The Feng Shui Treasure Appraiser

175: Chapter 175 Defaulting on a DebtTwo wooden nails that were almost identical.

One was in Han Jingyang’s hand.

One was stuck in the ground.

Nothing was said.

Yet everything had been said.

What was going on?

Did he even need to ask?

They had hired two Feng Shui Masters for the same job.

It happened often.

Some clients were afraid that the Feng Shui Master they hired wouldn’t be reliable, so they would find two to work on the task together.

In ancient times, this would have broken the rules.

In modern times, people didn’t really care about the rules anymore; as long as the money was paid, it was fine.

Therefore, Han Jingyang didn’t wait for the embarrassed-looking Liu Qing to explain. He waved his hand and tossed away the peach wood nail in his hand: ”Mr. Liu, my task is considered complete, right?”

”Yes, yes, yes, it’s complete, it’s complete,” Liu Qing nodded hurriedly: ”Mr. Han, I...”

”There’s no need to say anything, I understand. It’s not like the old days; this is a transaction. Money for services, nothing more to discuss,” Han Jingyang brushed the dust off his hands: ”Alright, since the transaction is complete and you have no objections, let’s settle the bill. I can still make it back in time for lunch.”

”No need to rush, no need to rush. We’ve prepared a banquet at home. I’ll toast you a few times in a moment to apologize.”

”That’s unnecessary.”

Han Jingyang was thoroughly disgusted.

He never wanted to deal with this family again.

Eat?

He would rather go hungry than step foot in their house again.

Angry?

Not really.

It was just disdain and disgust.

Disdain for this person’s petty cleverness.

Disgust for this person’s affectation.

But just as Liu Qing was about to transfer the money, Liu Jian stepped forward, blocked Liu Qing behind him, and cupped his hands toward Han Jingyang: ”Mr. Han, how much was it again?”

Han Jingyang smiled.

What was the meaning of this?

Trying to renege on the debt?

What was this person thinking?

He actually planned to renege on a debt to a super powerful Feng Shui Master?

Was he tired of living?

Or had his heart been blinded by greed?

Since ancient times, one could default on the debts of almost anyone, even doctors, because most doctors were kind-hearted and would save you at critical moments regardless of whether you owed them money.

But no one dared to renege on a debt to a Feng Shui Master.

This principle should be known to everyone; even if they didn’t know it before, they should be able to figure it out.

Because the logic was very simple: a Feng Shui Master who could bring you good Feng Shui could certainly drive that good Feng Shui away.

Destruction was always easier than construction.

Therefore, Han Jingyang couldn’t understand why Liu Jian was interfering, especially since Liu Jian didn’t have to pay.

However, he still replied with a smile: ”Five hundred thousand.”

”Five hundred thousand,” Liu Jian nodded: ”I’ve worked for so many years, and now my monthly pension is over eight thousand. That’s only about one hundred thousand a year. You want ten years of my pension in one go; isn’t that a bit excessive?”

”Is it excessive?”

”Quite excessive,” Liu Jian analyzed with a seemingly calm demeanor: ”If you had actually done something, fine, the money should be paid. But what did you do? Nothing.”

”What do you mean?”

”Nothing in particular, I’m just saying that you can’t have all five hundred thousand.”

”Oh? How much do you intend to give?”

”Fifty thousand,” Liu Jian explained confidently: ”It only takes about half an hour for you to get here from Quancheng, an hour round trip. Counting the small talk and tea at my house, plus walking over here, two hours is more than enough. You can earn fifty thousand in two hours; you should be content. Last time we hired that female celebrity to sing, it was also for two hours, and she only asked for eighty thousand. She actually sang for two hours. You just took a walk around and did nothing, yet you can get fifty thousand. You should be content.”

”Should be content?”

”Yes, young people shouldn’t be too greedy. Asking for astronomical appearance fees at every turn is not good.”

Han Jingyang smiled.

He looked Liu Jian up and down, swept his gaze over the rest of the Liu brothers one by one, took in everyone’s expressions, and understood the situation.

The Liu brothers really intended to renege on the debt.

Even Liu Qing, the wealthiest one, who might not have intended to renege on the debt initially, was tempted after his younger brother said this.

Not all rich people are the same.

Some people are rich and spend money like water; they spend and earn, earning just to spend it.

Others are different; the richer they get, the stingier they become. They wish they could earn every penny and hide it at home, and the thing they love doing most is counting money.

He had seen all kinds of people in the antique business.

Liu Qing might not be that extreme, but he clearly agreed with Liu Jian’s words, believing that Han Jingyang’s trip was not worth the asking price of five hundred thousand.

Hmm, this was the mindset of a businessman.

Doing business is all about matching value. When a businessman feels that his investment doesn’t match the return, breaking the contract is an obvious choice.

But...

Han Jingyang sighed inwardly. Hadn’t this Liu Qing considered that this would invite retaliation?

He was young, cheerful, and reasonably kind, and he had his own bottom line in life.

But that didn’t mean he was easy to bully.

And it certainly didn’t mean that if he were bullied, he wouldn’t choose to fight back.

What on earth were these people thinking?

Han Jingyang just wanted to say ”I am very angry” right now.

But he didn’t.

He just nodded at Liu Qing, scanned everyone in Liu Qing’s family one by one, finally gave a carefree smile, and turned to leave.

Han Jingyang turned and left.

Liu Jing followed without hesitation.

Wang Zhiwei sneered and quickly followed; this sneer was clearly directed at Liu Qing’s family.

Xu Xin also shook his head, glanced at Liu Qing with regret, and quickly followed Han Jingyang.

Han Jingyang was very gratified.

People are truly different.

If it were ordinary people, they would have tried to be peacemakers just now, and might even have tried to persuade him not to be angry or something similar.

Yet Wang Zhiwei and Xu Xin did nothing of the sort.

They were silent the whole time.

When he left, they followed without the slightest hesitation.

It felt really good to have friends standing by his side.

However, his good mood was instantly ruined after hearing Liu Jian’s loud shouting from behind.

Liu Jian shouted at the top of his lungs from behind: ”Third brother, let me tell you, you are just too trusting. You believe whatever people say. Five hundred thousand is not a small number; you could buy a nice small apartment in the city center with that. If it weren’t for me, you would have almost been swindled. If he had real skills, that would be one thing, but he came and did nothing, said nothing, just took a broken compass and walked around, and then wanted to take the money and leave. Where in this world is money so easily earned? In the future, keep your eyes open when doing things. Never just bring swindlers into the house again.”

Swindler.

Swindling.

Did nothing.

Broken compass.

These words were more unpleasant than the last.

Wang Zhiwei was instantly enraged and turned to charge at Liu Qing and his brothers.

Han Jingyang grabbed Wang Zhiwei: ”Old Wang, calm down. I have plenty of ways to deal with them.”

Wang Zhiwei spat at Liu Qing’s group: ”Pah, what trash. Little brother, give them a harsh lesson. Teach them how to behave. Some people just deserve to be put in their place.”

At this moment, Liu Jian on the other side laughed out loud twice: ”What kind of thing is that? Calling himself a master? A wet-behind-the-ears brat has the nerve to impersonate a master to swindle money. Pah, go home and suckle on your mother’s milk.”
