I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 380, Potatoes

Su Bai slowly opened his black eyes, awakened by the pitter-patter of the rain outside.

Recently, he had been waking up earlier than usual, and sleeping more comfortably.

The previous night, he fell asleep listening to the rain and thunder outside, which created the perfect environment for sleeping.

Night was accompanied by nothing but rain and thunder, for some reason, it felt only natural to sleep. This seemed to improve the quality of his sleep as well. Upon waking, there was no feeling of tiredness or exhaustion, but rather a refreshed sensation.

“A month-long rainy season should help make up for all my deficit sleeping hours.” Su Bai said drowsily.

When he first transmigrated here, he had not slept well at all. During that period, his quality of sleep was horrendous.

He would easily be woken up. There was constant noise outside, and there were mosquitoes inside the Teepee. It was truly maddening.

Su Bai did not immediately throw off his blanket to get up, as the feeling of lying in bed was quite pleasant.

He decided to check in and open his Assistance Package while in bed, wanting to see what items he would receive today.

After hearing the System’s voice fade, Su Bai’s black eyes widened slightly as he exclaimed excitedly. “Did I hear that correctly?”

Potatoes were excellent items – filling, nutritious, and valuable. They could not only serve as crops for eating but could be made into many different kinds of food.

Moreover, a single potato plant could produce no small number of potatoes. If cultivated extensively, they could potentially serve as a staple food.

They were different from sweet potatoes, in that regular potatoes could serve as a true staple as carbohydrates.

Potatoes were as important as sweet potatoes and could serve as crucial military food reserves during wartime.

Su Bai could not suppress the smile on his face as he looked at the bag of potatoes that had appeared in his hands.

Counting roughly, there were over twenty potatoes. This was enough to keep several for eating and plant the rest.

After all, now that he had the Growth Acceleration Skill, it would be impossible for the potatoes to fail after planting. They would develop well with just a bit of ‘encouragement’ from his Growth Acceleration Skill.

Furthermore, now that they had greenhouses, these potatoes could be planted immediately, completely avoiding the effects of the rainy season.

“This is great, let’s have potatoes for breakfast, and plant the rest…” Su Bai muttered happily to himself.

He got up and looked at himself in the full-length mirror, noticing his Physique seemed more robust than before.

He looked different from when he first transmigrated – slightly taller, and his build appeared more solid.

[Is it just my imagination?] Su Bai frowned.

He reached under his sleepwear and touched his stomach, surprisingly discovering he had abs.

“What!?” Su Bai wondered if he was still dreaming. He lifted his shirt in front of the mirror.

What met his eyes were defined abs, though not extremely prominent, they were definitely there!

Running his hand over them, he could clearly feel the ridges. [Are you kidding me?]

His stomach had not been particularly large before, but he definitely did not have abs. The fact that abs had appeared now was truly incredible.

“Perhaps my Physique after transmigration has gradually strengthened. Well, I do use Shaman Technique every day, so my body has gradually changed I guess…” Su Bai murmured to himself.

This was the only reasonable explanation he could think of now – using his Shaman Power consumed a lot of energy each day. Developing abs made sense in a way(?), and after some more time, maybe his arms would also thicken?

[If this continues, I should eventually awaken as a Totem Warrior.]

He lowered his clothes, changed into another set of linen clothing, and picked up the bag of potatoes, preparing to leave the room.

*Creak!* Su Bai opened the door and walked to the hall, where he saw the fox eared girl coming up the stairs.

“Shaman, you’re awake. I’ll prepare your breakfast right away,” Yu Ying immediately said.

“Let’s make something different for breakfast today, let’s fry some potatoes.” Su Bai said.

Back on Earth, he sometimes ate hash browns from a certain famous western restaurant chain for breakfast.

However, the preparation method for that was too complicated. So, he thought of simply frying potato chucks.

“Potatoes? You mean sweet potatoes?” Yu Ying asked.

Su Bai handed over two potatoes and said, “These are potatoes, they’re similar to sweet potatoes.”

Upon hearing they were similar to sweet potatoes, but different, Yu Ying’s pink eyes immediately grew wide.

She loved eating roasted sweet potatoes. She considered them the most delicious food in the world.

Now, upon hearing that potatoes were similar to sweet potatoes, her face was full of anticipation, eager to try roasting these two potatoes.

“Shaman, are roasted potatoes also very delicious?” Yu Ying asked expectantly.

“I’ve never directly thrown potatoes into charcoal fire to roast them before. So, I don’t really know how they taste. I’m actually talking about another method to make these potatoes delicious.” Su Bai said with a slight smile.

Of course, there was not just one or two ways to cook potatoes – there were countless ways.

It was just given the Primitive Tribe’s current conditions, they could not make anything too fancy.

For instance, they could fry, deep-fry, boil, or roast them, though they would taste different from Earth’s potato beef stew or potato braised meat.

However, these different tastes were fine – each had its own uniqueness and flavour. Once the Tribe’s cattle and sheep were raised, making potato beef stew would be a matter of minutes.

“What method?” Yu Ying was already imagining the taste of the potato.

“Pan-fried potato chunks,” Su Bai smiled.

“Okay,” Yu Ying immediately nodded.
