The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Everyone knew that the current priority was singular—solving the case.

Almost simultaneously, the attendees reached for their pens and notebooks, holding their breath and preparing to meticulously record every key point Jiang An had just analyzed.

A tense and fervent atmosphere subtly permeated, not only because of their responsibilities, but also because many present were silently contemplating: If this decade-long double homicide could indeed be cracked through this opportunity, it would be a significant collective achievement, with individual second-class or third-class honors likely following.

Thinking of this, many eyes brightened up, as if injected with a dose of adrenaline, sweeping away fatigue and complacency, replaced by an eager anticipation.

However, among this group of focused officers, the most noticeable was the female officer who had previously been operating the projection screen.

Her hair was neatly tied in a ponytail, yet a few soft wisps rebelliously fell by her temples, adding a touch of gentleness to her crisp demeanor.

Her gaze seemed to involuntarily drift towards Jiang An, who was thinking intently in front of the whiteboard, with a look of unreserved admiration and appreciation.

Seizing an unguarded moment, she quickly glanced at Jiang An, then instinctively lifted her hand, gently tucking the loose strands by her forehead behind her ear.

This subtle gesture did not escape Director Hou’s sharp eye.

Director Hou was not only an experienced criminal investigation expert, but had also delved into psychology in his early years, possessing an intuitive insight into human behavior.

The female officer’s instinctive grooming posture, that quietly lingering gaze, to him, was all too familiar—it was an almost instinctual reaction when a person faces someone they favor.

Just like a peacock spreads its colorful tail screen during courtship, humans also unwittingly show signals of self-adornment and attraction when emotions stir.

This is not a professional matter, but rather a shared language deeply rooted in biological nature.

Thinking of this, Director Hou’s mouth subtly twitched, sensing some nuances in this episode.

He calmly turned his head to look at Jiang An, who was working attentively beside him, then resumed his usual stern demeanor, his gaze quietly surveying the room, taking in everyone’s varied responses.

Regarding Jiang An’s meticulous and incisive case analysis, Director Hou was not in the least surprised internally.

This was all anticipated; if he didn’t have full confidence in Jiang An’s abilities, how could the higher-ups specifically assign him to co-lead this important case?

Appointing Jiang An as the leader of this special criminal investigation team was a decision carefully considered by the provincial authority.

Without real skills and capabilities, how could one represent the provincial office to tackle this tough challenge?

Absolutely impossible.

If anyone harbored the illusion that the provincial office was pulling in mediocre personnel, they would be dreaming.

This was a group of experts selected from elite across the province, and participating in such major case solutions was itself a high honor and trust, with opportunities for commendations and awards far exceeding ordinary cases, even possibly leading to direct meeting with the director and promotion post-task.

Next, Director Hou turned around, scanning the room, and began speaking steadily: ”Mr. Jiang, it appears everyone has grasped the core points of the first issue.”

”Next, I ask you to continue analyzing the second issue for everyone.”

He paused briefly, his tone becoming more solemn, ”Our mission in East City is dual: to solve the case and trace clues; and to take this opportunity to engage deeply with colleagues, exchanging experiences.”

”Hence, I intentionally arranged for you to explain your reasoning process as thoroughly and step-by-step as possible—this way, not only can everyone record key points clearly, but also follow your thinking, progressively developing their own independent, systematic case-solving mindset.”

As Director Hou finished his speech, a low sound of agreement rose in the conference room.

Everyone nodded in approval, even the typically stern Zhang Biao and the composed Director Lu displayed expressions of admiration.

The two simultaneously picked up their pens, opened their notebooks, prepared to record the upcoming key content.

Seeing this, Jiang An nodded lightly, responding solemnly, ”Alright, next I will analyze the second core aspect—namely, the motive of the crime in this case.”

He spoke in a calm and clear tone, ”In traditional criminal investigation motive analysis frameworks, we typically approach from three main directions: first, murder for property, where the perpetrator aims primarily to obtain valuables; second, vendetta murder, often stemming from grudges, revenge or emotional conflict; third is random murder without apparent logical connection, wherein the motives are obscure, with actions showing impulsivity and unpredictability.”

Upon saying this, Jiang An directed his glance towards the adjacent projection screen, which already displayed relevant site data and regional maps.

He continued his analysis: ”Considering the specific circumstances of this case, the incident occurred in rural areas, which are relatively isolated, with simple customs and little movement of outsiders.”

”Given these geographical and social characteristics, the likelihood of a transient committing a property-motivated murder by randomly choosing targets is low.”

”Therefore, after preliminarily excluding property motives, we will focus on two other possibilities—namely, vendetta and motives involving emotional disputes.”

”Next, I will deduce and elaborate on these two directions in conjunction with existing clues.”

Taking the first analysis as a foundation, everyone present at this moment involuntarily picked up their pens, quietly and attentively recording notes.

They listened to each of Jiang An’s subsequent analyses with open-mindedness, occasionally nodding slightly to silently express agreement and contemplation.

It can be said that with just this opening analysis, Jiang An had completely captivated the professional judgment and attention of everyone present.

Jiang An looked around the room steadily, then continued in a clear and soft voice: ”In this case, there were two deceased, and both bodies showed multiple repeated stab wounds.”

”These wounds were widespread, with complex trauma surfaces, indicating that their formation process was evidently sudden and intensely violent.”

”On the surface, the perpetrator’s damage and cutting of the victims’ bodies clearly exhibited venting injury characteristics; however, the degree of venting displayed an unusual intensity and extremity.”

He paused slightly, letting each word clearly reach everyone’s ear: ”Both male and female victims bore about fifty injuries, notably, the female victim’s abdomen marked signs of premature labor caused by the suspect’s violence—doesn’t this seem excessively brutal?”

”Although due to the severe decay of the fetus and its darkened skin, we currently cannot directly determine if the external surface bears any damage, I personally surmise: the fetus may also carry some degree of violent markings.”

”Therefore, I suggest that subsequently, the fetal tissue be placed under a microscope for meticulous observation, examining whether its internal tissue presents signs of bleeding or other microscopic injuries.”

”Based on all the above physical evidence and phenomena,” Jiang An summarized, ”I believe the perpetrator’s methods were extremely cruel, aiming not merely to claim lives, but reflecting a strong, urgent inner hatred.”

”Especially noteworthy is that this hatred seems to have some connection with the fetus.”

”As I mentioned earlier, the forced premature labor process is usually accompanied by substantial physical pain, and the required exerted force is far from easy to apply.”

”Hence, I have reason to speculate, the perpetrator’s motives likely stem from profound resentment, and cannot rule out the possibility of killings due to emotional entanglement, where love turns into hate.”
