Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot

Chapter 398: Chapter 397, Yancy Hastings, You Are in a Tragedy

At Samuel Peary’s words, the entire living room of the old mansion fell silent. Everyone held their breath and began to question their own hearing.

What on earth had Samuel Peary let slip?

He proposed?

And was rejected by Silvia Waterborne?

Why!?

Every eye turned to Silvia Waterborne, including Maxwell Peary’s.

Silvia Waterborne clenched her fists tightly, her unblemished and wrinkle-free face serious and resolute.

”Why should two people without feelings for each other be tied together?”

This was the response Silvia Waterborne gave, the same answer she had given Samuel Peary all those years ago.

”At that time, Evelyn Peary had just been born. Your refusal then was irresponsible toward the child. What right do you, as a mother, have to involve yourself in this matter?”

Silvia Waterborne clenched her fists, uncomfortable with the sudden attention she was receiving, despite usually being the center of it.

”Enough of this! I said I won’t marry, and I won’t!”

Evelyn Peary, unable to bear it any longer, shouted, pushing Yancy Hastings away and preparing to storm off, only to be quickly caught by him.

”What are you grabbing me for? I won’t marry!”

Evelyn Peary, furious, aimed a kick at Yancy Hastings’s shin.

THUD! The sound was loud. After kicking him with her high heel, she paused.

He... Why didn’t he dodge? With Yancy Hastings’s skill, how could he not have dodged that?

”Stop causing a scene.”

Yancy Hastings frowned, finding her unreasonable behavior hard to bear.

”The betrothal gifts have been accepted, and I’ve submitted the marriage report to my superiors. It should be approved next week. We’ll get the certificate first.”

Yancy Hastings spoke insistently, his grip on her wrist still firm.

”As for the wedding, I’m sorry. Due to my current work situation, I can’t hold it in the short term. We’ll have it after the child is born.”

This wasn’t just his decision but the result of discussions within the entire Hastings family. Their visit tonight was primarily to show their respect for the Peary Clan, not to retrieve the betrothal gifts.

”Maxwell, rest assured, I’ll be good to your sister.”

His character was sound, and Maxwell Peary had known him for quite some time. Maxwell Peary was indeed reassured on this point.

If it had been before, he would surely have agreed to this marriage. But...

Glancing at Nia Mitchell standing next to him, he suddenly felt that forcing two people without feelings for each other to live together would be torment.

He suddenly realized that Evelyn Peary’s marriage should be her own decision to make.

”I’m sorry, but Evelyn Peary should be the one to decide on her own marriage.”

If she was willing, then there was nothing about Yancy Hastings to cause concern. If she was unwilling, then he wouldn’t force her.

Yancy Hastings seemed stunned by Maxwell Peary’s response; based on his understanding of him over many years, Maxwell Peary wasn’t someone who would reject this marriage.

So why had he said something so unexpected today?

In contrast to Yancy Hastings’s shock, Evelyn Peary was overjoyed, attributing all the credit for this to Nia Mitchell.

Thank goodness her big brother was married! Now, for anything, she could turn to her future sister-in-law. With just one word from Nia, her big brother would surely obey. HAHA, how had she never noticed before how good her big brother would be to his future wife? She decided that from then on, she would treat her future sister-in-law well and take her out often.

”Yancy Hastings, my big brother, future sister-in-law, and Mom are all on my side! You can marry whoever you want, just let me go!”
