The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An said softly, ”Welcome back to the team.”

”You were supposed to go back and rest, but didn’t expect you to encounter such a case on the first day of your return.”

Zhang Yean asked in a deep voice, ”What kind of case is it?”

”This case is not simple.”

”Two deceased appeared in the water simultaneously, but from my initial judgment on the scene, the male drowned while alive, and the female was likely thrown into the water postmortem.”

”What’s more notable is that a motorcycle belonging to one of the deceased was also found in the water.”

After a brief pause, Jiang An looked at Zhang Yean: ”The two deceased were a couple.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yean’s brow slightly furrowed.

Although her professional skills were not as rich as Jiang An’s, she intuitively sensed unusual circumstances in the case from just these few words.

Especially in a similar environment of time and space, the stark contrast in their causes of death was particularly striking.

One drowned while alive, the other entered the water postmortem, which itself posed a strong contradiction.

Logically, the simultaneous deceased in the same event should have similar mechanisms of death.

But the current situation clearly defied this logic.

After pondering for a moment, Zhang Yean asked, ”The ends of the road by the river... shouldn’t have surveillance cameras, right?”

Jiang An nodded, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness: ”Indeed, there aren’t any.”

”If there were cameras, things would be much simpler.”

”Just investigating the people and vehicles entering the area during specific time periods, clues would naturally emerge.”

He remained silent for a while before resolutely saying, ”But it’s okay, we’ll initiate the investigation according to homicide standards.”

”As long as there are suspicious elements, we absolutely cannot let them go.”

”We must get to the bottom of this case.”

Then, the corners of Jiang An’s mouth twitched: ”You’ve traveled a long way, you should have been allowed to rest for a few days.”

”Unfortunately, the timing isn’t ideal, we have to postpone your vacation.”

Zhang Yean smiled, her demeanor became much more relaxed: ”Mr. Jiang, as long as you say that.”

”Someday I’ll take all the accumulated leave together, maybe even go on a long trip.”

Jiang An also laughed heartily: ”Of course, work must be done carefully, cases must be solved, and vacations must be taken.”

”Balance is the key to longevity.”

Soon, the two walked towards the dissection room while chatting.

At this time, the shadowless lamp in the dissection room had already been turned on, and the two bodies lay quietly on the stainless steel autopsy table.

Two forensic assistants had long been dressed in protective clothing and gloves, various dissection instruments arranged neatly to the side, the entire space pervaded by a solemn and stern atmosphere.

Zhang Yean walked in steadily, her gaze landed on the unfamiliar young faces, and she asked curiously: ”Mr. Jiang, who are these?”

Jiang An patted his forehead, showing a suddenly realized expression, and laughed: ”Oh, look at my memory, I forgot to introduce you.”

”These two joined us just two weeks ago as forensic assistants, they’re top graduates from the nation’s leading medical schools, and their professional skills are outstanding.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yean’s eyes lit up, and a praised smile appeared on her face, saying: ”Wow! That’s great.”

”It seems our Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team’s forensic strength has grown considerably!”

Jiang An continued with detailed introductions: ”This is our bureau’s top technical talent – trace identification expert, Zhang Yean.”

”She just returned from advanced training in the Dragon Country’s capital and has contributed greatly to several major cases, she’s the technical backbone of our team.”

The two young forensic assistants quickly and respectfully greeted: ”Hello, Teacher Zhang! We’ve heard so much about you, please guide us in the future.”

Zhang Yean smiled modestly, her tone gentle: ”It looks like our Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team’s forensic team is indeed getting stronger.”

He turned to the newcomers and continued: ”Following Mr. Jiang’s lead, your starting point is much higher than ours back then.”

”Forensics in our Jiangcheng police system is becoming more important, your specialized knowledge and skills will certainly be greatly utilized in the future.”

Upon hearing this, the faces of the two young assistants immediately showed bright excitement, their eyes filled with anticipation and hope for the future.

Jiang An smiled, his tone took on a serious yet encouraging tone: ”The future is indeed bright, but this path is not easy.”

”Prepare yourselves mentally, especially facing highly decomposed bodies in summer, giant phenomenon, or traveling to challenging wilderness scenes, they all test professional capability and mental resilience.”

”Having just joined, you haven’t dealt much with malicious scenes yet, and in the future, you will have more chances to face various challenges.”

”Though these words might sound weighty, as your team leader, I must preemptively prepare you.”

One assistant seriously replied: ”Mr. Jiang, rest assured, we’re not afraid of hardships!”

”I’ve encountered quite a few bodies retrieved from the water during my internship, many presented giant phenomenon, looking truly horrifying.”

”Though I was nervous then, I insisted on completing the task.”

”When we face similar scenes again, we will surely be competent.”

Jiang An nodded satisfactorily, saying: ”Great! With such determination and readiness, I’m assured.”

”Welcome to officially join the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team family.”

Seeing the young, spirited faces in front of him, Jiang An felt a surge of comfort within.

He nodded slightly, his tone steady and warm, ”From today onward, you will take over the main operations of the corpse examinations.”

”I’m a bit relieved, Mr. Wu had already systematically explained the basic procedures and operations of forensic inspection.”

”Follow his taught steps steadily.”

”I’ll always be watching nearby, and if anything uncertain comes up, I’ll remind you immediately.”

Then, Jiang An paused slightly, turned his head to look at Zhang Yean beside him, and continued: ”Additionally, forensic examination and trace photography must proceed simultaneously.”

”You should notify Sister Zhang Yean to photograph and fix anytime you discover something during your operations – especially signs or characteristics that may quickly vanish.”

During his speech, Jiang An specially emphasized: ”This point is extremely important.”

”The essence of scene investigation and forensic examination is scientifically and comprehensively fixing evidence.”

”If the evidence is not recorded timely, revisiting or supplementing the investigation later will lose the most crucial objective basis. Understand?”

”Understand, Mr. Jiang, we’ll certainly pay attention!”

The two young forensic assistants replied in unison.

Their faces bore eager excitement, their eyes sparkled with expectation and focus for the upcoming work.

Jiang An nodded, his expression gradually grew solemn.

He scanned the male body on the table, his voice deep yet clear:

”Now, we’ll start with this male body.”

”I want to particularly emphasize that this body is very crucial.”

”Based on my initial judgment on the scene, he was very likely thrown into the water postmortem.”

”So, besides the usual water body examination items, we need to pay attention to several aspects.”

”Firstly, the true cause of death, such as poisoning or mechanical asphyxiation.”

”Secondly, despite no obvious external injuries on the body, we still cannot completely rule out the possibility of mechanical injury – particularly pay attention to hidden injuries on critical parts like the skull, chest, and abdomen.”

After pausing, Jiang An looked at the newcomers, his tone more serious: ”The resolution of such cases often depends on whether we can find unusual traces from seemingly ordinary bodies.”

”Therefore, when starting the examination later, be sure to carefully check for skull fractures, intracranial bleeding, ruptures of the heart and surrounding major blood vessels... these will be the key to determining the cause and process of death.”

The two young forensics listened attentively, nodding solemnly: ”Yes, Mr. Jiang, we have noted it.”

”Good!” Jiang An took one last glance at the body, ”Now—let’s begin.”
