THE GOD EATER

He sneered as he said, ”But some others considered this arrangement to be good for us. They claimed that the seal was there to protect us. After all, if we can’t leave, no one else can come in to kill us.”

At this, point, Martial Will had had enough. He finally decided to speak.

As he laughed, he said, ”Right. The best thing about being couped up without external threats is that we have all the time to kill each other. What could be better than that?”

Ignoring him, Golden Sun continued, ”This difference in perspective, like the difference in a glass half empty and a glass half full philosophy, was one of the reasons why we went to war back then.”

In what seemed like a bit of a rush, Heavenly Eye injected, saying, ”There was also the fact that you three brothers were too proud and everyone was sick of you.”

Like earlier, Golden Sun ignored her too. He didn’t even acknowledge that she had spoken.

He said to Loki, ”On one side were those who considered the Sea of Worlds a prison and wanted to free the domain. Their goal was to help more people become Dao Lords so that we could meet the requirements to open the seal. So they were the peaceful faction.”

”On the other side were the protectionists. They felt that our current situation with the whole world dying around us and divine beings feasting on worlds like vultures feasting on carrion was a good thing.”

”The protectionists didn’t want the seal to be removed, so they definitely didn’t want more Dao Lords to be created. Since both sides couldn’t see eye to eye or compromise, they went to war.”

Golden Sun glared at Black Chains again as he said, ”The protectionists initiated the war. Since they didn’t want more Dao Lords, killing more Dao Lords would ensure that the requirements for the seal to be unlocked would not be met.”

”Their plan was a product born of short-sighted thinking. They didn’t consider that our fate was to open the seal and revive the world or die hiding in this decaying coffin called the Sea of Worlds.”

Then he spat angrily and said, ”Bah! What Sea of Worlds? This is just a pond. It is a pond that’s drying up.”

Without shame, the monkey smiled and said, ”Short-sighted or not, the fact that we were able to defeat you proved that you were way out of your league with your plan to open up the Sea of Worlds. If you couldn’t defeat the few of us, how do you expect to defend the thousands or even tens of thousands of Dao Lords?”

Cackling like a hyena drunk on power, Black Chains said, ”It is true that our supply of divine crystal is dwindling by the day, and it is becoming more and more difficult to create more Dao Lords. But I consider this a good thing.”

But a voice came down from the sky, saying, ”I think Golden Sun is right. The dwindling divine crystal also means it is getting more and more difficult for us to sustain our cultivation as Dao Lords. In time, we will fall in Dao Status. Then the Sea of Worlds will be officially doomed.”

Then Tepid Scholar sighed and said, ”Back then, I thought it was a good idea to hide away for a while. I was afraid that we too would be slaughtered like the ancient cultivators, so I wanted to keep the domain sealed. At least, I wanted more time to grow stronger.”

”But it has become more and more difficult to grow stronger because of the lack of high-quality divine crystals. Right now, we have reached our limit. We can’t grow stronger anymore. We can only become weaker. So I think it is time for us to open the Sea of Worlds.”

With a roar of anger, Black Chains in the sky said, ”I’ve told you many times, stop repeating this. I already told you that I have a plan.”

Martial Will snorted and said, ”Isn’t your plan to let the Sea of Worlds open up after I gain control of everything?”

Black Chains didn’t deny it. He said, ”As long as I succeed in enslaving the Blessed Heaven World, I will let us create our Divine Towers and Divine Sparks. Then I will let more Dao Lords be created. Everything will be alright as long as we follow the plan.”

Chuckling, Sword Maestro said, ”I guess it is a good thing that you’re about to lose too many avatars and die. Once you die, we won’t have to wait for your permission. How fortuitous.”

Black Chains sneered and said, ”Don’t be quick to write me off. After all, it isn’t over until it is over.”

Hearing their argument, Loki shook his head and chuckled. Then he ignored the voices from the sky and asked Golden Sun another question.

He said, ”I’ve always wanted to know something. Why do Dao Lords establish sects anyway?”

”I mean, you’re the strongest beings in the Sea of Worlds, so you shouldn’t need weaklings for anything. Take, for instance, if Black Chains hadn’t established sects here and meddled in the affairs of the Sea of Worlds, his avatars wouldn’t be in my grasp, about to be killed.”

Laughing, Martial Will said, ”If he didn’t establish his sect, he also wouldn’t have been able to steal the Forging Pathway, Money Pathway, and Death Pathway.”

This time, many Dao Lords joined him in laughing. Practically everyone in the sky was laughing. Those who weren’t laughing were chuckling or smiling, like Tepid Scholar.

Of course, Black Chains was not laughing. He had closed his eyes as if shutting himself off from the world. Only the constant resistance from the monkey in Loki’s grasp indicated that he was still active.

While the Dao Lords above were smiling, and while he was trying to kill the mind hunter avatar by aging it with the Blade of Time, Golden Sun was seriously answering his question.
