THE GOD EATER

Since he didn’t have a luck cultivator, Skarg has not been able to do anything about that inheritance, and it has frustrated him endlessly. This has made him terribly averse to this situation where he can’t do anything to Loki.

He didn’t want to live in a world where Loki got away from him, so he gritted his teeth and said, “No matter the cost, you must go ahead with the curse.”

With his confirmation given, the death cultivator shrugged and said, “You’re the boss. I will do as you say.”

Then Skarg asked, saying, “Even if we are implicated, you can remove the curse, right?”

The death cultivator replied, saying with confidence, “Yes. As long as I can touch them, I can remove the curse.”

So Skarg nodded in satisfaction and said, “Good. Then we have nothing to fear.”

He was satisfied with the response of the death cultivator and would like the death cultivator to do what he asked for as soon as possible. But he still had other instructions, so he had to speak some more.

He said, “Another thing, I don’t want it to be a quick death. I want the curse to be slow-acting; that way, the weakest ones will die first while the strongest ones will be the last to die.”

“When there is only one of the related people still alive, I want you to use the curse to find them. This is why I want the curse to be slow-acting and eliminate the useless people first. That way, you will be able to narrow down your search.”

What he said was true, and he is looking forward to using the curse to find Loki. But what he didn’t say was that by making the curse slow-acting, Loki would be compelled to come back to get rid of the curse. That way, he can use the curse to force Loki to come to him.

The death cultivator didn’t know about his deeper schemes, so he wasn’t concerned about the success or failure of Skarg’s two-pronged approach.

What he was worried about was doing his job well without being blamed for the repercussions or anything else, so he said to Skarg, “I can make the curse slow-acting. I can even make it so that the more people die to the curse, the stronger it will become. But I am unlikely to be able to use the curse to find the person you’re looking for.”

“This is because the curse is a general level killing curse that is meant to kill as many people as possible, not to find those people. The curse will also be based on all of the remnants of this mass grave, so it will be nearly impossible to use it to find a single person, as the other remnants in the mass grave will interfere.”

After saying his piece, he became silent and waited for Skarg to accept it or give up on the idea completely.

Skarg wasn’t willing to give up on the idea completely, so he said, “Go ahead. Just do the best that you can do.”

Since Skarg had spoken, the death cultivator got to work. The first thing he did was to open his mouth wide, from which a thick black worm wiggled its way out.

This black worm is his Life Ability. It is called the Curse Worm Life Ability. Only death cultivators can have it.

The pathway of death is a large pathway that deals with manipulating corpses, controlling ghosts, controlling blood, manipulating bones, cursing people to death, and many more. Each of these can be called an area of specialization, and they each have a Life Ability.

By refining a Life Ability, one will be choosing which area of the pathway they want to specialize in. Since he has chosen to refine the Curse Worm Life Ability, it will be very difficult and maybe even impossible for a death cultivator with the Ghost Flag Life Ability, who has specialized in the aspect of controlling ghosts, to beat him in cursing people to death.

This is why Skarg sought him out in particular, not other death cultivators. Of course, Skarg was able to find him because the rank 5 cultivators with the Curse Worm Ability have finished eating their fill and are willing to let him live.

However, as good as he is at cursing people, what Skarg has asked him to do is a tall order. Just thinking about it made him feel pain in his face. It was as if Skarg wanted to kick him in the balls, and he was already feeling phantom pain in his balls before Skarg’s kick could connect.

Skarg has asked him to curse every living person closely related to the remnants of the corpses in the mass grave. These living people could be in the tens of thousands. It was why he was shocked when he first heard the request.

The attempt to curse all of them will take a lot of power, energy, and time from him. What has made matters worse is that he won’t be working with intact materials. All he has to work with are remnants of corpses.

The fire destroyed some corpses, but not all of them. There are still fragments of bones here and there. There is also bone ash from numerous corpses left behind by the fire.

All of these things can be used as materials to create a curse. It will just be a lot of work for the person who needs to create the curse.

When the death cultivator thought about this, he sighed and said, “I can only do my best.”

Then he controlled the Corpse Worm to begin eating all of the things in the mass grave. The black worm has to eat everything before the next part, which is refining the materials within the body of the worm, will begin.

But just this first step is going to take a lot of time and will be dangerous. The danger here is that the Corpse Worm might overeat and explode.
