The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After a brief greeting and opening, Zhang Biao turned sideways and discreetly signaled to the officer beside him, officially beginning the report session.

Immediately, a female police operator with a neat ponytail stepped forward steadily, holding a laser pointer, and clearly stated to all the leaders present: ”Leaders, I will now briefly report the basic situation of this case to all of you.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the lights in the meeting room dimmed in response, and the first page of the report PPT was displayed on the projection screen.

In the center of the page, the words ”Basic Case Situation” were presented in bold; below them, the summary was as follows:

On April 30, a heinous murder case occurred in residence number 2 in West Lake Village, Beijiang Town.

On the day of the incident, the neighbor went to the house to borrow farming tools, discovering the exterior door unlocked and the interior door ajar.

Upon entering, he was shocked to find the couple had been killed, with the female victim suffering a more gruesome fate, her unborn child extruded between her legs.

The neighbor immediately dialed 110 to report the incident. After receiving the report, our office quickly assembled a scene investigation team, including trace examiners, forensic doctors, and police investigators, to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the scene and surrounding area.

Then, the female police officer paused briefly and switched to the next PPT page.

The image showed a general view of the scene: a courtyard enclosed by a red wall, with the gate tightly shut.

She explained in sync, ”According to the informant’s description, the courtyard gate was closed at the time of the incident, while the living room door was ajar.”

”The investigation team promptly performed detailed trace extraction on the door, including fingerprint and blood trace checks, but only a small amount of blood was found on the door frame, with no fingerprints of comparative value discovered.”

She continued clicking the mouse, projecting a photo of the living room scene.

In the image, the two victims lay on the living room floor, surrounded by blood stains, a shocking sight.

”Leaders, this is the core scene of the case—the living room.”

”Both deceased lay here, with multiple visible wounds on their bodies, and the blood stains were widespread.”

”According to the preliminary examination by forensic experts, each person had over fifty sharp instrument wounds.”

”Notably, the umbilical cord of the fetus between the female victim’s legs was still intact and connected to the mother’s body.”

Later, the PPT consistently displayed several close-up photos of the central scene: detailing the wounds on the two victims’ bodies, the spatter patterns of blood, and the condition of the female victim’s lower body—her fetus positioned between her legs, connected through the umbilical cord to the placenta. The image was intensely disturbing and difficult to look at.

From the photo, the fetus’s lips appeared noticeably purple, showing typical signs of suffocation.

Subsequently, the image shifted to the facial features and distribution of bodily damage of the two adult victims.

Preliminary observation revealed that the damage distribution had a certain pattern.

In examining the scene photos, there were clear signs of disorder in the indoor environment.

The room displayed extensive signs of being rummaged through: all drawers were open, the wardrobe doors were ajar, and the contents inside were disturbed into disorder.

The bedding and pillows on the bed were also completely turned over, indicating the suspect might have been searching for something.

After the female officer elaborated on the interior examination details, she focused on the body examination aspect.

She stated, ”On the day of the incident, the city bureau immediately dispatched a team of experienced forensic experts to conduct a systematic and detailed examination of the three victims.”

”Examination results showed the male victim had 54 stab wounds across his body, while the female victim had 44. The wounds were concentrated, some deep enough to reach internal organs, demonstrating extreme cruelty and violence from the perpetrator.”

Simultaneously, the PPT displayed photos of the two victims’ bodies—previously intact skin now covered in dense wounds.

After a brief pause, the female officer continued the report with a calm and clear tone: ”According to the forensic final determination, the cause of death for both adult victims was acute massive hemorrhage due to sharp instrument-induced mechanical injury, with a rapid death process, consistent with homicide characteristics.”

”After the case occurred, our bureau immediately activated the major homicide investigation mechanism, mobilizing elite investigative forces, conducting a carpet search within a five-kilometer radius centered on the scene, and focusing on screening individuals from multiple dimensions such as emotional conflict, economic debt, and personal grudges, striving to miss no suspicion points.”

She paused, her tone slightly heavy: ”However, after multiple consultations and judgments by the task force, no suspicious persons with clear motives or conditions for committing the crime have been identified to date.”

”Additionally, we have thoroughly extracted and analyzed the two victims’ mobile communication records, but no abnormal calls or suspicious contacts were detected.”

”Regrettably, the incident location is in an area with weak surveillance coverage, and no direct video footage has been obtained from the surroundings, posing considerable difficulties to the investigation work.”

minutes later, the female officer earnestly concluded facing the audience: ”Leaders, this is the entire report of the basic case situation, scene investigation, body examination, and preliminary investigation work.”

”The case is still under further investigation, and we will continue to expand our ideas and conduct in-depth checks, striving for an early breakthrough.”

After Zhang Biao finished introducing the case, he turned sideways to Director Hou and Jiang An, and said with steady words: ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, the above is the basic situation and preliminary analysis of this case.”

”Due to the limitations of the PPT presentation, many details and materials were not comprehensively presented.”

”If you need in-depth information on each segment, you can consult the case materials on the table beside you at any time.”
