THE GOD EATER

While the black fat worm was still eating shards of bones and ashes in the mass grave, he took out a large altar built with bone.

This altar is a Metac called the Curse Altar. It is used to amplify the power of a Curse. It is also used as an anchor to prevent a backlash when a curse fails.

In this case, the death cultivator plans to use the Curse Altar Metac for both of these things. He needs the help of the Curse Altar Metac to curse ten thousand people without exhausting himself and dying because of the burden of the curse.

The assistance of the Curse Altar Metac isn’t free, though. He has to imbue the altar with various special materials and a lot of energy for it to work. This is why he took it out, set it in the ground, and began preparing it.

This Curse Altar Metac is as large as a coffin. It is also white because of the bones that were used to build it.

This isn’t the biggest that a Curse Altar Metac can become. The altar can be as big as a house in rare cases. In general, the bigger the Curse Metac or the higher the quality of the materials, the better it is.

In his case, he went through the quality route, so the altar will be easy to carry around and set up. He built the altar with only the bones of rank 4 cultivators, so a lot of rank 4 people have died to create this altar.

Of course, he didn’t kill all of these rank 4 cultivators himself. He just bought their bones from people who were willing to sell.

So what the altar cost him is a lot of money, not danger from risking his life to kill rank 4 cultivators. This cost was worth it as it ensured that the altar would be of high quality.

It is because the altar is of high quality that the blood that he poured on it was absorbed so quickly. As he poured blood onto the altar, the blood disappeared immediately. It was as if the altar was made of white foam, not white bones.

This blood that he is using to prepare the Curse Altar is also of high quality. It is the blood harvested from numerous rank 4 cultivators. Just like the bones that he used to build the altar, he bought this blood too.

As he poured the blood onto the altar, he felt his heart ache with pain. The pain was so much that he clutched his chest with one hand and said, “This had better be worth it.”

This blood is the foundation of his most precious collection of materials. It is something that he rarely uses and thought that he wouldn’t need to use until his life was at risk and he would need to fight a rank 5 cultivator.

Even other rank 4 cultivators don’t warrant him using precious rank 4 blood to curse them. Yet, here he is using up his precious blood to curse ten thousand people, most of whom are slaves.

The more he thought about it, the more his chest hurt and the harder he had to clutch it to ease the pain. But there was no way around this, no matter how unwilling he was. This was because he simply didn’t have the power to curse ten thousand people alone.

Even if he had the power to curse so many people, if there was a small mistake during the execution of the curse, that small mistake could cause a backlash that would balloon in proportion enough to kill him.

So, he needs the help of the Curse Altar Metac. That means that he also needs to pay the price or the Curse Altar Metac will fail him at the critical moment.

After he had poured the blood into the altar, he also took out many other materials, which he placed onto the altar. He took out livers, lungs, hearts, kidneys, uterus, and many more internal organs of powerful cultivators and placed them on the altar.

He did this carefully, though. He didn’t just throw everything haphazardly onto the altar. He placed them slowly and carefully in a special position on the altar for a special overall arrangement.

By the time he was done, he had outlined a complete human system on top of the white altar. There was a brain at the top, followed by eyes below it, and a tongue beneath the eyes.

Then there were the two different lungs flanking the heart, and beneath these three were the stomach, liver, intestines, kidneys, and so on and so forth.

He had created the organs of a human without the skin, muscle, bones, and blood vessels. But though all of these crucial things were missing from the arrangement, it didn’t stop the heart from starting to beat.

This all started because many root-like blood vessels rose from the white altar and attached themselves to the organs. Then the blood that he had poured into the altar earlier began to pour into the organs through these blood vessels.

When the heart began to beat, the lungs beside it also came to life and began to expand and deflate as if they were breathing. Then the other organs came to life and began to function too.

Even the two eyes were rolling about as if they were looking at their surroundings. Every organ was behaving as if it were inside a healthy host. Or, to be more encompassing, the whole arrangement of the Curse Altar and the internal organs was behaving as if it were one singular living being.

All of these took time to set up. It actually took more than five hours, so when the death cultivator was done, he sighed in relief.

Then he gazed at his handiwork and nodded in satisfaction as he said, “That’s how you set up a life array. It is so well made that I am surprised that it could be this good.”
