Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 884: Threats and Negotiations Beneath the Hidden Currents

In the waterway, after the submerged figure turned around, Lin Yu also got a clear look at the other party.

It was a figure wearing an old-fashioned metal diving suit, somewhat bulky in build.

The heavy brass-toned diving suit clung to him like some kind of prison cage—which was likely also the reason his movement speed wasnʼt particularly fast.

After all, dragging around a diving suit of that weight, merely managing to walk was already quite impressive.

And upon hearing the other party speak, Lin Yu felt somewhat relieved.

”Sure enough, itʼs someone who can communicate!”

Although Lin Yu wasnʼt particularly afraid if a real fight broke out, not fighting was still the best outcome.

So Lin Yu stopped advancing, maintained a distance of several meters from the other party, adjusted his voice, and spoke with a cold sneer.

”Thatʼs a question I should be asking you—who are you?”

”Why are you in the underground waters of our Sixth Island!”

Lin Yu seized the initiative, shouting sternly.

After all, the other party definitely wasnʼt from the Sixth Island, and since he was asking who Lin Yu was, he clearly didnʼt know Lin Yuʼs background!

Moreover...

His voice sounded guilty.

Sure enough, upon hearing Lin Yuʼs words, the figure in the diving suit seemed at a loss.

”This... I, I wandered in here by accident!”

”Iʼm an Islander from the Eleventh Island, an old acquaintance of your Island Lord. Today I originally came to visit, but I didnʼt expect to be ambushed by Abyssal Spawns in the coastal waters near the Sixth Island. The submersible I was riding sank, and I had no choice but to flee along the Dark Current in the underground waters. In my panic, I ended up entering from here.”

The other partyʼs words grew increasingly fluent, as if he had been somewhat shaken at first but was gradually getting his thoughts in order.

Because the thick glass seal on the front of the diving suitʼs faceplate was heavily tinted dark gray, Lin Yu couldnʼt clearly see his expression.

But judging from the tone of his voice, his speech seemed like that of a genuinely innocent passerby.

Even in the Misty Islands... this guyʼs deception skills were quite impressive.

Lin Yu let out a cold laugh and said, ”Is that so? Then come with me to see our Island Lord. If you truly have connections with her and things are exactly as youʼve said, then meeting the Island Lord will naturally make everything clear.”

As Lin Yu spoke, the other party let out a bitter laugh through the diving suit.

”Heh, if you donʼt believe me, thereʼs nothing I can do... But I truly can go with you to meet the Lord of the Sixth Island—my purpose in coming this time is precisely to seek her protection.”

He said this while slowly approaching Lin Yuʼs direction, as if he were genuinely innocent.

And just as the distance between him and Lin Yu shrank to five meters...

”Shwoosh!”

He raised both hands, and from beneath the arms of the metal diving suit, two harpoons shot out!

The two harpoons flew straight for Lin Yuʼs heart and face.

Having been fully on guard and anticipating this, Lin Yu immediately activated [Most Suitable for the Virtuous and Frugal], instantly adjusting his body to dodge the two harpoons.

Although the passage could accommodate two people walking side by side, it was by no means spacious.

Yet within such a narrow space, Lin Yu precisely adjusted his movements and completed the evasion of those two harpoons.

Then, Lin Yu let out a cold laugh.

”You really do harbor ill intentions! Who exactly are you?!”

”Clang! Thud!”

After two sharp sounds, the harpoons embedded themselves in the rock wall behind Lin Yu.

Seeing Lin Yu dodge and the harpoons miss their target, the other party said nothing and immediately fired six more harpoons.

This time, he didnʼt aim for Lin Yuʼs vital points but instead sealed off the entire passage above, below, left, and right, making it impossible for Lin Yu to find any angle to dodge all six harpoons simultaneously.

But Lin Yu chose to raise both hands and activated the [Prayer Water Necklace]!

”Splash!”

A turbulent current formed in front of him, instantly scattering those swift harpoons and causing the sharp steel spikes to clatter as they embedded themselves into the rock wall around Lin Yu.

Seeing this, the man in the diving suit sneered.

”Who am I? Youʼre not from the Sixth Island either!”

”You otherworldly beings really are hard to read—I, a native of the Misty Islands, was almost fooled by you!”

Hearing the other party expose his identity, Lin Yu didnʼt admit it but simply spoke coldly again.

”Foolish—just because Iʼm an outsider, why couldnʼt I be serving the Island Lord?”

”You donʼt actually think Iʼd be afraid to meet the Island Lord, do you?”

Lin Yu spoke with full confidence.

He indeed dared to meet the Lord of the Sixth Island—after all, as a ”Player” seeking the inheritance of the first-generation ʼFreudʼ, he was completely legitimate and within his rights.

But...

From the way the Soul-Draining Vine had insisted on parasitizing a Player, and from the furtive manner of this guy before him, it was clear that Old Zheng had indeed told the Lord of the Sixth Island back then that his inheritance must not be touched by the native inhabitants of the Misty Islands!

So...

Lin Yu truly had the confidence.

Sure enough, even though the other party knew he wasnʼt a Sixth Island resident, once Lin Yu pointed this out, his momentum weakened once again.

However...

It was precisely because the other party had discovered Lin Yuʼs Player identity and combined it with Lin Yuʼs earlier impersonation of a Sixth Island resident that he developed a new idea.

Under Lin Yuʼs threat, the unidentified figure in the diving suit, just as Lin Yu had predicted, stopped attacking and chose to open negotiations once more.

”Regardless, youʼre not from the Sixth Island... youʼre only here for profit—you and I both know exactly what the most tantalizing treasure on this Sixth Island is right now.”

The man in the diving suit spoke. ”I can see that finding it hasnʼt been easy for you either. How about we... do a simple collaboration?”

Hearing this, Lin Yu sneered. ”What reason do I have to collaborate with you?”

”Youʼre not the only otherworldly being to come to the island, are you?” the figure in the diving suit murmured. ”Although youʼve indeed arrived faster than your competitors... but with you searching like this, are you really confident youʼll find it before they arrive?”

As he spoke, Lin Yu raised an eyebrow in surprise. ”Why wouldnʼt I be confident?”

”Heh, the inheritance left by that one isnʼt as simple as you imagine,” the man in the diving suit shook his head. ”Moreover... the reason your competitors havenʼt arrived yet is precisely because I helped hold them off for you!”

”Along the coastline of the Sixth Island, I summoned a large number of Sea Spawns and launched an attack the moment they approached the shore,” the man in the diving suit said smugly. ”I just didnʼt expect that among you otherworldly beings, thereʼd be someone as efficient as you.”

”Although you didnʼt get to see that scene... by now you should be clear that someone like me, who can manipulate a horde of Abyssal Spawns, is absolutely someone you canʼt contend with. If it werenʼt for the fact that Iʼm being cautious on this island because I donʼt want to expose my true power in fear of the Sixth Island Lord going mad, I would have crushed you with one hand long ago!”

He said with a sigh, then continued, ”But... sharing that inheritance with one person, I can still accept that...”

”So, cooperating with me is your only choice—otherwise, I wouldnʼt mind just finishing you off directly.”

Hearing the other partyʼs arrogant words, Lin Yu laughed.

”Fine then, go ahead and finish me off.”

”Iʼd love to see exactly how you plan to do it!”
