THE GOD EATER

As bad as the white flame hurt him Skarg didn’t become angry at the death cultivator. He was actually impressed by the power of the curse.

He shook his head in awe and said, “You curse cultivators are very powerful and difficult to guard against. If your preparations didn’t take so much time and resources, you would be invicinble.”

He was not over exaggerating when he said this. It is true that there was absolutely nothing he could do to block the power of the curse.

If not for the fact that he was strong enough to kill the person who cast the curse and was close to the source of the curse to destroy the curse at the root, he would be completely helpless against the curse.

This is why the death cultivator didn’t try to take advantage of the curse to kill Skarg. If he hadn’t rushed over to remove the curse from Skarg, Skarg would have killed him.

The curse is slow-acting, and Skarg is powerful, so the curse would take time to kill Skarg. In that time, Skarg would surely be able to kill him.

Even if Skarg alone can’t kill him, there are still Skarg’s two children to help him. And even if killing him doesn’t remove the curse, destroying the Curse Altar and the black candle would surely remove the curse.

So instead of being afraid, Skarg was happy at how insidious the curse was. He was also looking forward to Loki suffering this curse.

It was the death cultivator, not Skarg, who was afraid that the curse would harm Skarg. So when the curse was finally removed, the death cultivator sighed in relief.

Then he said, “I have bad news and good news.”

His words made Skarg frown and say, “Don’t keep us in suspense. Say what you have to say.”

In response, the cultivator rubbed his aching head as he said, “The good news is that the curse will no longer affect you. The bad news is that as long as you don’t die, the curse will never be able to find the person you don’t want.”

Skarg was displeased to hear this. His frown became deeper as he said, “Why not? Is there any solution?”

The death cultivator pointed at the black candle on the Corpse Altar and said, “The death flame can be used to find the last person to survive the curse. The direction that the flame will blow in will always point in the direction of that last survivor.”

“As long as there is more than one person still alive, the flame won’t be able to point in a single direction. This is why we won’t be able to use the curse to track that person anymore.”

Then he shook his head and said, “As for a solution, I am afraid that there is none.”

“Like I said before we started, there are too many sources of interference. We are using too many base materials for the curse, and we are cursing too many people. The only way out is to kill you.”

When Skarg heard this, he clenched his fist for a while. He wanted to be angry, and he wanted to lash out at someone else. But he couldn’t blame anyone because this was his fault, and he couldn’t take his anger out on anyone else because all of his slaves are now dead.

He still has capable subordinates, but they are too valuable to be killed for an outburst of anger. Besides, they don’t feel pain, so it won’t be enjoyable to beat them. And they won’t resist or beg for their lives while he punches them to death, so he has no interest in doing something so boring.

Eventually, he had to swallow his anger. Then he sighed and said to himself, “It seems I can only wait for him to come here to find the source of the curse.”

The death cultivator hesitated slightly, but he still went ahead to say the bad news. He said, “That means that the curse will need to be prolonged for longer, which will cost you a lot. Are you sure?”

In response, Skarg gritted his teeth and said, “I am sure.”

Then he stormed off.

His two children watched him leave but chose to remain where they were watching the curse. They too felt unhappy that their plan wasn’t going well.

Only the death cultivator was in a good mood. After all, he will be earning a lot with this job.

All the blood that he poured into the Curse Altar is not going into the black candle through the blood vessels to maintain it. As long as the blood remains, the black candle will never burn completely. So the longer the curse remains, the more he will earn.

There is also the fact that he is using the deaths of so many people to refine the death flame. The more people die under the curse, the stronger the death flame will become. This will make his future curses with the death flame stronger.

So he is earning money and power with this one job. This is why he said to himself, “Whoever you are, I thank you. After all, if you live, I earn money, and if you die, I grow stronger. So what can I complain about?”

He laughed inwardly as he said to himself, “I know it is selfish of me to ask, but I hope you can hold on for longer. That way I can earn more.”

The Loki that he was talking about was in his room in the small world called Earthly Battlefield E6-137. He was sitting on a mat with his eyes closed as he focused on fusing the energy threads in his brain when he suddenly heard the cracking of something.

He felt the cracking in his body far more clearly than he heard it. The sensation was as if something was breaking within him. It pulled him out of his focused state and forced him to look at the source of the discomfort.
