Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 860: Monster Boards the Airship, Beyond the Mist

Lin Yu, who knew Fu Luo well, was certain that this terrified scream had come from Fu Luo.

King Vulture and Kitty also recognized it as Fu Luoʼs voice, and panic immediately gripped them.

””Furbollo,” whatʼs wrong?!”

”Whatʼs happening!”

Lin Yu knew very well that nothing had happened in the darkness, he had released a sliver of his spiritual energy the moment the scream rang out.

Combined with the Mind-Peeping Eyepieceʼs feedback of ”95% Terror” and his understanding of Fu Luo...

This scream was simply because Fu Luo had scared himself.

However, Lin Yu had no intention of exposing Fu Luo.

Beside him, Kitty quickly pulled out a flashlight and switched it on, illuminating the surroundings.

Seeing Fu Luo sitting unharmed in his seat, merely looking a bit shaken, Kitty breathed a sigh of relief.

”Lord Furbollo, as long as youʼre alright... what just happened?”

Fu Luo snapped back to reality, realizing how embarrassing his outburst had just been.

Lin Yu observed Fu Luoʼs emotions shift instantly from ”95% Terror” to ”40% Embarrassment, 33% Nervousness, 10% Anxiety.”

Clearly, he was worried about blowing his cover as a top-tier expert.

But before Fu Luo could stammer out some pathetic excuse, King Vulture spoke up.

”Furbollo must have sensed some ʼthreatʼ that none of us noticed. As the strongest person on this airship, his perception is certainly sharper than ours, and heʼd naturally be the first target.”

King Vulture explained with a grave expression.

This explanation clearly gave Fu Luo an opening. He let out a breath and spoke with composure: ”Indeed... I did just feel my fear momentarily spiral out of control, as if something extremely dangerous had locked onto me.”

”Everyone, be careful!”

Fu Luo warned in a low voice. Kitty tightened her grip on the flashlight, and the group instinctively huddled closer to the light source.

But soon, everyone realized that the flashlightʼs beam was illuminating an increasingly smaller area.

”Itʼs the fog,” King Vulture muttered. ”For ʼmistʼ to appear on this airship... that means something has boarded with us!”

”And judging by the density and speed of this fogʼs spread, whateverʼs coming is no pushover!”

In the world of the Misty Islands, thick, never-dissipating fog perpetually shrouded the waters between islands, and within that dense fog lurked countless mutated monsters.

They had once been residents of the Misty Islands, but during the ”cataclysm” that swept the entire archipelago, they lost themselves and transformed into all manner of monstrous beings.

These monsters often appeared alongside the fog, making it impossible for people to say whether the fog brought the monsters, or the monsters summoned the fog.

But one thing was certain... fog rarely appeared on islands and vehicles that housed the Misty Islandsʼ ”normal humans.”

If it did appear, unless it was a normal ”tidal fog” fluctuation, it meant a monster had emerged.

And the thicker the fog, the more terrifying the monster, either there were enough of them in number, or a single one was powerful enough.

The milk-white fog reflected in the flashlightʼs beam was enough to make King Vulture curse inwardly.

And it wasnʼt just King Vulture...

Over where Nineteen and Chlorpromazine were, the two also realized the severity of the situation.

The biggest threat on this airship right now was absolutely no longer the other players!

”Did my ʼgear adjustmentʼ not work... damn it, a bunch of First-Tier and Second-Tier players, how could they attract fog and monsters of this level?!”

Nineteen cursed inwardly, peering through the mist at the silhouettes of the players.

Could it be that among these players, a hidden master was lurking?

Soon, the fogʼs density continued to thicken rapidly.

From the thin, veil-like mist at the start, it grew increasingly dense, like milk fermenting into thick, clotted yogurt.

Even out in the wilderness or at sea in the Misty Islands, encountering fog of this density would be considered a dangerous zone!

Not to mention... this was on an airship, a mode of transport that would certainly be equipped with devices to suppress fog.

In other words, this fog was the suppressed, diluted version. Out in the wild, the true fog density might be considerably thicker than what they were seeing now.

Lin Yu stood within it, his expression utterly grim.

Because the current fog density was already on par with the thick mist that Old Zheng had conjured around the asylum on Thirty-Seventh Island.

And Lin Yu knew all too well the difficulty and intensity of that asylum.

Even setting aside the influence of Old Zheng and the Diviner, and removing the disgusting extremes of Old Zhengʼs ”memory reset” and ”cognitive interference” arrangements...

The monster strength and numbers within the asylum dungeon were absolutely no joke.

While Lin Yu could handle it... doing so while using the ”Old Yao” identity would not be an easy task.

Fu Luo would definitely be useless in a real fight. And based on King Vultureʼs attitude toward her, this Kitty was probably just here to network and couldnʼt be trusted...

If he continued to hold back his strength, the only ones he could truly rely on in a direct confrontation would be King Vulture and Fern!

Although Fern was exceptionally strong for a Second-Tier, after all, she was someone Crow had his eye on, able to hold her own against a power-suppressed ”Twenty” without falling behind.

Fighting her would definitely be far trickier than the two opponents heʼd faced in the Land of Certain Death.

However... whether Fern would go all out was still up in the air.

More importantly... would the monsters of the Misty Islands even give people a chance to fight head-on?

The fog grew thicker and thicker, Kittyʼs flashlight becoming nearly useless. Even with the four of them huddled together, Lin Yu and his group could barely make out each otherʼs faces.

Let alone the other four players in the distance, whose silhouettes had already vanished completely.

Just as Lin Yu couldnʼt help growing more tense...

”Whoosh!”

Suddenly, visibility spiked dramatically.

The fog rapidly thinned and faded. Though the air remained stifling and damp, the mist seemed to turn translucent.

Though it was still dark, the eight of them could once again see each otherʼs outlines by the light, exchanging uneasy glances.

However... a thin layer of mist clung to each person, making it impossible to discern one anotherʼs features.

”Whatʼs going on? Are we safe now?”

Kitty couldnʼt help but ask.

”No, weʼre not... on the contrary, a monster has already blended in among us.”

Fu Luo said in a low voice, pointing at a trail of water stains on the floor.

Looking closely, it appeared to be the mark left by someone being dragged away.

And at the end of that trail...

Led to the emergency escape hatch leading outside the airship, a door that had somehow already been opened.

”Of the eight of us in this group, one of us has been dragged out and thrown off,” Fu Luo said, activating his ability as the Detective. ”But right now... there are still eight people on this airship.”

”And although the fog has thinned, we still canʼt see each otherʼs faces clearly. That proves a monster has infiltrated our ranks and stolen one of the playersʼ identities!”

”But because it canʼt mimic every detail perfectly, itʼs had to manipulate the fog to conceal everyoneʼs distinguishing features!”
