Is It Weird for a Guy to Apply to a Witch School?

Chapter 735: The Necessarily Wrong Coin of Misfortune

”Cooperate with the experiment?”

Hearing Big Sis Trixie’s words, I was a little surprised.

It had always been me asking others to help me with experiments, and this time, it was someone else asking me to help her with an experiment.

However… the item for the experiment was this coin, and I wasn’t opposed to it.

After all, I was also very curious about the effect of this Transcendent Item.

”Yes, it won’t take too much time,” Trixie said.

”Of course, what do I need to do to cooperate? Are you going to test how I transform this coin into Destiny and augment it onto myself?”

I asked curiously.

”No, I’m not interested in that effect that only the originator can trigger. If you are very interested, I wouldn’t mind cooperating with you to test it, but I think you can conduct that experiment yourself.”

Trixie said with a smile.

After all, she didn’t believe that the opponent hadn’t professionally tested the Transcendent Item.

The opponent’s talent might even surpass hers.

”No, that won’t be necessary. I’ve already tested this a few times since I got it. But the deeper-level research on the transformation between matter and Destiny is something I don’t want to spend too much time on right now.”

I quickly said.

Although I didn’t plan to spend too much time researching it now, I did have some inner conjectures, such as that the coin was not material from the start, but was given material properties through the power of Destiny.

But its essence was still the concept of Destiny; it hadn’t truly become matter or Transcendent material, not even the kind where Transcendent materials crystallize into a crystal substance.

This seemed to involve some Transcendent phenomenon within the Birth Ritual of the Transcendent Item.

”Alright Since you don’t want to learn about it, that suits my intentions perfectly.”

Trixie also played with the coin.

”In that case, let the experiment begin.”

”Mhm.”

”But before that, I hope you understand one concept. Since this Transcendent Item originated from the Lucky Coin Alchemical Embryo, do you know the effect of the Lucky Coin Alchemical Item?”

”Mhm… I’ve learned a bit.”

I recalled the information I obtained earlier by appraising the Lucky Coin.

Its effect was not simply to bring good luck, but to make the correct choice.

”When facing a dilemma, toss this coin, and the Lucky Coin will give the most suitable answer. There is also a chance that it will land on its edge, and if it lands on its edge, it’s best not to toss it a second time for the same issue.”

And the coin toss should not involve any underhanded manipulations.

After all, for Transcendent beings, observation and calculation are very simple.

A sharp person can deduce the result the moment it is tossed and even influence the heads or tails of a coin, which would also prevent the Lucky Coin from producing a good effect.

”Yes, it seems you know quite a lot. Then let’s use this as a reference template to test this coin, shall we?”

”Good.”

I nodded cooperatively.

”Now, choose a number in your mind. This number can only be between 0 and 1. Choose it and silently remember it, but don’t tell me yet. And when you tell me later, don’t lie.”

Trixie explained some of the procedures and arrangements for the experiment.

”Okay.”

I nodded.

She only had to say a few words, and I roughly knew what she was going to do.

In my mind, I silently chose a ”0,” then looked at Trixie.

”I’ve chosen.”

”Then… it’s my turn.”

She smiled, placed the coin on her thumb, and gently flicked it into the air, where it finally landed steadily back in her hand.

When she opened her fingers, the side with my silhouette portrait was facing up.

”Alright, my guess is… 1, right?”

”No.”

I shook my head, saying regretfully.

”Wrong? Interesting. Is this the Coin of Misfortune?”

Trixie said with a smile.

”But I’m kidding. It’s just one test, so we can’t definitively conclude anything yet.”

”If it’s wrong every time, wouldn’t that be no different from being right every time?”

I said.

”That’s a very valid point. Shall we continue?”

Trixie also offered a slight smile, holding up the coin to indicate to me.

”Has Big Sis Trixie felt any side effects from using it?”

I asked.

”Side effects… I apologize, I don’t seem to have perceived any side effects.”

Trixie was stunned, then felt again, and finally shook her head.

”Perhaps the side effect is something as ephemeral as a decline in luck?”

”Maybe. Then this truly becomes the Coin of Misfortune.”

”Let’s continue.”

After accompanying Big Sis Trixie for dozens more attempts, we finally confirmed its Transcendent nature.

That is, every time a choice was made, it would lead to failure.

This failure was a fated failure.

For example, if I thought ”0” in my mind, and when Trixie tossed the coin, she thought the portrait was 0 and the patterned side was 1, the final result would be the patterned side.

When Trixie accepted this result and said 1, she had failed.

There was another scenario: Trixie chose not to believe the original rule and swapped 0 and 1 with the portrait and patterned side.

This failure to follow the self-imposed rule also resulted in the wrong answer.

This meant that from Trixie’s perspective, as long as she didn’t know my predetermined result, if she based her answer on the coin’s result, the final answer she stated would be wrong.

In other words, the result of heads or tails was irrelevant.

What mattered was that the final result Trixie deduced from the coin’s outcome and stated had to be wrong.

And we also tested some control groups.

For example, not being affected if the result wasn’t deduced from the coin.

This influence stemmed from… whether one participated and knew the result as the basis.

To be more detailed, a café was not a suitable venue for an experiment of this scale.

So, based on guessing heads or tails with this coin, we could reach a conceptual conclusion: the result had to be wrong!

At least, it had not been right even once…

”This… is an ability at the level of causality, isn’t it?! How can there be such an insurmountable ability in the world?”

I said, somewhat incredulously.

”Causality? No, it hasn’t reached that level, or rather, in the Transcendent domain, even causality has an applicable scope, but it’s not absolutely insurmountable. This is a certain manifestation of being forcibly influenced by Destiny’s push on luck. I’ve researched the Lucky Coin. The Lucky Coin has this characteristic, and it has a certain influence even on Transcendent beings.”

Trixie explained.

”Alright…”

I didn’t know much about this area, so I chose to trust Big Sis Trixie.

However, the ability of this coin seemed to prevent bug exploitation.

Even if one knew the final result was wrong, one could only confirm it was wrong when the result was materialized.

Even a last-minute reversal would result in a wrong outcome after the reversal.

Therefore, in principle, it could not be used as a Lucky Coin.

The person holding it was destined to be unlucky, but others could benefit.

Also, if the answer was known from the start, the result of the toss was meaningless, which meant the Transcendent Item had no effect.

”This is truly an interesting coin,” Trixie exclaimed, even now.

”Then… has Big Sis Trixie felt any side effects from using it?”

I asked curiously again.

”I apologize, but I still haven’t felt that I’ve paid any price. Perhaps… this is only a characteristic of the holder’s usage, and it hasn’t yet reached a usage method that requires a price to be paid.”

Trixie, worthy of being a Witch who deeply researched Alchemy and Transcendent Items, quickly offered a possibility.

”Holder characteristic? Does this mean we haven’t found the correct way to use it?”

I asked with a frown.

”It’s very likely. After all, gaining a correct answer without paying a price can be achieved by a Destiny Alchemical Item, and this one only yields a wrong answer. It’s actually not surprising. Do you remember its embryo was the Lucky Coin Alchemical Embryo?”

”When you put it that way… it seems very logical…”

I also nodded, accepting this statement.

”Many Transcendent Items can have side effects just by holding them. Perhaps every wrong choice is itself a part of the side effect,” Trixie continued to guess.

”Is that so? As expected, Big Sis Trixie knows more about Transcendent Items. If I were exploring alone, I wouldn’t even know where to start.”

”Look at you, flattering me like that.”

Trixie smiled and shook her head, then picked up the coin again.

”Let’s test it one last time. If there are no other ideas, the experiment will end here, and I’ll take the rest back to the laboratory to test.”

”Alright.”

I nodded, silently choosing a ”0” in my mind.

In the previous experiments, I had tried silently counting to ”0” ten times in a row, but Trixie, for whatever psychological reason, guessed ”1” ten times.

I have to say, this was truly miraculous.

”Have you made your choice?”

Trixie asked.

”Mhm.”

As I nodded, Trixie tossed the coin as before.

As the coin flipped, it finally landed in her hand.

This time, Trixie opened her fingers.

The patterned side was facing up.

The pattern looked somewhat like an iris flower, but that didn’t seem important.

”Do you have any thoughts, Xiao Han?”

”Mhm… I’m thinking that after the answer is guessed, if you flip the coin over, wouldn’t the final result be what I said?”

”Flip it over? Reverse the coin?”

Trixie hadn’t tried doing that yet.

She tried flipping the coin over and then said, ”It must be 1 this time, right?”

”…”

I responded to Big Sis Trixie with silence this time.

”Then… you flip the coin back and guess again?”

”1 was wrong again? Sigh…”

Trixie flipped the coin over as I instructed.

”Is the answer 0?”

”Yes, the answer is…”

I nodded, about to say that the second guess was right, but the next moment, the ceiling light above our booth suddenly loosened.

Crash—!

The ambient ceiling light crashed down onto our table.

Broken lampshades and fragments scattered onto the tabletop with a crackling sound.

And the moment this happened, I activated Time Sense.

A Protective Spell shielded me, allowing me to escape harm.

But Trixie didn’t dodge.

After all, she was a Transcendent Witch and was immune to the damage caused by this kind of sudden accident.

However, the latte she had stirred and hadn’t taken a single sip of was knocked over by the light fixture.

Coffee mixed with milk, a light brown liquid, spilled from the tray below, flowing across the table and staining her skirt.

”Fascinating…”

Even with this sudden accident, Trixie remained very calm, as if everything had nothing to do with her.

But her skirt was indeed stained.

”We seem to have found the correct way to use it, and we also know its side effects.”

Trixie cast a Cleaning Spell, clearing the coffee from her skirt, and then looked at me with a smile.

At this moment, the café staff rushed forward, and the café manager was almost in tears!

Their café’s fixture had unexpectedly fallen and hit a mentor!

”We are so sorry, so sorry! This is all our…”

”It has nothing to do with you.”

Trixie turned her head to look at the staff and the manager, who was already on the verge of tears, and smiled, interrupting their apologies.

”This is all our fault. Regarding the compensation… we caused you a bad experience this time…”

”It’s alright. This should be considered our fault. We were conducting a small experiment here, and it caused trouble for your reputation.”

Trixie shook her head again and said.

Then, with a wave of her hand, a Reconstruction Spell restored everything.

I also had this Spell in my collection.

It consumed a significant amount, three digits worth, and the reconstructed item couldn’t be too complicated, preferably not related to the Transcendent, or it would require more Mental Power to repair.

This Spell was essentially a more convenient Spell platform to piece these materials back together.

This was a different concept from the complete Time Sense mastered by Big Sis Bai.

One was piecing together and restoring, the other was reproducing and restoring.

After a round of apologies, the manager still couldn’t accept that this was all our fault.

In the end, we still provided compensation.

Although Big Sis Trixie and I didn’t necessarily care for the compensation, we symbolically accepted some.

”Xiao Han, your suggestion just now… was it based on the previous Earth Vein Image? Making your own choice based on a predetermined result… this might be the meaning the Transcendent Item intended to express, and also… the guiding core of its Birth Ritual.”

”Uh… maybe.”

I nodded.

Although I had indeed thought of this possibility at the time, I hadn’t expected the result to actually be this way…

”I truly have to thank you for this, Xiao Han. If it weren’t for your idea, I might have tried countless times and still not discovered this effect. Making a change based on a predetermined result… what a fascinating idea.”

Trixie said with a smile.

She had gained too much from this trip!

It was absolutely worth it!

”Actually… it was nothing much…”

”You are truly as humble as the other Witches rumored you to be.”

Trixie and I walked side by side.

Since the incident had occurred at the café, but the result that everyone wanted was ultimately achieved, it was best to simply leave in accordance with this outcome.

”Then… this meeting ends here. I will keep this coin safe for you. I will return it to you once I’ve finished my tests.”

”Mhm, I trust that Big Sis Trixie will keep it safe for me.”

I also said with a smile.

However, I didn’t plan to part ways just yet, as I still had one thing to do.

”But Big Sis Trixie, could you wait a moment?”

”Is there something else, Xiao Han?”

”I encountered a kind student from the Wizard Academy a few days ago, and he gave me a Destiny Sorcery Tool.”

As I spoke, I took out the palm-sized Destiny Sorcery Tool crystal ball.

”I wonder if this Sorcery Tool can be exchanged for specialized knowledge related to Destiny Alchemists?”
