The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Understood!”

The two responded in unison and quickly left.

Then, he turned his head to look at the forensic assistant next to him, and said steadily, ”These two bodies are both from the water. From the preliminary observation, the situation is relatively simple, with not too many complex damage marks.”

”Last time, Mr. Wu already provided you with systematic training and practical guidance. Do you feel confident to independently complete the autopsy work this time?”

The two assistants exchanged a glance, with a somewhat bitter smile on their faces.

One of them hesitated for a moment and replied softly, ”Mr. Jiang, we indeed have the intention and want to give it a try, but this time it involves a homicide, and the responsibility is significant... Can we still ask Mr. Wu to come over for guidance? We would feel more at ease.”

Jiang An nodded, with a gentle yet solemn tone, ”I understand.”

”At the moment, my hands are full, I need to coordinate the entire situation, so I can’t leave.”

”In that case, I’ll invite Mr. Wu to assist you.”

”Make sure to seize this opportunity to learn seriously and grow quickly, as you might have to face similar scenarios on your own in the future.”

”Yes, yes, thank you, Mr. Jiang!”

The two responded promptly, visibly relieved.

Just then, Li Dong walked briskly forward with a serious expression and asked, ”Mr. Jiang, this case is getting more complex and impactful. What specific work can our station undertake?”

Jiang An glanced around and, after a brief thought, said, ”Focus on checking the last time and place where the dead were seen and delve into their marital relationship—whether they frequently argued, had intense family conflicts, or exhibited unusual behavior recently.”

Li Dong showed a hint of surprise upon hearing this and inquired, ”Do you mean this case might be caused by internal family conflict?”

”We can’t rule out this possibility yet.”

Jiang An spoke gravely, ”I’ve been pondering, why did both fall into the water simultaneously, yet one shows very clear signs of drowning while the other barely exhibits typical drowning characteristics?”

”That is indeed unusual.”

Captain Huang speculated, ”Speaking of which, if the wife murdered her husband, why did she end up dead in the river herself?”

”Could it be a case of dying for love? Like one party first kills the other, then commits suicide by jumping into the river?”

Li Dong couldn’t help but chuckle at this suggestion.

”The scenario you described is certainly intriguing but mostly appears in thrillers or those Hollywood movies.”

”In reality, every step has to be solid, relying on clues for revelation and evidence for verdicts.”

Jiang An nodded slightly after listening, not responding immediately.

He calmly surveyed the scene as if swiftly organizing various possibilities in his mind.

Subsequently, everyone quickly entered into work mode, methodically commencing the investigation work.

Finally, Jiang An added, ”Immediately seal off the scene, strictly prohibit any unrelated personnel from approaching.”

”Additionally, continue the water salvage work, deploy water pumping equipment if necessary, partially drain the waters for thorough searches, no clues should be missed.”

”Yes, yes, yes!”

Everyone responded in unison, then dispersed to carry out the tasks.’

While the intense site work was progressing, Mr. Li, sitting in his office about to pick up his tea cup, noticed his phone screen suddenly lighting up.

A push notification popped up — ”Floating corpse emerges above water, another hidden below.”

The explosive headline instantly grabbed his attention.

His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly opened the details, mumbling, ”Please don’t let it be Jiangcheng... If these two places both have incidents, troubles could be significant.”

”The two deaths must be reported to the provincial hall immediately; this is nothing small.”

He set down the tea cup and picked up his phone to carefully check the source of the information, still holding onto a glimmer of hope.’

Could it be from another jurisdiction?

But when he opened the news images, he was stunned instantly.

”This...how could this be?!”

Though the pictures were a bit blurred, he could still recognize the busy figures of Jiang An, Wan, and others along the riverbank.

Upon closer inspection, the location mark was clearly written: Jiangcheng City’s East River region.

Mr. Li’s heart rate suddenly accelerated, and cold sweat beaded upon his forehead.

”Things won’t be this frequent, right?”

”The previous case had just concluded, and everyone hadn’t yet recovered. Now, there comes another? And it’s a double homicide...?”

Without any hesitation, he immediately picked up his phone and dialed Jiang An’s number.’

The call was answered quickly.

”Hello, Jiang An?”

”Hello, Mr. Li?”

”Where are you now?”

Mr. Li’s voice was noticeably anxious.

”Oh, Mr. Li, I was about to report to you—we’re handling a case near East River.”

”East River? Are the photos online real?”

”There’s a floating body up top, another hidden below?”

Mr. Li asked with a solemn tone, firing off all the key questions at once.

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded gravely and reported calmly, ”Yes, Mr. Li.”

”Today, around six this morning, the police received a public report about discovering a floating male corpse at East River.”

”When the salvage team arrived to operate on-site, they found another female corpse underwater about three meters away.”

After a brief pause, he continued, ”The deceased have been preliminarily identified as a married couple and we also found a motorcycle suspected to belong to them in the water; we’re verifying the vehicle information.”

After the statement, Mr. Li on the other end of the phone paused silently for a moment, then hesitantly muttered, ”This...”

He then fell into contemplation.’

After a while, Mr. Li gravely spoke, ”On the surface, this seems like a straightforward drowning event, but I have a faint sense of unease...”

He immediately followed up, ”Did the forensic preliminary judgment conclude both deceased drowned?”

Jiang An pondered for a moment and cautiously replied, ”According to preliminary examination on-site and the forensic’s initial judgment, the female deceased shows characteristics of drowning with typical physical manifestations.”

”But the male deceased...”

His tone became serious, ”There are multiple doubts; I strongly suspect he did not die from drowning, but was deliberately thrown into the water after death.”

”Not drowning? Thrown into the water? Is that possible?”

Mr. Li’s tone suddenly became tense.’

”Such a possibility exists.”

Jiang An affirmed, ”We are conducting further investigations.”

”Throwing both bodies into the same water zone, with one alive and one deceased?”

”That’s so illogical!”

Mr. Li couldn’t help but raise his voice on the other end, ”Such instances are extremely rare; there might be something more complex behind.”

Jiang An responded sternly, ”Indeed!”

”That’s also what puzzles us the most right now.”

”However, please rest assured, Mr. Li, we have launched a comprehensive investigation. Site examination, surrounding surveillance retrieval, autopsy, and social relationship mapping are all proceeding simultaneously, meticulously planned.”

”Good, good, in terms of investigation, you are professionals, naturally I am confident.”

Mr. Li’s tone relaxed somewhat but still revealed a degree of worry.’

”But now, the public opinion online is already fermenting intensively.”

”If this issue escalates to the city, or even the provincial hall, it might be assigned for supervision, possibly with a deadline for resolution.”

”Therefore, I remind you to speed up the progress. If you need resources, report to me immediately without hesitation.”

”Understood, Mr. Li.”

Jiang An replied solemnly.”

After hanging up the phone, a warmth rose within Jiang An’s heart.’

Having fought in the workplace for many years, he deeply understood how precious it is to encounter a leader who acts like a teacher and older brother, besides performance and competence.”

Immediately, Jiang An opened the local news headline app, and indeed the first headline wrote: ”Floating corpse on the water, another hidden below!”

”East River shockingly reveals double homicide, police investigating thoroughly...”
