Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 879: Furbolloʼs True Strength!

Along the winding coastline of the Sixth Island, starfish continuously surged ashore one after another, crashing against the defensive line formed by the collaboration between Players and the residents of Frostedue.

The battle situation was extremely tense, with residents wielding various bone weapons and starfish alike falling ceaselessly.

Although there were no casualties among the Players, everyone was clearly going all out to hold back those starfish.

After all, anyone who had ever been to the Misty Islands knew...

While most of the native NPCs on the Misty Islands were often untrustworthy, and the Islanders of each island were far from friendly toward Players.

Here on the Misty Islands, the conflict between Abyssal Spawns and Players was even more irreconcilable.

These things had no consciousness at all, they were mindless monsters, driven purely by instinct like wild beasts.

And their instinct was a craving for souls.

Given that there were obviously no soulless beings among the Players, encountering Sea Spawns and fighting first was practically common sense.

So...

Except for Fern and the military otaku who hadnʼt joined the action, Nineteen and Fu Luo once again set aside their mutual differences and began fighting side by side with all their strength.

Including Fu Luo, who was observing the battle!

He stood with arms crossed, atop a rooftop behind the defensive line. Facing the questioning gazes of Chlorpromazine and King Vulture, Fu Luo simply shook his head.

”Me standing still is the greatest help I can give you all.”

Fu Luo wasnʼt lying.

With his frontal combat ability, rushing to the very front of the defensive line right now would only be causing trouble.

Rather than throwing himself away up there and hindering his teammatesʼ performance, it was better to stay back and watch.

Moreover, Fu Luo wasnʼt doing nothing at all.

He was seriously observing and analyzing the weaknesses of those starfish.

After all...

This attack came far too strangely, and the timing was neither too early nor too late.

Before they entered Frostedue, everything was calm, and even when they first arrived in Frostedue, there was no sign of trouble.

It wasnʼt until they walked to the seaside to negotiate with some seemingly friendly Islanders, when the group had fully penetrated deep into Frostedue, that the attack descended!

If this was a coincidence, it was far too convenient!

Although the starfishʼs targets were indeed clearly the residents of Frostedue, the mindless ”Abyssal Spawns” were extremely easy to manipulate and redirect.

So, Fu Luo strongly suspected whether this might be a trap aimed at them, the ones who had landed on the island.

After all...

The events on the airship had already proven that they werenʼt the only ones coveting the inheritance of the first-generation ”Freud.”

Among the native Islanders of the Misty Islands, many were also interested in it.

Although no Players had the time to set up anything on the Sixth Island, if some native had used these ”Abyssal Spawns” to lay a scheme, it wasnʼt impossible.

”Who exactly orchestrated all this...”

Fu Luo pondered, his gaze locked onto the battle line.

As for whether his delayed action would arouse suspicion among the other Players, that was no longer within Fu Luoʼs scope of concern.

Anyway... In Fu Luoʼs view, although he had leveraged the reputation that person had somehow managed to secure for him, gaining status throughout the entire Sleepless City that he didnʼt truly deserve, and successfully bluffing many people.

But once these rumors spread among the Players, he certainly couldnʼt fool everyone forever.

Sooner or later, the truth would come out, so it didnʼt matter if it was exposed today.

On this point, Fu Luo had always been quite open-minded.

Rather than wasting brainpower on that kind of matter, it was better to think about how to deal with those starfish.

After all...

This time, he had come carrying the mission of ”Order.”

Moreover, Old Yao still hadnʼt been found!

The other party had genuinely saved him once, though saying it was saving his life might be a stretch, it definitely counted as rescuing him from a tight spot.

Although the other party had only come to save him because of Lin Yuʼs connection...

But precisely because of that connection with Lin Yu, Fu Luo found it even more impossible to ignore his plight.

Now that the other party was in trouble, Fu Luo had to find out his whereabouts on this island as soon as possible.

And if he could play a major role in repelling this wave of starfish, he would surely win the respect and trust of Frostedueʼs residents.

Although the residents of Frostedue on this Sixth Island all seemed to be outsiders, there was no denying there were a lot of them.

If he wanted to find a person on this island, building good relations with them was definitely the right move.

Moreover... According to the worst-case scenario, if Old Yao had truly met with some misfortune.

Fu Luo alone would find it difficult to eliminate the monster that killed him.

He knew well that his strength lay in leveraging othersʼ power... So, he absolutely had to build good relations with more natives to borrow their strength.

Fu Luo watched the starfish on the shore with increasing intensity.

Soon, within his observation...

Fu Luo finally spotted a clue and a flaw.

Behind those endless waves of starfish monsters surging ashore, deep within the fog-shrouded sea...

The monsters themselves had no issues, but the mist and the seawater were somewhat abnormal.

Fu Luo pulled a straw hat from his chest.

”I get it now... So thatʼs how these monsters came about!”

As Fu Luo spoke, Nineteen, who was ahead putting on a show of using all his strength while actually holding back, heard Fu Luoʼs muttered realization not far behind him and narrowed his eyes.

”So thatʼs it... Heʼs been holding back all this time precisely to intimidate the one hidden in the shadows, the one who lured these ʼAbyssal Spawnsʼ here, and to locate his hiding place.”

”The other party hasnʼt made a move either, probably intimidated by this ʼFurbolloʼ whoʼs been watching over the battle... After all, my disguise is so perfect, the other party couldnʼt possibly have sensed my hidden aura and dared not act rashly.”

”So, this ʼNinjaʼ from the ʼPsychological Societyʼ and that ʼNight Watchmanʼ guy truly have no idea whatʼs going on, they actually think ʼFurbolloʼ is deliberately slacking off... Tsk, though it makes sense, theyʼre just two small fries after all, their insight really isnʼt that sharp.”

”But... This ʼFurbolloʼ is even more formidable than I imagined. Although heʼs only ʼFirst-Tier,ʼ it seems he has far more hidden tricks up his sleeve than I thought.”

”Indeed, any Player who has made a name for themselves is no simple character,” Nineteen marveled. ”Judging by this, the fact that he only recently advanced to ʼFirst-Tierʼ might actually be some special playstyle or school of thought that accumulates strength before releasing it all at once.”

”If it werenʼt for the importance of the first-generation ʼFreudʼsʼ inheritance, and ʼOrderʼ sending him out, he probably could have kept hiding even longer. Now it seems that defeating ʼZhu Rongʼ in Sleepless City and meddling in the struggle between the Head of the Mercury Family and the Head of the Sleepless Night Family might not have been his full power either.”

Thinking this, Nineteen couldnʼt help but feel excited.

”This trip to the Misty Islands was definitely worth it!”
