Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 892: Meeting Old Yao Again

Although the Sixth Island, like most of the Misty Islands, was in a state of being ”vastly populated with sparse inhabitants,” with large swaths of the island lying in an ”abandoned” state.

But the Lord of the Sixth Island, having crawled out of ancient ruins, was indeed different from the other Misty Island lords - she had sent her islanders to clear out the roads across the entire island.

Fu Luo led King Vulture and the wounded Kitty along the cleared main road, examining the simple roadside signs planted along the way.

”That road leads to Cassetti... and this unmarked fork here should be the direction toward the ruins.”

Fu Luo made his judgment, then raised his head, observing the terrainʼs layout: ”Should be heading toward the High Ground... The ruins on the Sixth Island are up in the mountains?”

King Vulture shook her head: ”I wouldnʼt know about that.”

Kitty clearly didnʼt know either.

Fu Luo felt a pang of regret: ”I should have asked those fin-folk more questions when I had the chance... Though the location of the ruins and the cursed statues shouldnʼt be too hard to find, thereʼs still no lead on Old Yaoʼs whereabouts. That monster is truly despicable.”

All along the way, Fu Luo had been trying to use his [Detective] ability to search for ”clues about Old Yao,” but...

It had been fruitless every single time.

Fu Luo had originally thought that once he had his hands free, heʼd be able to use his ability to find some leads.

Then he could search based on those leads, and the difficulty would drop considerably - after all, there werenʼt many places on this island where a whole living person could be hidden.

But...

The world of the Misty Islands and the [Detective] class could practically be described as ”mutually reinforcing and mutually countering”!

In this world filled with countless mysteries, where every creature was extremely cunning, the [Detective]ʼs puzzle-solving ability could easily find breakthroughs.

But...

Precisely because the creatures of this world were so treacherous, it was also very easy to run into situations where no ”clues” could be found at all.

One failed activation after another had left Fu Luo feeling increasingly irritated.

”Damn it... What if I canʼt find Old Yao?”

Based on his judgment at the time, that monster couldnʼt possibly have killed Old Yao!

Whether it was through rational consideration of the monsterʼs abilities and stance, or based on his timely analysis, Old Yao should still be alive.

If Old Yao had truly met his end here, how would he face the mutual friend he and Old Yao shared when they got out?

Although Fu Luo hadnʼt received any ”commission” to look after Old Yao, the moment he saw Old Yao on the airship, a sense of responsibility and the thought of protecting him had taken root in Fu Luoʼs mind.

In his heart, Fu Luo had already formed the idea that if he still had no leads, he would set aside the inheritance and everything else, and prioritize finding Old Yao first.

It was just that...

If he did that, heʼd have to find a way to convince ”King Vulture”!

And just as Fu Luo was lost in thought...

His ability as a [Detective]... finally activated successfully!

A ”clue” pointing to Old Yaoʼs whereabouts appeared in his mind.

”Finally -!”

Fu Luo let out a long breath, then looked toward the direction the clue indicated.

”This way!”

He suddenly veered off the repaired road, plunging headfirst into the woods beside it.

Without explaining why, he simply acted.

King Vulture and Kitty hurried to follow - after the incident of repelling the starfish earlier, the two now had immense trust in Fu Luo.

Though Fu Luo hadnʼt explained the reason, they followed anyway.

Then, after weaving through the forest for a while, Fu Luo quickly found the direction the clue pointed toward.

It was a...

Forest pond.

Staring at the deep, calm pond, Fu Luoʼs expression shifted slightly.

”Could Old Yao be... underwater?”

Then is he even still alive?!

Could his earlier judgment have been wrong?!

Fu Luoʼs mind immediately jumped to the worst possibility.

King Vulture, watching Fu Luoʼs face dramatically change before the pond, spoke up.

”Furbollo... Whatʼs going on here?”

”My ability is telling me... Old Yaoʼs whereabouts are connected to this pond,” Fu Luo said with difficulty. ”He might be down there, underwater.”

King Vulture furrowed her brows slightly: ”What? Then should I check whatʼs down below?”

Fu Luo looked at King Vulture: ”You have the ability to operate underwater?”

King Vulture shook her head: ”I donʼt, but one of my Summoned Creatures does... However, because it has almost no combat power, I didnʼt release it when we were dealing with the starfish.”

”It can only be used as underwater reconnaissance.”

As she spoke, King Vulture pulled out a glass jar from behind her - inside, a water-dwelling creature resembling a salamander was lying there, fast asleep.

Fu Luo was about to agree to King Vultureʼs plan when he heard a voice from behind.

”Eh... Furbollo!”

”And King Vulture and Kitty - why are you all here!”

Fu Luo whipped his head around, and discovered a thin, dark-skinned, short man.

Then, a look of delighted surprise spread across Fu Luoʼs face.

”Old Yao?! Youʼre not dead!”

But then...

Fu Luo quickly became vigilant again: ”Wait, are you really Old Yao?”

”Genuine, no fakes,” the thin, dark man said, extending his hand, then spoke up. ”Take a look at your head, Furbollo.”

Fu Luo touched the top of his head and realized his newly swapped gray newsboy cap was gone.

On the other side, Old Yao twirled the cap on his finger, then tossed it lightly back.

”It really is you, Old Yao,” Fu Luo burst out laughing, because the [Class] abilities provided by the [Death Game] were the most impossible thing to fake or disguise - especially Skill Types like [Thief] - that kind of ability that activated directly without any special fluctuation was something not even the highest-ranking natives of the Ten Realms could imitate, so he confirmed that Old Yao was the real deal. ”Holy shit, I thought something had happened to you - you scared me half to death!”

Fu Luo finally let out a complete sigh of relief, then began asking about the details.

”The clue about your whereabouts pointed to this pond... Were you trapped down there before?”

But Old Yao across from Fu Luo - who was actually Lin Yu, having used [False Face] to switch back to Old Yaoʼs appearance - didnʼt directly answer the question.

”Seems like it, I guess. Earlier I felt all hazy, like Iʼd fallen asleep... When I regained a bit of consciousness, I found myself locked up underwater. Though it seemed someone had used some kind of technique to let me breathe without obstruction, it was still pretty terrifying,” Lin Yu said with a lingering sense of fear. ”Luckily, even without using my [Thief] ability, my skills are still there, so I relied on that remaining sliver of consciousness to pick the lock, and struggled my way up to the surface.”

”After swimming up, I climbed a tree with all my remaining strength and hid myself - it was that tree over there,” Lin Yu pointed at a lush tree behind him. ”I was up there slowly recovering my stamina and energy when I heard movement down below.”

”I poked my head out for a look, and it turned out to be you guys - what a coincidence!”

Kitty quickly spoke up: ”Itʼs not a coincidence, Lord Furbollo came all this way specifically to find you.”

”I see,” Lin Yu said gratefully. ”So... how did I end up on this island?”

”Was I attacked by a monster?”
