The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”But the fact is just the opposite—we observe that this patch remains clearly visible after incision, and the color does not significantly fade due to a change in position.”

”This inversely proves that the color in this area is not due to the post-mortem blood pooling caused by cessation of circulation, but is a hemorrhagic lesion formed during life.”

”Moreover, we can further infer that this bleeding occurred while the victim’s vital signs were still present.”

”Because during the survival period, once blood vessels rupture, the body’s coagulation mechanism immediately kicks in, forming a degree of blood clots.”

”Of course, since the deceased was pregnant, the abdomen was significantly swollen due to pregnancy, and blood vessels in the abdominal wall proliferated and became more densely distributed. When subjected to external pressure, the form of vascular rupture often manifests as widespread and diffuse seepage, rather than massive bleeding due to the rupture of a major blood vessel.”

”Consequently, the manifestation on the surface is not patchy bruising, but these dotted, dark red blurred marks—what we call ’exudative hemorrhagic’ signs.”

Finally, Jiang An concluded, ”Based on the above analysis, I can clearly determine that the sides of the deceased’s abdomen were subjected to continuous or repeated pressure by a blunt object.”

”This pressure not only caused multiple, small focal ruptures and hemorrhages in the blood vessels of the abdominal wall and deep tissues, but more critically, it likely triggered intense uterine contractions that caused a sudden increase in intrauterine pressure, becoming the key reason for the premature expulsion of the fetus.”

”Thus, this hemorrhagic mark is not only evidence of injury during life but also an important physical evidence revealing the process of death and the method of injury.”

Jiang An’s explanation had just been finished, and the entire conference hall fell into silence once more.

The air seemed to momentarily freeze, and everyone’s eyes focused on him, seemingly still digesting the logic and strength inherent in his words.

At that moment, Jiang An slightly turned his body, his gaze directed at Director Hou sitting beside him.

At the instant their eyes met, they both nodded slightly.

It was an unspoken understanding and affirmation.

A barely noticeable smile passed over Director Hou’s face, his eyes revealing undeniable appreciation.

Just then, the few senior officers who questioned earlier visibly lost their stance.

They spontaneously lowered their heads, their gaze falling onto their respective notebooks, a look of embarrassment and self-examination evident in their expressions, as if re-assessing their previous judgment.

Especially Director Lu and Zhang Biao, their faces were unable to maintain composure, the confidence from earlier questioning dissipating without a trace, replaced by silent reflection.

After a brief silence, Zhang Biao spoke up, ”But speaking of which, it seems indeed that we overlooked this crucial detail in our forensic work earlier.”

As he spoke, he slowly swept his gaze over the audience, seeming to search for a particular figure, then raised his voice to inquire, ”Where’s the forensic expert? Is the forensic expert responsible for the autopsy of this case present today?”

”Here, here, I am here.”

A young officer wearing glasses and whose face appeared still raw hurriedly raised his hand, standing up from his seat in the back row.

The focus of all eyes in the conference room instantly concentrated on him.

Zhang Biao looked at him, sternly saying, ”How did you overlook this detail during the autopsy?”

The young forensic expert appeared a bit uneasy, unconsciously scratching the back of his head, his cheeks slightly reddened, and softly said, ”Mr. Jiang, honestly, I’ve not been working for very long, my experience is indeed limited... at the time of the examination, I really didn’t realize that such special marks would be formed on that area due to violent force.”

”I lack proficiency and failed to identify it.”

”Did you understand all the content that Mr. Jiang just explained?”

The young forensic expert quickly nodded, his tone sincerely tinged with admiration, ”Understood, Mr. Jiang’s analysis was very thorough, especially the inference regarding the relationship between post-mortem blood pooling mechanisms and external force, which completely aligns with the forensic pathology logic taught by my teachers, only I hadn’t previously applied it flexibly in practice.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Biao still looked serious, speaking earnestly, ”Since you understood, you must further reflect on your usual learning attitude.”

”After returning, you need to read professional books frequently and ponder over cases repeatedly.”

”In forensic presence, injury inspection, every detail may relate to the direction of the case. You can’t afford to lack strong professional capability.”

After saying this, Zhang Biao turned his head, once again facing Jiang An.

At this moment, his attitude had noticeably softened, ”Mr. Jiang, I indeed feel very happy about your special assistance in the case this time.”

”Not only did you help progress the current case, but you also gave all our case handlers a vividly educative practical lesson.”

”You not only aided in the investigation but also ’shared great knowledge,’ broadening the perspectives of our young forensic experts and reminding us old policemen of the importance of professional knowledge in practical execution, it has truly been beneficial.”
