Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot

Chapter 217: Chapter 216: How Powerful is Phoebe Walker’s Background?

No one was quite sure about Phoebe Walker’s true identity, and several rumors circulated within the Company. Some said she was Maxwell Peary’s fiancée, but her demeanor suggested otherwise. Others claimed she was the daughter of a Company director. In any case, the opinions were so divergent it was hard to verify anything.

”But there is one version that seems most plausible. Do you want to know?” Diana Hill lowered her voice.

Nia Mitchell nodded. Since she had asked, she naturally wanted to know the answer.

”It’s rumored that Phoebe Walker is the daughter of Liam Walker,” Diana said in a hushed voice, afraid of being overheard. ”He used to be a business tycoon but suddenly exited the business world for unknown reasons. It’s speculated that his fortune definitely ranks among the world’s top ten.”

Nia frowned. A business tycoon? Isn’t that an exaggeration?

”Logically, then, she shouldn’t be short of money. Why would she work as a mere secretary at MC Group?”

Isn’t that quite strange? Could there be an ulterior motive?

Diana shook her head at this, looking completely helpless. ”Everyone knows our CEO Maxwell, also known as Young Master Peary in Capital Town, is incredibly handsome and wealthy. He wields tremendous power and influence in both legitimate and underground circles, commanding respect from everyone. He’s undoubtedly the ideal son-in-law candidate for the Walker Family.”

Only someone like Maxwell Peary was worthy of being the Walker Family’s son-in-law. Indeed, Liam Walker had this exact intention, which was why he had Phoebe Walker work as a secretary at MC Group. The position of secretary might seem to require little technical expertise, yet it paradoxically demands a great deal of subtle skill. There’s no room for promotion, yet it’s the job that positions one closest to Maxwell Peary.

”But does Young Master Peary like her?”

Nia pouted. Uncle Peary was already married. Besides, Phoebe Walker had been at the Company for a long time without managing to win over the CEO. There couldn’t possibly be any feelings between them.

Just then, Alan Morgan appeared at the Grand Gate Entrance, arm in arm with Shirley Grant, looking very intimate.

”Wow, look over there.”

Not far away, a few colleagues from the Secretary Department were gathered. Seeing the scene at the entrance, they pointed and whispered amongst themselves.

Alan Morgan could be considered Maxwell Peary’s representative. His appearance implied Maxwell Peary’s own. Therefore, as soon as he stepped through the Grand Gate, many people, red wine glasses in hand, quickly surrounded him.

Seeing so many people approach, he frowned slightly, glanced at Shirley Grant beside him, whispered a few words to her, and then released her arm. Shirley Grant nodded and headed in Nia’s direction.

Nia was startled. She suddenly remembered Shirley Grant seeing her and Maxwell Peary holding hands on Friday night.

Why did she come here? Shirley Grant used to hang out with those from the Secretary Department; many of her friends were in Group B. Why didn’t she choose to be with the people from Group B?

”Maybe she’s just passing by our place.”

Nia didn’t think Shirley Grant was coming to join them.

Shirley Grant had spent the entire day trying to process what she’d learned the previous night. She could hardly believe that this young woman, who hadn’t even officially graduated, was Young Master Peary’s wife. Heavens, I’d even thought I might be silenced for knowing this secret! It was truly difficult to imagine Nia Mitchell and Maxwell Peary together.

Earlier, Alan Morgan had asked her to go over, talk to Nia, and keep an eye on her, as Nia had never attended such a banquet before.
