humbly: ”Precisely because I donʼt have any extraordinary qualities—just a bit of street smarts—that I take this matter especially seriously.”

Kitty said, ”Donʼt say that. That kind of earnestness isnʼt something just anyone can possess.”

Lin Yu smiled awkwardly again. ”Youʼre all being far too generous with your praise. Anyway... that material also mentioned the precautions for this place.”

”On the Misty Islands, this type of research-oriented ancient civilization ruin complex often has extremely high security levels—which means that even after the Cataclysm, there might still be some level of defensive mechanisms running inside.”

”Moreover, the number of automatic puppets we can see in other ruins and building complexes will be far fewer than in these kinds of structures, and the puppets in this type of complex often have stronger combat power—they might even be actively aggressive. We absolutely need to be careful.”

”But at the same time, their movement patterns will also be easier to predict—because although that Cataclysm erupted suddenly, it wasnʼt entirely without warning, which is why the ancient civilization converted shelters... and many of the research topics these institutes studied were also related to the Cataclysm—so many of those puppets were produced for specific purposes and werenʼt heavily twisted and mutated by the curse.”

Lin Yu warned the other players about what heʼd ”read” in the ”materials.”

Fu Luo nodded as well. ”If the materials Old Yao bought are accurate, then thatʼs a huge help... Information and guides related to the Misty Islandsʼ ancient civilization have always been scarce among players, and nothing that circulated was ever this specific.”

”With your information and materials, we might very well get ahead of those Marauders and Psychological Society bastards—and those two unidentified individuals too!”

Lin Yu nodded. ”No problem. Though I donʼt have time to give you a detailed breakdown of those puppetsʼ movement patterns right now, and I only remember a rough outline so I canʼt recite it directly... but if we encounter the ʼreal thingʼ... I think I can still recall some useful information.”

Of course...

Only Lin Yu himself knew that he hadnʼt spent a single coin on buying any materials.

Most of the knowledge about the Misty Islands heʼd just shared had been extracted from Old Zheng through some rigorous questioning.

As for the puppetsʼ movement patterns, while Old Zheng didnʼt know them in that much detail either...

Lin Yu had actually already come to this ruin earlier for a quick tour!

After all, between sending off the Diving Merchant and Fu Luo finding him, there had been a fairly generous window of time.

During that period, Fu Luoʼs group had returned from the sea, negotiated with the fin-folk, and then started moving across the island...

That amount of time was more than enough for Lin Yu to run ahead to the ruins and scope things out.

Having come thoroughly prepared, Lin Yu naturally had a basic understanding of these puppets.

As for why heʼd come to the ruins...

It was simple. From the Diving Merchantʼs words, Lin Yu could deduce that the other players were all gathered in Frostedue!

And their next destination was either Cassetti or this very ruin!

After all, they didnʼt have the island lordʼs hints, so theyʼd inevitably need to spend more time.

And those Cursed Statues... Lin Yu could basically confirm they were somewhere within this ruin.

So...

The probability of them coming to this ruin was much higher!
