The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

What makes it even more heart-wrenching is that, after reviewing several subsequent checkpoint monitors, the helmeted man remained in sight, like an inescapable shadow.

”Not good! Wu Guang is definitely being targeted!”

Wan slammed the table abruptly, his voice tinged with urgency, ”Qin Feng, quickly! Where was Wu Guang last seen on the surveillance? We need to go there now!”

Qin Feng’s fingers sped across the keyboard, the images on the screen rapidly changing, eventually settling on a blurry surveillance image.

He pointed to the screen, his tone grave, ”Wu Guang was last seen at the checkpoint on the welcoming avenue at the city outskirts, from the route, it seems he’s heading back to Dongxi Village—his hometown.”

”Let’s go!”

Before Wan’s voice had finished, he had already grabbed the police jacket from the chairback and threw it on.

Qin Feng also immediately stood up, retrieved six guns from the equipment cabinet, and distributed them to the six colleagues who quickly arrived.

”Carry all your gear, load your bullets, stay safe!”

Qin Feng instructed as he distributed the guns.

Two minutes later, two police cars lit their lights, sounded their sirens, and dashed out of the doors of Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau, leaving two shallow marks on the ground.

As soon as the car exited the bureau courtyard, Wan immediately pulled out his cellphone to call Jiang An.

The moment the call connected, his voice was still panting with urgency, ”Mr. Jiang, we have an emergency! We checked the surveillance as per your instructions, Wu Guang was last seen at the checkpoint on the welcoming avenue at the city outskirts, we’re heading there now.

”More crucially, a man wearing a black helmet, riding a motorcycle, has been following him ever since he left the interrogation room. He appeared on multiple surveillance checkpoints!”

On the other end of the call, Jiang An, who had been sorting through case files, felt his heart sink and accelerate, the pen in his hand falling onto the table with a ”bang.”

With over twenty years in criminal investigation, he was used to letting ”the dead speak” through site inspections, but this time, he not only needs to solve the case but also race against death—Wu Guang’s life might be counting down.

He took a deep breath, striving to keep his voice calm.

”Accelerate your speed, ensure safety, take your guns, prioritize Wu Guang’s safety first, then consider controlling the suspect!”

”Remember, you must bring him back safely!”

”Yes! We’ll complete the mission!”

Wan hung up and immediately shouted to the colleague at the driver’s seat.

”Faster! Try to catch up before Wu Guang gets home!”

In just 30 minutes, they had raced to the entrance where the surveillance camera was located, but the scene before them made them instantly stop in their tracks—this two-lane intersection ended abruptly with two forks.

While the two bent down to examine the map, attempting to discern the route, Wan suddenly stood up, eyes scanning sharply over the two forks, spoke gravely to Qin Feng: Qin Feng, let’s each take one road, you go left, I go right, conduct the investigation separately. Once you find any clues, immediately contact me via walkie-talkie, remember not to act alone!”

As the sound of two engines roared, the cars sped like arrows released from a bow, each heading down one of the forks, disappearing into the distance in a flash.

minutes later, Wan was driving along the right fork when he suddenly noticed a shared electric bike fallen by the roadside.

It was precisely the one Wu Guang was riding on the surveillance video!

He immediately parked the car and carefully inspected, finding the right side mirror of the electric bike had broken off, the casing under the seat was clearly dented, several shattered plastic pieces scattered on the ground, beside which, in the soil, a distinct scrape extended from where the electric bike had fallen to a distance, apparently left by the vehicle sliding post-collision.

”Wan, this bike seems like it was hit, did a traffic accident occur?”

The young officer Li who tagged along came over, flashlight beam moving between the electric bike and the ground, his tone puzzled.

Wan didn’t answer immediately, instead, he touched the edges of the dent with his fingertip and felt a warm sensation.

”Hmm, it should have been a traffic accident and not too long ago.”

He stood up, gaze following the direction of the scrape.

At that moment, a spot of dark red caught his eye.

Wan immediately bent down, parted the ground’s weeds, to find beside the fallen electric bike, in the soil, several drops of fresh bloodstains, not yet fully coagulated.

”These bloodstains are fresh, just left not long ago.”

Wan’s brows furrowed tightly, a trace of suspicion surfacing in his heart, ”If the suspect’s target is Wu Guang, normally they should directly control him, why would a traffic accident occur? Could it be...”

Suddenly, a terrible thought emerged in his mind.

Could this traffic accident have been deliberately manufactured by the suspect?

Beside him, Li seemed to have thought of something too and quickly added, ”Wan, when I reviewed the surveillance video, I noticed Wu Guang was wearing a helmet while riding. Even if he was hit, as long as the helmet didn’t come off, it generally wouldn’t be life-threatening; the suspect couldn’t have intended to resolve him through a mere accident!”

”He wouldn’t easily die, but I thought of another possibility.”

Wan slightly raised his head, squinted, gaze directed toward the depth of the fork, voice low and firm, ”I think it’s possible the suspect deliberately caused the traffic accident, then used ’medical transport’ as an excuse to take Wu Guang somewhere.”
