The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

As soon as Jiang An finished his first point, a rustle of whispers spread through the conference room.

Several senior colleagues turned to whisper among themselves unanimously. Though the content was unclear, their frequent shaking of heads and slightly furrowed brows clearly showed doubt and confusion about Jiang An’s earlier discussion.

Jiang An didn’t hear everything, but the trace of doubt and even certain disapproval on their faces was enough for him to sense skepticism.

However, he didn’t rush to continue.

Being new here, Jiang An understood deeply that being steady and methodical in such settings was far more important than hastily pushing forward.

Moreover, he had complete confidence and certainty in the conclusions he had just proposed.

Amidst the rising murmurs of questioning, Director Lu and Zhang Biao, sitting in the front row, exchanged a subtle glance.

In that moment of eye contact, their faces didn’t reveal surprise or fluctuation but rather a mutual understanding of calmness.

In fact, both felt uncertain about Jiang An’s views.

But as the main leaders of the Public Security Bureau, they knew it was inappropriate to express opinions lightly in such public settings and avoided interrupting the expert’s statements to not disrupt the meeting’s flow.

Therefore, when their eyes met, they understood each other’s intentions: it’s not necessary to intervene immediately; they could let the discussions unfold a bit further, allowing different voices to emerge and Jiang An to elaborate more on his thoughts.

minutes later, Zhang Biao suddenly cleared his throat twice, softly yet effectively attracting the audience’s attention.

He looked at the senior comrades whispering diagonally across and spoke in a steady but slightly admonishing tone:

”A meeting should focus on venue discipline. How have we been emphasizing it regularly?”

”Today, provincial technical experts have come to provide technical support and share thoughts on case analysis. Everyone should cherish this opportunity.”

”Solving cases does not rely on personal judgments; it requires collective wisdom and scientific assessments. Let’s all stay quiet and listen to the expert finish speaking.”

After this stern admonishment, the senior comrades across suddenly fell silent, though their mouths stopped moving, their eyes still clearly showed disapproval.

Their gaze would occasionally and lightly drift towards Jiang An.

Following this, Zhang Biao turned his head, having already swapped to a smiling expression, and said earnestly: ”Mr. Jiang, I sincerely apologize, this is all my fault.”

”Usually, I haven’t disciplined them strictly, lack the restraint, resulting in today’s disruption of such an excellent occasion, disturbing our normal meeting order.”

”On behalf of them, I solemnly offer you an apology.”

Before he finished speaking, Jiang An almost expressionlessly raised his hand.

As the captain of the criminal investigation team, his strong skillset was well recognized, and when it came to management skills and acute scene awareness, he was far from lacking.

The murmurs, mixed with sarcasm and barbs, were by no means coincidental occurrences.

In Jiang An’s view, it felt more like the result of Zhang Biao’s tacit approval or even indulgence.

Regarding whether there was prior groundwork for this, although difficult to assert definitively, at least when the inappropriate voices first emerged, Zhang Biao’s position and control were entirely capable of promptly intervening.

So why didn’t he?

The attitude and inclination within were indeed obvious without saying.

While Zhang Biao seemed to apologize, he subtly attributed the senior comrades’ ”rudeness” to inadequate discipline, invisibly maintaining his grace as a leader yet clearing deeper associations, placing Jiang An in a visible position instead.

Jiang An saw clearly through this, but his face showed no trace of dissatisfaction.

He was here representing the provincial office to guide the work, bearing the perspective and requirements of the upper department.

But if one bypasses this role, speaking purely of the individual, he is only a member of the criminal investigation team, still relatively inexperienced and young.

Most of the leaders present, in terms of age and experience, were his seniors.

Therefore, the slight disrespect or testing revealed occasionally from the other side seemed to be ”not hard to understand” both sentimentally and rationally.

In the field of criminal investigation, it is never merely about deep experience or interpersonal connections to establish oneself.

Frontline investigations directly face bizarre crimes and complex human nature, where what matters most is genuine skills, real professional standards, and the ability to withstand pressure and navigate the fog at critical moments.

Jiang An paused briefly, tidied up the complex thoughts in his mind, then turned his face toward Captain Zhang’s direction, speaking softly, ”Captain Zhang, just now, some seniors had some discussions in the audience; I was sitting a little far, so didn’t hear clearly.”

”This meeting today is intended to be a process of mutual discussion and learning together.”

”As I mentioned at the beginning, what I have presented represents only some of my personal views, which may not be accurate or mature.”

While speaking, he deliberately turned sideways, respectfully looking at Director Hou, expressing a particularly humble attitude through his words.

Director Hou only nodded slightly, yet a faint trace of displeasure passed between his brows.

He clearly understood the current order and atmosphere of the meeting and indeed had some critical views.

This was originally an event specially invited by the provincial office for them to guide and discuss the case, and the people sent by the department were all highly experienced with sharp thinking and keen insight.

Although those discussions below were not loud, they already conveyed a sense of disrespect.

Director Hou knew well that if subordinates acted inappropriately in such settings, leaders should step forward and reconcile, but in fact, it no different than putting hidden contradictions on display, making the situation more awkward instead.
