The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Upon hearing this, Mr. Li, the director of the academic affairs office, who had been sitting quietly on the side, leaned forward and solemnly picked up the conversation.

”If there’s anything you need to know, please go ahead and ask, officers. Our school will fully cooperate.”

His tone was calm and powerful, as if he had already weighed his stance repeatedly in his mind.

”Since the incident occurred and involves our student, the school has the obligation to assist the police in uncovering the truth as soon as possible, both from an educational responsibility and a humanitarian perspective.”

”Although the place where the body was found is not on campus, Zhang Qian is, after all, a student of our school. We absolutely will not shirk our responsibility—the school is always the student’s support.”

Mr. Li’s words sounded righteous and comprehensive, but across from him, Li Jia kept her head down, her hands tightly clasped, her fingertips slightly pale from the pressure.

She wanted to speak several times but stopped, finally just raising her eyes slightly to glance at Mr. Li briefly, her lips trembling slightly, but she still said nothing.

At this moment, detective Qin Feng took a step forward.

”Mr. Li, our visit this time is to hope we can quickly lock onto critical leads and improve the efficiency of the investigation.”

”If the school cannot provide real and effective information, then we will have to take further measures.”

He paused slightly, his gaze sweeping over everyone present like a torch, ”Including but not limited to: a comprehensive inquiry of Zhang Qian’s classmates and grade, temporarily suspending classes to facilitate a thorough investigation, and even expanding the investigation to include the entire staff.”

”Currently, the suspect is not clear, either inside or outside the school. Before solving the case, we won’t overlook any possibilities.”

Before he finished speaking, Mr. Li hurriedly interrupted, his voice not loud, but carrying a faint urgency and earnestness.

”No, no, Officer Qin, since it’s like this... then we must reflect truthfully, absolutely not conceal anything.”

His tone became tense, a slight bead of sweat appearing on his forehead, ”If classes really have to be stopped for investigation, the whole teaching order would be disrupted, and the psychological impact on students would be huge, which is a responsibility none of us can bear...”

Under Mr. Li’s barely noticeable nod, everyone’s tense shoulders finally relaxed a bit, as if a certain burden had been lifted.

Mr. Li took a deep breath and said in a low voice, ”Zhang Qian... she was originally an excellent student, but in the past six months, her condition has clearly declined, dropping from the top ten in her class to the middle and lower tiers.”

”We talked to her several times, and at first, she always said it was just a bad state. Until last month, she vaguely revealed that she had met a young man online about half a year ago who had been working for several years.”

His voice got lower as he continued, as if each word required great determination.

”It was because of this relationship that she completely changed, her mind entirely diverted from her studies.”

”I also advised her that at this stage, she must prioritize her studies and cut off this unhealthy contact... She later did indeed try to sever ties with him.”

”And then what happened?”

Qin Feng leaned forward slightly, his tone concerned, continuing to ask.

Mr. Li sighed softly, his gaze drifting distant as if recalling those vague and heavy memories: ”Afterward, I observed her for a while and found that her learning state indeed gradually stabilized. In class, she was more focused, and she could complete her assignments on time, so I didn’t delve further into the matter.”

”Until the last monthly exam, she even got into the top 20 for the grade—this result was really quite good, so I gradually felt relieved, thinking she might have truly moved on from that rather immature relationship.”

Wan and Qin Feng exchanged a glance, each discerning the thoughts and seriousness in the other’s eyes.

After a moment of silence, Wan asked, ”Mr. Li, do you know what her online friend does?”

”Did Zhang Qian ever mention any specific details about him to you?”

”She did mention a few things,”

Mr. Li adjusted his glasses, recalling as he spoke, ”She said he worked at a nearby electronics factory, the name... should be Wu Guang.”

”Because during that time she would occasionally confide in me, she would talk about it here and there.”

”This Wu Guang seemed to be much older than her and would occasionally send small gifts to the school, like snacks or small accessories. When Zhang Qian received them, her emotions were quite complicated, somewhat happy yet seemingly a bit apprehensive.”

Wan quickly jotted down the name ”Wu Guang” in his notebook and continued to ask, ”Apart from Wu Guang, did she mention any other online friends she was in frequent contact with?”

Mr. Li pondered for a moment, then shook his head and said, ”As far as I know, no.”

”Wu Guang is the only online friend she ever mentioned?”

”Zhang Qian was usually quite quiet at school, and I haven’t heard of her being particularly close to any male classmates.”

”I’ve repeatedly emphasized to the class that they should focus on their studies and not let emotional issues distract them at this stage.”

”Understood, thank you, Mr. Li.”

Wan closed his notebook, asked Qin Feng for a few more details, and then they both got up to leave.

The two walked out of the office, one after the other, the door gently closing behind them, leaving the room in heavy silence.

Leaving the school gate, they returned to the slightly old police car, one after the other.

Wan skillfully pulled over the seatbelt and buckled it, turning to Qin Feng, ”Let’s go straight to Xinjia Electronics Factory and meet this Wu Guang.”

Qin Feng turned the key, the engine starting with a low rumble.

He gripped the steering wheel, eyes fixed ahead, his tone heavy as he responded, ”If Wu Guang is indeed her so-called ’mysterious boyfriend,’ then many of the case’s doubts might be resolved.”
