I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 399, Catch It

*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!* Yan Hua threw three Beast Bone Spears in succession, aiming them towards the direction of the whirlpools.

After the three spears were thrown, the river surface began showing some red.

Subsequently, the red blood spread to more areas until a large patch became visible.

Such signs indicated successful hits, as those targeted creatures had met their fate. The bloody scent would have attracted the other Giant Salamanders to devour the struck ones, so they needed to be quickly retrieved them from the water.

“Shaman, look! I caught them! Three in total!” Yan Hua happily waved the Giant Salamander in her hand.

Su Bai looked at those Giant Salamanders without much surprise, as they were not too different from the salamanders on Earth.

However, they were twice the size, and their colour was more solidly black, unlike the reddish-brown ones on Earth.

The overall appearance also had slight variations, namely the presence of tentacles. So, they somewhat resemble catfish as well.

“Good, set them aside, we’ll take them back to eat tonight.” Su Bai was already imagining how they taste. After all, he had never tasted salamander meat before and did not know what meat it would taste similar to.

“Shaman, then I’ll go catch some more.” Yan Hua had become interested and carried more Beast Bone Spears to catch more Giant Salamanders.

Others did the same, all carrying Beast Bone Spears and setting out, planning to catch more Giant Salamanders to take back.

“How does Giant Salamander taste?” Su Bai asked, finding someone suitable to chat with.

Yu Ying thought for a moment, and after a while said, “I don’t know. I’ve never eaten one before.”

Although Yu Ying was now a Shaman Priestess, she was not one last year. Though her status was never very low, it was not high enough to be allocated Giant Salamander meat.

“Then you can try it tonight,” Su Bai smiled.

He knew that the Tribe had class distinctions. If one’s status was not high enough, they would not be allocated the good meat. Sometimes, they would not be guaranteed meat at all.

Even in Primitive Society, status was important. If Yu Ying was not a Shaman Priestess, she probably would not be able to taste Giant Salamander meat this year either.

“Yes.” Yu Ying nodded expectantly, her pink pupils constantly blinking, happily imagining the taste of the Giant Salamander meat.

People on the riverside continued throwing Beast Bone Spears toward the river surface, everyone’s face showing joy.

It seemed as if the previous attack from the Poison Insects had not affected them at all. Their eyes were still focused on the creatures in the river.

Whirlpools continued forming on the river surface, as various fish and amphibians had been attracted by the scent of blood.

Giant Salamanders were contentedly poking their heads above the water surface, blinking their mouths with satisfied expressions.

Just as these Giant Salamanders were still immersed in their satisfying delight, a blood-red huge mouth devoured one Giant Salamander.

*Boom!* With a thunderous sound, the Giant Salamander was devoured in a flash, leaving others unable to react.

The Giant Salamander, that was just enjoying its meal, disappeared, leaving rippling circles.

“Was that some kind of Ferocious Beast just now?” Su Bai had caught a glimpse of a blood-red gigantic jaw, with many sharp teeth, in that instant.

“It seems… seems like it was a River Crocodile King,” Yan Hua also recalled what she had just witnessed.

That scene was familiar, as she had seen such a creature during the rainy season last year.

At that time, she heard Father say it was a River Crocodile King, much larger than a Stone Armoured Crocodile. They were also far more ferocious.

Its entire body was comparable to Earth’s hippopotamus. They were extremely large, with a huge mouth that could bite off an entire person when opened.

“A River Crocodile King? It looks large. How many of them are there?” Su Bai asked.

The scene that just occurred was too unexpected.

“Not many, because River Crocodile Kings are very aggressive, so it’s rare to see two River Crocodile Kings in one section of the river.” Yan Hua said.

This was something she had heard from her Father, when he talked about River Crocodile Kings. He always says they must be avoided at all costs.

River Crocodile Kings’ lethality was simply too overbearing. Once bitten, there was no hope for survival.

Their bite force and lethality were on the whole another level. If one were not willing to give up their bitten foot and leg, they would be giving their life.

“I see. Let’s catch it,” Su Bai said with a smile.

When that River Crocodile King appeared earlier, he had this thought of this already. It could be used for food, and its hide for other uses. In short, this was a resource they could harvest!

“Catch a River Crocodile King?” Yan Hua was stunned, as her Father had clearly said they must be avoided. Yet, the Shaman now wants to catch one?

“Yes, I want a River Crocodile King… I want to eat it tonight.” Su Bai smiled.

From what Su Bai knew, crocodile meat tastes good, especially a crocodile of this size. Their meat should taste even better.

“Alright, I’ll do it.” Yan Hua immediately grabbed a Beast Bone Spear and her military knife, appearing eager to try.

Su Bai held her back, saying, “Not you. Wait until you become a Totem Warrior before you try to challenge one of them.”

He did not want her to die in vain. The River Crocodile King was too large for her to handle. She alone definitely could not catch it.

“But don’t you want it?” Yan Hua was stunned.

“Let Ye Jiu and Sha Hong go. You just focus on catching more Giant Salamanders.” Su Bai instructed.

Yan Hua rotated her red pupils, thinking it made sense. Although she wanted to try, the River Crocodile King was a Ferocious Beast, after all. She definitely could not put up a decent fight against it.

She nodded and said, “I understand, I’ll stay here to protect the Shaman then.”
