Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 943: Chapter 399: Divinity Really Is Handy (Part 2)

Amidst the sound of gears turning, two enormous mechanical wings unfolded from the back of the lion-shaped Mechanical Beast.

It swung its steel wings and soared into the air.

The Heart of the Sky endowed it with the power of flight.

Wu Chang, regardless of whether Olivia could hear, muttered as if talking to himself:

”Technology is still too backward. It’s just flight, no need to make such a big commotion.”

As he switched the Peace Envoy to combat mode, propulsion units extended from its back and feet, lifting him into the sky.

「Item Skills: All-Domain Combat Armor.」

「Skill Description: Peace Envoy, as an all-domain combat armor, is suitable for land, air, and water sorties. The device can supplement internal energy using any type of power source.」

Olivia saw that the Peace Envoy could also fly, abandoning the idea of attacking from above and directly launched a cannon attack on it.

The lion-shaped Mechanical Beast extended barrels from every part of its body. Particularly, its gaping lion’s mouth revealed a massive cannon muzzle nearly a meter in diameter.

These cannons glowed with a faint blue sheen, absorbing steam rule power from the air into their muzzles, transforming it into energy.

As far as cannon manufacturing is concerned, Drew’s ”Extraordinary Cannon Machine Tools” crafted extraordinary cannons that are undoubtedly the pinnacle of the Steam Phantom Plane.

The cannons used by the lion-shaped Mechanical Beast were special cannons manufactured internally by the Extraordinary Cannon Machine Tools, enhanced by the Heart of the Land for increased cannon power and firing speed, the destructive power brought by Steam Explosives, and the Demon-Breaking Mark printed by the Extraordinary Pressing Machine on the shells.

The combined force of multiple Extraordinary Steam Engines stacked the cannon damage to an extremely terrifying level.

Especially the power of the main cannon in the lion’s mouth, even Wu Chang, piloting the Peace Envoy, felt threatened by it.

He wasn’t about to stand as a target, taking a round of cannon fire. The Peace Envoy was the exclusive item imbued with He Yun’s affection, and couldn’t be damaged in order to test its strength by Olivia.

He kept a close eye on the cannon muzzle of the lion-shaped Mechanical Beast, waiting until just before the shells were about to fire, then exerted himself fully to ascend the Peace Envoy, evading the volley of cannon shots.

Wu Chang realized that bosses in the Steam Phantom Plane, whenever they had power, preferred to use blanket firepower.

First the Executioner, then Xavier, now Olivia—it was the same move.

As soon as the blanket firepower mode was activated, ammunition seemed limitless.

He piloted the Peace Envoy in the sky, executing rapid stops and evasive maneuvers, relying on strong agility to dodge 95% of the bullets.

A few stray bullets were blocked just in time by him.

Soon, he noticed Olivia changed tactics, likely following the protocol from the Differential Machine, making the shooting path more obstructed.

Continuously pressuring his actions, as he had nowhere to evade, the main cannon in the lion’s mouth fired.

A massive energy beam, mixed with nearly solid steam rule power, blasted towards the Peace Envoy.

With evasion becoming difficult, Wu Chang initiated the Peace Envoy’s energy barrier while activating its Divine Mode.

「Item Skills: Divine Mode」

「Skill Description: Disabling the internal limiter of the Peace Envoy, entering Divine Mode, obtaining Demigod status. When internal stored divinity is exhausted, it automatically exits Divine Mode. If the pilot possesses divinity, it magnifies the divine effect. In Divine Mode, energy consumption is three times that of normal mode.」

The massive beam of rule power struck the Peace Envoy’s energy barrier. After a brief tranquility, a huge explosion followed.

The enormous shockwave from the explosion shattered the glass walls of the Crystal Palace adjacent to the battlefield, even hundreds of meters away.

Along with the spreading shockwave, steam transformed from steam rule power engulfed the entire battlefield.

This uncontrolled steam rule power, even Olivia couldn’t manipulate, obstructing her vision and forcing a short cooldown in her cannon fire.

She looked warily towards Wu Chang’s location; the last shot felt like it hit him, but she couldn’t ascertain the damage it caused to the Peace Envoy.

She tried asking the Differential Machine, but its answer was void.

What’s the meaning, did this shot directly evaporate the Peace Envoy?

If Wu Chang knew what Olivia was thinking, he would correct her, ”No, the Differential Machine is telling you that, there’s only smoke, no harm, the damage is void.”

In the Divine Mode of the Peace Envoy, the device’s existence equates to a demigod, incorporating divine power in the energy barrier used.

The special shell of steam rule, steam explosive, and Demon-Breaking Mark combined, if directly hitting any ranked player, even if not suppressing their abilities, would instantly evaporate them.

But faced with an energy barrier containing divinity, it only reduced Wu Chang’s divine power by five bars.

「Current stored divinity: 95/100.」

Such a nearly-peak strike of the Power of Root, hitting a demigod, could only cause so little damage.

Wu Chang viewed the Peace Envoy’s Divine Energy Bar, silently thinking, divinity is indeed useful, the gold content in ”Only a god can defeat a god” increases.

Olivia’s shot not only highlighted the gap between mortals and deities but also revealed one thing: Olivia hadn’t amassed divinity.

If Xavier were piloting the lion-shaped Mechanical Beast, taking this shot would at least reduce Peace Envoy’s divinity by 20 points.
