THE GOD EATER

Sophia had been in heaven when Skarg called her down to support him in their quest to find and keep Loki. If he hadn’t done so, she might be fighting right now, which means that the chances of surviving will be as low as one in five even in the best-case scenario. So she is glad that she isn’t on the Heavenly Battlefield right now.

Serge still didn’t know why the Heavenly Battlefield was so dangerous, but he still said, “I’ll be joining the Earthly Battlefield too once Simon advances to rank 3.”

Skerg nodded and said thoughtfully, “Simon should be ready to advance to rank 3 in about a year. Probably 7 more months.”

The father and his two children chatted amicably for a while, until Simon couldn’t hold back anymore and said, “Do you think Slav killed our mother?”

Sophia shook his head and said, “I don’t think so. She died of complications during childbirth. It wasn’t Slav’s fault at all, and she would have died even if he wasn’t the incarnation of a divine being.”

In response, Skarg sighed and said, “You should know that the people’s reincarnations before they awaken are not the same as who they awaken to be. So the Slav that we know and love is dead.”

This was difficult for him to say because he loved Slav deeply. He loves all of his children, but he loved Slav the most because he was the last gift that his wife gave him before she passed away.

He had always doted on Slav, so it was a lot to take in when he heard that Slav turned out to be a divine being. Slav’s awakening might have been a good thing for him if so many powerful people were not hunting Slav.

He might have been able to use this connection to Slav to help him advance to rank 5. Unfortunately, he had to tear away every tie to Slav and treat the boy that he once doted on as if he were dead.

This was too painful for him to think about, so he said, “Let’s talk about something else. Preferably something more cheerful.”

So Simon said, “What about the recent cage fight?”

This topic brought a smile to Sophia’s face. She beamed with excitement and said, “Why don’t we just start a cage fight here and now?”

Simon nodded in agreement and said, “We should make it a battle royale instead.”

Then the two of them looked at Skarg with hopeful eyes.

In response, Skarg shrugged and said, “Why not? They are going to die anyway, so it is better that they be useful to us one last time before they die.”

His two children became elated when they heard this. Then they began giving orders to arrange a battle royale.

This battle royale will be fought by slaves. A 100 of them will fight to the death. Only one of them will survive and be rewarded.

As thrilling as this kind of game is, it is a wasteful use of slaves. At any other time, Skarg would have insisted on the cage match between two slaves or sold tickets for people to see the battle royale so that he could earn money from it to justify throwing the battle royale.

But this time, he didn’t mind the wasteful use of slaves. This was because if the mass curse that he wanted to execute was successful, nearly all of his more than ten thousand slaves would die.

Since they were going to die anyway, Skarg thought that there was no harm in watching many of them die for his amusement. So he agreed to let 100 of them fight each other to the death.

The death cultivator also agreed to this. He was happy that the slaves would be forced to kill each other because it would reduce the amount of work that he had to do.

Not that anyone asked for his opinion. The Rein Family went to arrange the battle royale without asking for his input.

They didn’t just make the 100 fight bare-handed, though. They made a big game out of it by letting them lose in a forest and dropping weapons of various kinds into the forest to make the fight interesting.

The three of them sat on a small airship and watched the fight below. Sometimes they bet with each other, and other times they drop weapons and armor to support the slaves that they like.

Throughout all of these, they laughed and cheered. They were a scene of a happy family having a good time doing a fun activity.

When the battle royale ended, they switched to hunting the slaves themselves. They made the slaves escape into the forest while they hunted the slaves as animals for sport.

Blood flowed, and slaves cried out in pain or begged to be spared as they were slain. But the three members of the Rein Family continued to laugh and continued to have a fun time.

The death cultivator saw this, so he clicked his tongue as he said in reproach, “They love each other and wouldn’t want anyone to harm any member of their family. But they don’t have any problem harming the members of other people’s families.”

“It is partly because they don’t think of slaves as people. But it is mostly because they don’t consider anyone who is not of their blood as one of their people. It is why they can order the death of ten thousand people without blinking their eyes.”

Then he cheered inwardly as he said, “Fortunately, I am not on the receiving end of their wrath. It is good that I am not whoever it is that they are willing to sacrifice so many people to kill.”

After cheering inwardly, he got back to work. But he did wonder about what the unfortunate person that the Rein Family is hunting had done to warrant this much sacrifice.

He also thought about various things while he worked.
