Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 806: Breaking the Siege

Kuiʼs actions naturally put the Holy Flame Church members on high alert.

Those priests and knights, clad in white robes and armor, both emblazoned with the ”Holy Flame” emblem, all tried to block ”Kui.”

”Hey, donʼt go in!”

”Who are you?! Stop what youʼre doing immediately!”

”What youʼre doing is dangerous!”

Warnings rang out one after another, and some tried to stop Kui with lance shafts and long staves.

But Kui managed to nimbly slip through the gaps every time, and the movements of those trying to block her always had openings.

Even though she was carrying a large canvas on her back, it didnʼt affect Kuiʼs agility at all.

”Damn it, why does she just do whatever she wants?” Lin Yu couldnʼt help asking.

”This is the effect of her [Third-Person Perspective],” Phoenix explained. ”Actually, itʼs not that powerful. It just turns her own ʼvisionʼ into a ʼthird-person perspectiveʼ... like how youʼd control a characterʼs movements when playing a third-person game.”

”But for Kui, she can use this skill in perfect synergy with her own abilities.”

This didnʼt seem to be some closely guarded secret, so Phoenix directly told Lin Yu.

And with this nimble maneuvering, Kui soon entered the encirclement.

Then, she jumped straight onto the base of the goddess statue and raised her hands high.

”Brother Qi, Fish, I think weʼd better not make a big scene here.”

”Look... this [dungeon] has five players total, and the four of us are all ʼThird Tierʼ,” Kui said. Though she seemed outgoing, she got straight to the point. ”So this [dungeon] might have some quirk. Weʼd better not start a fight with the Holy Flame Church here... that wouldnʼt help us clear it!”

Clearly, both Fish and the player called ”Brother Qi” had some history with Kui.

Hearing her persuasion, the two also gave her some face.

*Poof!*

Brother Qi crushed the fireball in his hand and said helplessly, ”Even if weʼre willing to stand down, the Holy Flame Church isnʼt going to let this go!”

”A pharmaceutical workshop under the Church was attacked, and a batch of ʼSacred Potionsʼ went missing... Fish and I spawned near there at the start, so the Church people assumed we were the suspects.”

”I donʼt have deep roots in this realm, so thatʼs one thing, but Fish is clearly a veteran adventurer...”

As Brother Qi spoke, Fish spat.

”Pah, this bunch of churchgoers... all three major churches, whether Merciful Flame, Holy Flame, or Eternal, are a pack of bastards!”

”They just have it out for adventurers, donʼt they? Lost some potions, so they want to frame someone!”

”A bunch of useless idiots who canʼt catch the real culprit, trying to grab someone to pin the crime on and vent their anger? Well, today theyʼve picked the wrong target!”

Even though Fish had put away her spear, she still didnʼt let up verbally.

And she spoke loudly, deliberately making sure the Holy Flame Church members and onlookers heard her clearly.

So the Holy Flame Church members were a bit embarrassed.

Within the encirclement, an older knight in heavy armor, the only one without a helmet and with blonde hair, spoke sternly.

”Watch your tongue, adventurer! You are slandering the reputation of the Holy Flame Church!”

”Even if you have nothing to do with the theft of the Sacred Potions, that statement alone has violated our dogmatic precepts!”

Clearly, he was the commander of this escort operation.

As the tension rose again, Kui turned to persuade the locals.

”Oh, itʼs just a few words. Donʼt make such a big deal out of it—if youʼre this serious, it just makes the Holy Flame Church look petty, doesnʼt it?”

”Besides, we can vouch for these two friends, and weʼre willing to do so. Thereʼs absolutely no way they stole the ʼSacred Potions.ʼ”

The blonde knight frowned. ”May I ask who you are?”

”Who I am doesnʼt matter. What matters is... over there are my companions—Phoenix and Schreiber!”

Kui waved.

Phoenix and Lin Yu were already standing at the edge of the encirclement.

By the time Phoenix smoothly pulled out her credentials, the older knight had already recognized her.

”I know you. Youʼre the friend of Bishop Fato of Kesor City, Lady Phoenix, known as the ʼRed Sageʼ,” his tone softened slightly. ”You may not know this, but when we arrived at the scene of todayʼs theft, these two friends of yours were inside that blasted warehouse. It wasnʼt simply a matter of passing by...”

The older knightʼs voice grew quieter as his gaze gradually shifted to Lin Yu beside Phoenix.

He saw the other man fiddling with the gleaming golden cross medal on his chest, and his expression grew increasingly serious.

”However, since youʼre all willing to vouch for them, an exception can be made. This matter is indeed full of doubts... but procedurally, Iʼm afraid...”

Hearing the knightʼs change of tone, Phoenix glanced at Lin Yu, then stepped forward a few paces, parting the crowd.

”Then consider it as transferring them to our custody. Let them move with us, which can be a form of surveillance,” Phoenix said calmly. ”Weʼll be staying in the city for the next few days. If you find any substantial evidence... even if it truly proves our friends are the culprits behind the theft, you can contact us through the Tribunal of Heresy.”

”Weʼll naturally send them back for trial—I believe you can trust me and my friend on that, canʼt you?”

As she spoke, Phoenix walked up to the knight.

Though the knight was extremely tall in his heavy armor, and Phoenix, already tall for a woman, was still half a head shorter than him...

At this moment, Phoenixʼs aura completely overwhelmed him.

”Weʼll do as you say.”

He gritted out this sentence, then raised his hand.

”Withdraw!”

The Holy Flame Church members immediately re-formed from their encirclement into a column and marched away in the direction of the church on the other side of Lilee City.

As the encirclement dispersed, Brother Qi inside let out a sigh of relief and lit a new cigarette.

Fish also jumped down from the goddess statueʼs palm, snatched the cigarette from Brother Qiʼs hand, crushed it out, poured water from a glass bottle over it, and then threw it on the ground.

”I was going to say this earlier. If youʼre going to smoke, put away those explosive barrels first. If you want to blow yourself up, donʼt drag me into it!”

As Fish spoke, Brother Qi stored the barrels one by one into his [Item Space].

”These are just for show. Theyʼre deep-sea gunpowder barrels that have gotten damp. Even if you set a fire directly to them, they wonʼt ignite, let alone explode.”

”Donʼt worry, Fish. I value my life way more than you do!”
