The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Analyzing from an emotional motive, if he has deeply invested in this relationship, even exhibiting some kind of obsession or extreme tendency, then his likelihood of being involved in the case increases significantly—it’s possible he might be the main perpetrator.”

minutes later, the police car slowly came to a stop outside the gate of Xinjia Electronics Factory.

The factory entrance was tightly shut, indicating it was still work hours.

Inside the guardhouse, an elderly man around sixty was staring at his phone screen with his head down, occasionally swiping his finger, completely immersed in the world of short videos.

Even though he heard the car, he lazily lifted his eyelid, quickly returning to the lively screen between his fingers.

Qin Feng honked the horn twice, the crisp sound echoing in the emptiness before the factory, but the gatekeeper seemed oblivious, showing no reaction.

He couldn’t help but smile wryly, ”Even the police car’s horn is useless now?”

Wan chuckled as he reached out to open the armrest compartment.

From inside, he took out a pack of unopened cigarettes.

”It’s not just the horn that’s ineffective—sometimes even flashing credentials and discussing rules may not work.”

”Then what works?”

Qin Feng raised his eyebrow and asked.

”This,” Wan raised the pack of cigarettes in his hand, a helpless smirk tugging at his lips, ”The old trick often works best.”

Qin Feng glanced at it, instantly understanding and feeling a bit speechless, ”Seriously? Even in this day and age, solving cases still relies on this?”

Wan said no more, casually placed the cigarettes in his jacket pocket, and stepped out of the car.

He turned back and smiled at Qin Feng, ”You’ll understand after you’ve visited a few more places and hit a few more snags—this thing, sometimes, is more effective than any official status.”

He walked with steady steps, calm and composed, towards the guardhouse.

The guard was still glued to his phone screen, smiling broadly, completely unaware someone was approaching.

Wan approached, leisurely taking out the pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and gracefully handed it over.

”Sir, what are you watching that’s so captivating?”

The old man lifted his eyelids slightly, his gaze briefly passing over the pack of cigarettes and pausing for a moment before slowly shifting away, muttering an ”uh-huh,” his eyes still glued to the screen.

He then asked, ”What’s up? Need something?”

”We’re from the police station, here to investigate a case, need to go in and find someone. Could you open the gate for us?”

As he spoke, Wan again extended the cigarettes forward, his demeanor naturally like greeting an old acquaintance.

This time, the old man finally raised his head.

He took the cigarettes, his wrinkles gradually eased, and his previously indifferent expression immediately became warm.

He hastily put down his phone, laughing as he said, ”Oh my, it’s the police officers!”

”I’m so sorry, this video was too fascinating, didn’t notice for a moment.”

”Alright, alright, you can go in, go in!”

Wan followed up with a question, ”Could you tell us, generally where are the leadership offices located in the factory?”

”Just that red building, Building No. 3! That’s where the leaders work!”

The old man spoke enthusiastically while pointing passionately to the right front.

”Thanks a lot.”

Wan nodded with a smile, turned around swiftly and returned to the car.

The entire process took less than one minute.

Seated in the driver’s seat all along, Qin Feng gave Wan a glance, shaking his head involuntarily.

”I’m really impressed, the way things are now... A pack of cigarettes can be traded for a pass—it’s like we’re going backwards.”

Wan got in the car, let out a light laugh.

”Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”

”A twenty-something yuan pack of cigarettes doesn’t mean much to us, but to some people, it’s a genuine gesture, a benefit.”

As they were talking, the factory’s heavy sliding iron gate slowly opened to either side.

Qin Feng restarted the engine, drove into the factory area, and soon found Building No. 3 following the old man’s directions.

They had just gotten out of the car and walked up the steps to find the entrance was a clean automatic glass door.

As they approached, the door slid silently open to either side.

Stepping into the lobby on the first floor, a prominent sign met their gaze, clearly listing the names of various departments—General Manager’s Office, Finance Department, Administration Office...

Although some signs were slightly old and vague, the layout was clear.

Wan looked up and said, ”Personnel Department is on the fifth floor, let’s head straight up.”

They quickly took the elevator to the fifth floor, the elevator door opened facing directly towards Office 503, the door was ajar.

Wan stepped forward and knocked three times lightly, a gentle ”Come in” was heard from inside.

Entering the room, a middle-aged man wearing glasses and a clean shirt was sitting behind the desk.

”May I ask who you are?”

Before he finished speaking, Qin Feng had already stepped forward promptly, displaying his police badge with a smooth motion.

”Hello, we are from the City Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Unit, currently investigating a case, and need your unit’s assistance with related work.”

The man, upon hearing this, twitched his mouth slightly imperceptibly.

He quickly stood up from behind the desk, while motioning them to sit on the sofa in the reception area, and spoke in a slightly awkward tone, ”Officers... May I ask what kind of case? Our unit has always operated by the rules, nothing has ever gone wrong...”

After they sat down, Qin Feng explained unhurriedly, ”Please don’t be nervous; the case itself did not occur within your unit, so you need not worry.”

The man visibly exhaled a breath of relief, his facial expression relaxed considerably, nodding repeatedly, ”I told you, our workshops always follow regulations in production, security management is also strict, shouldn’t be any issues...”

He paused slightly, then tentatively asked, ”So may I ask... What specific situation are you looking to understand today?”
