”And the purse, handkerchief, and shoes’ embroidery work are actually quite remarkable...” Yuan Mengzu couldn’t be bothered to guess at what Chen Family’s matriarch was thinking and continued to examine the gifts, ”They’re also suitable for little girls to wear and use...”

”These were embroidered by my niece, Xiangxiang.” Dai Chenshi hurriedly smiled upon hearing this, ”The child is modest but skilled at needlework, and over the years with me feeling unwell, she has been by my side to alleviate my boredom. Upon hearing that Miss Yang was seeking relatives, she stayed up all night to make these...”

Not one madam present was naive; as soon as Chen Family’s matriarch entered with an unfamiliar girl, everyone knew what she intended. She hadn’t given up; her own daughter had committed an indecency and couldn’t show her face, so she brought her niece instead. It seemed she was not ready to let go of the marital connection with the Fang Family.

But why bother with today if one knew of yesterday?

Rejected the marriage when the other side was down on their luck, and coming back when they’re on the rise? Did they consider themselves Silver, loved by all?

”Miss Chen indeed looks quite lovely,” Cai Wenjuan smiled, ”I wonder if she is betrothed?”

Chen Xiangxiang lowered her head, appearing very shy.

”Not yet.” Dai Chenshi immediately beamed with joy, ”My brother has already married off two daughters; only this youngest one remains. We wanted to keep her for a few more years, but before you know it, she has reached the age to discuss marriage...”

”Oh my, that is wonderful. Why don’t I act as your go-between for a matchmaking?” Cai Wenjuan laughed heartily.

”That would be splendid; the girl has high standards, and if Madam Fang were to be the matchmaker, I believe it would be excellent...” Dai Chenshi’s heart leapt with joy, ”This child is a real gem...”

”Madam Li, didn’t you mention a while ago that a distant cousin of yours had a son who was seeking a wife?” Cai Wenjuan directly addressed the plump Madam Li, ”I think Miss Chen the third would be just perfect...”

Chen Xiangxiang’s body stiffened momentarily, but since she was looking down, her expression couldn’t be seen. However, it was clear she felt devastated.

”Yes, indeed,” Madam Li’s eyes brightened upon hearing that, ”That boy is also quite good, his family is wealthy, and while he is a bit simple, I think if Miss Chen the third is willing...”

”Heh heh...” Dai Chenshi suddenly felt as if something was stuck in her chest, unable to move up or down, ”That is, she is still young, we could wait another couple of years before discussing it...”

The moment Madam Li heard this, her face darkened: ”Madam Dai, what is that supposed to mean? Do you think my cousin’s son is not good enough for you or what?”

”Not at all,” Dai Chenshi hastily waved her hands, ”But such matters of marriage must be decided by her parents... I will ask my brother and his wife...”

”Alright, then I’ll be waiting for Madam Dai’s message,” Madam Li said, her mouth twitching slightly, her expression softening.

Cai Wenjuan gave Yuan Mengzhu a wink; Yuan Mengzhu smiled silently, the aunt and niece pair were quite in sync.

Yang Ruxin thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle, finding these palace and domestic intrigues quite fascinating, though they were certainly mentally exhausting.

Afterward, the atmosphere lightened, and everyone ate merrily, especially when discussing the medicinal tea provided by Yang Ruxin. As for Dai Chenshi and Miss Chen the third, it was as if they were chewing wax, barely enduring until the end before hastily taking their leave.

”I’ve never seen such thick-skinned people,” Cai Wenjuan uttered coldly, ”What was that all about?”

Yang Ruxin laughed; she was very fond of this grandaunt of hers.

”By the way, Xinxin,” Cai Wenjuan suddenly remembered something, ”The Yuan Family wants to discuss a business collaboration with you...”
